Hard to believe that no one mentions that the music is by Nelson Riddle, Frank Sinatra's long time arranger. Clever use of the percussion instruments to underscore the graphics and continued use of the motif from the song "Ocean's 11."
Joey Bishop is often thought of as the Clan's also-ran. Here he is only eighth-billed (#3 below the title), yet he is the first to appear, leading Tamiroff to Danny. Bishop also gets his name on the Sands sign at the end alongside the Big Four ratpackers.
I don't like the film but this title sequence is amazing in it correct form. As I have stated above the sound is ahead of the picture THATS why the rhythm is all wrong.
That’s how the Holy Ghost works yah lousy good for nothin’s! (Why do I even keep you around Brian...ya reckless teen! Kate marrying Paddy. Aye, it dooonright bonkers ain’t it. (Thanks Iannucci!)
It has some mistakes at the counting numbers at the beginning, you can see the last stripe half coloured and the layer of the old number still underneath it. But it's okay, I bet high quality at the time wasn't too strict and needed as now... :)
So economic, so cool! so brilliant ! I'd say he was of his time. Just look at how much other brilliant stuff came out of the sixties .... No , not everything of course ... Start with Nat King Cole ...
Sorry, don't like this one. There's no rhythm to how anything appears on the screen. There's no framing, anticipation, or emphasis happening...not too strangely like the film it preceeds.
Always enjoy a Saul Bass fix. ❤️
Saul Bass's title sequences, ahh be still my heart
