    50:15 it's also the name of the electric attack in pokemon that was translated as "thunder" in english...so any time you see someone complain that "thunder" should only be the SOUND that lightning makes, it's just a mistranslation

    Adding this to my wishlist after I’m done with Ni No Kuni. It’s a wonderful feeling when you notice those small improvements overtime. I’m even having less trouble with Shizuku now than when I started!

      I'm going through Ni No Kuni now as well! The trailer video makes it look like the game is really long.. also playing Icey recommended by him. I don't think I'll play Dragonquest though, not a huge RPG fan but I enjoy the Ghibli art style in Ni No Kuni.

    Important: if you're buying this on steam, you need a mod to run it in Japanese, and it supports furigana.

    I started doing this myself using the Switch screen-cap feature! There's so much language available to look at in the beginning of the game. I screen capped a couple of conversations on the way to the first cave, and a couple of the signs and tutorials along the way for language practice. For a fantasy game, this is incredibly approachable, and one of the games I got from Japan that I've spent the most time playing with so far. I also picked up Yokai Watch 4 and Metroid Dread.

    i dont know if it was out by the time this video was made, but you can use agent to extract the game dialogue and use yomichan on it. it's less hassle than using ocr so between that and the vocabulary ive learned these months its much easier to me than it was at the beginning of the year😊

    You do great work, and I am very thankful for these videos. In my situation (hanging out with japanese friends in vrchat, and well gaming) I learn significantly more useful japanese from one video of yours than a dozen audio lessons from japanese pod. The other one isn't bad, but it's more like if you're going to travel there for a while and maybe work there kind of language. That being said I do have one suggestion, maybe have the music really low. Everything else was fine, but it was pretty hard to hear them speak through the music.

    For most US players I'd recommend the PC version over at least the US Switch version. You are not able to switch between Japanese and English text on the Switch version and would need to buy the JP version.
    While the US PC version is the same, there is at least the mod that seems to be pretty solid and was originally intended for JP users who purchased the US version on accident.

    I've noticed that certain words that are mainly used in hiragana nowadays you often see them in Kanji in light novels or even older video games. Fumoto for example I learnt from "Boku no Natsuyasumi" as I am pretty sure it was written in Kanji there.

    • @sweetiepeetie
      @sweetiepeetie Рік тому

      You can see in the dictionary sometimes that words are ranked as N5 or N4 in hiragana and the same word using Kanji is rank N2 or N1. So the hiragana version is for the younger Japanese audience I take it.

      @@sweetiepeetie I think you're right. Another interesting situation happens in words like 歳 (age), which is N1
      Since the kanji is difficult to write but the word is extremely common, kids first learn 才 for age in elementary school. Even though 才 is usually used to signify "genius" or "talent"

    So is the only way to play this game with Japanese text to buy a Japanese copy or buy it from the Japanese eshop? I thought it's enough either to set the Switch to Japanese or there is an option in-game to change it to Japanese. But I tried both and it's still in English. I was only able to switch the audio to Japanese but it would be better if the text would be in Japanese too. If I'm right with my assumption, then I guess visual novels are the only games we can actually play with Japanese text without using the Japanese eshop or buying physical games from Japan. I would like to skip those :/
