A VERY excellent discussion on the new Tangent album!!
What is good about the review crew? You all convince me to explore albums I would have never considered. Why? Your enthusiasm and in depth reviews.
New BCC is so damn good. I need to get that shirt Rick's wearing!
I feel like I did when seeing a “world premier video” on MTV in the 80s!
Great Crew Jamie, need to have them on again. Phil, Brendon and Rick really mesh well together. Like to see Grant enter this mix.
I would have Grant. But he doesn't really listen to much new music.
Phil described