And I can’t imagine the grin he must of had on his face as he had the best seat to see it all unfold from his third place position on the track. Then it happened...and it was weird. As good as I felt, and was floating around, I knew when I saw the wreck that there was something different about that wreck. I still don’t know why, it was a really tame looking wreck. Especially considering what most wrecks look like at Daytona. This was tame in comparison. Daytona was sort of a microcosm of Dale's career. He won more races there than anyone (in spite of needing 20 years to win the 500). Obviously it's a terrible tragedy that we lost him, but if it was going to happen, it was fitting in a way that it would happen at Daytona.
9:15 - And another master proving who was the best ever, at his own vocation. Mike Joy has always seemed...propagandist...compared to the calm assurance of the legendary Ken Squire. I wish he could've been the one to call Earnhardt's winning race.

Hate to tell ya young man, and it's not your fault, as most of us longtime hardcore NASCAR fans truly feel sorry for the younger generations today..........because we all QUIT watching & supporting NASCAR. Why? Because NASCAR shit on their biggest longtime fans when they made the entire sport into something that isn't even recognizable anymore. And those corrupt bastards in control now did it in every way imaginable. They have literally made it "the NFL or NBA on wheels"..........It's a total disgrace. They even REMOVED many of the grandstands due to us hardcore fans no longer attending and to make the place still look like "a packed house". Even the ratings & viewership on TV has fallen through the floor. This is what happens when their corrupt GREED allows a bunch of rich liberal freaks to sponsor & take over the sport. Even many of the better senior drivers who still had quite a few years of racing left walked away.
why is it so hard to hear dale, is it because of the noise of the car? I noticed It's a lot easier to hear the crew chief and the spotter but I can barely make out what dale is saying during the race. I'm assuming it's the noise from the car.
@benny pitt You're an idiot. Dale had the respect of every driver and crewmen at the track, That's why they are all lined up on pit road to high five him after he won the race. Have you ever seen that happen with any other driver? It sounds like your father knew what it was all about. You being a Bill Elliott fan I can see why you don't get it. You couldn't have been much of an Elliott fan either, you spelled Bills last name wrong.
This sis the racing we need if they want to bring fans back and get some new younger 1’s. It’s so safe now that this plate racing should be back %💯. This is the best. When there’s a 1000 moves and everyone has a chance as long as they make the right moves.
Or for more detail. The pushrod did Fail or bend but they popped a new one in and it fixed it. But Dale and the team lost confidence in the engine just because they didn’t trust it after the rod was bent. For all they knew it could be a real issue and happen during the race. So they swapped it. - but in racing I’ve faked engine troubles several times so I could put my cheated up parts in because the tech is a lot more relaxed the second time around sometimes they wouldn’t even send someone over to check out the engine after we “Fixed” the issue. Lol we use to change engines multiple times because they couldn’t withstand the abuse. Like today it’s 75yrs of engine knowledge to get a reliable engine. But I really miss the 90s when we had to take care of the car a lot more.
To this day 21 years later, this makes me so happy. On one hand I am sad that we lost Dale, but I’m also glad he never had to make the decision to go on living without racing.

Those cars were so sharp, and man they were fast! Back when the racing was awesome, the broadcasts were epic, and the field was packed with talent. My favorite era !
I you apply the what if, he would have won so many 500's. Like an unbreakable amount! Lug nut, tire going down, seagull hitting a grill and so on. This man is the greatest to ever do it.
Back when Nascar was entertaining. Sadly, I watch no more. :-(
THERE WILL NEVER BE RACING LIKE THIS AGAIN........NASCAR IS DEAD
what would you suggest
Very, Very cool!! Would love to hear the 2000 Talladega race!! I heard it live , but would love to re-live.... Thanks for sharing!!
I had Kielbasa and fried potatoes that day.
Dale Earnhardt the Legend! One of the greatest ambassadors of NASCAR!
I thank you soooo much for upload this!! Saw it live on tv and after all those years and many, many times watching it, must i say:"just can speak for myself, but nothing else can push my emotions around like this"!! THANK YOU SO MUCH, GOD BLESS D E Sr. AND D E Jr to
my hero... nascar has never been the same for me since. of course dale jr is my driver and i hope for him he earns a championship for him for his own, i beleave if sr was still here he would have achieved 8 or better, and jr would have already have earned his self at least 1
These were the days of true exciting racing..It just isn't the same without #3..Everybody who loved him remembers this..
For me the #3 car is and always will be the best looking stock car that ever raced. Earnhardt is and always be my favorite driver. I moved to Jr after his passing, but still miss seeing the the Dale #3 out on the track. RIP
Indy Custom Made I agree.
That #3 Was badass not so much now
When dale Earnhardt died nascar died it's a joke now had he lived there wouldn't be the stages and over time he would say this is racing not foot ball and basketball
Yeah I mean there's nothing like seeing that Black #3 car.
Buddy Baker, Mike Joy and Ned Jarrett made a great team.
Some of my favorite announcers/commentators.
Really enjoyed Buddy Baker and Dr. Jerry Punch.
Dang it, I missed the good years, it’s ok cause I can rewind, and relive it. Dale! And what about Joy, and even Gordon, still going, even in these times!
I was there that day in the infield
I'm glad to say that I was working there then as part of the security/safety teams.
Wow Buddy Baker loves to hear himself talk 😆
It is so sad to see how happy he was to win this race and then to know that years later the same track would ultimately take his life.nascar fans, family, friends miss you dale! You are the best there is,the best there was and the best there ever will be.
Daytona was sort of a microcosm of Dale's career. He won more races there than anyone (in spite of needing 20 years to win the 500). Obviously it's a terrible tragedy that we lost him, but if it was going to happen, it was fitting in a way that it would happen at Daytona.
The CBS statistic at 5:38 is/was outright wrong. "Best Finish: 4th - 4-Times"??? 2nd place 1984, 1993, 1995.
VampireYoshi
Back when the Daytona 500 was raced in total daylight, as it should be! I fucking hate FOX SPORTS with their 2 hour pre-race bullshit.
9:15 - And another master proving who was the best ever, at his own vocation. Mike Joy has always seemed...propagandist...compared to the calm assurance of the legendary Ken Squire. I wish he could've been the one to call Earnhardt's winning race.
NASCAR On Fox Team 2020
Booth: Mike Joy, Jeff Gordon, Larry Mac, William Grantham.
In The Pits: Jamie Little, Matt Yocum, Regan Smith, Vince Welch.
Studio: Michael Waltrip, Jeff Hammond, Tony Stewart, Shannon Spake, Ricky Craven, Ricky Rudd, Rusty Wallace.
William Grantham rusty is good. I miss him and the team they had like 12 years ago that called the bush races on espn.
Tony Stewart is he already out of prison for murdering Kevin Ward?
Who's Ready 2019 Daytona 500 Next Year February?
I AM READY
Why can't NASCAR have this vibe today? They made NASCAR unnatural with artificial stages and a horrible points system. KEEP IT SIMPLE NASCAR!!
58:35 I remember this all so well, we waited forever for this one
Will always be THE MAN
Wish we could’ve heard Captain Jack tell Sunday Money to snag the big one
If only Teresa were not in this. Her face right in there. Dale sr married the wrong woman. Wish Brenda and he had stayed together.
The GREATEST driver of all time. He was the man.
Way to go DALE #3 🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁RIP 🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁
The only driver still driving in this bunch, is Jeff Gordon. Two are dead, many are seriously injured for life, including brain damage, rough sport!
Who's the other one
I mean't who was the other driver dead in this bunch. I wasn't even talking about part time drivers like Mike Wallace
+craig christon Who's seriously injured? Who's got brain damage?
+craig christon Too bad one of the dead is Dale Earnhardt
+Jeff Schmeier Jerry Nadeau, Steve Park, Ernie Irvan, Ricky Craven
I was 18 and sat near the start finish line that race.
Where was the part where he asked Richard if he could spin in the grass
I so miss Buddy Bakers laugh
Cars sounded so awesome. Man please please bring me back to these days,
Kudos to Larry mac. Perfect set up on the 3 car
VERY COOL!! 🏁👍🏁👍
why is it so hard to hear dale, is it because of the noise of the car? I noticed It's a lot easier to hear the crew chief and the spotter but I can barely make out what dale is saying during the race. I'm assuming it's the noise from the car.
I miss my childhood
WOW 3 grandstands all packed...hey day
Man, I will always miss this guy he was my idol growing up. A true legend of NASCAR.
Still miss you Dale !! ☹️
This sis the racing we need if they want to bring fans back and get some new younger 1’s.
It’s so safe now that this plate racing should be back %💯.
This is the best.
When there’s a 1000 moves and everyone has a chance as long as they make the right moves.
I really dont know what the hell some of you are asking? Do you want 98 Monte Carlos, Ford Taurus, and Pontiacs back to race today?
He didn't need to talk !!!!! His driving done his talking !!!!! He's in his office !!!!!!
He made history in Daytona
whenever anyone askes me who my favorite driver is I tell them Dick Trickle (its really Dale)
Dam!! When racing was good 😅😅😅😅!!!!
Back when the crew chief was right there with the pit crew. Nobody is up above looking down at you work , you were shoulder to shoulder with them.
Mike Joy referencing a Chumba Wumba song... Now I've heard everything.
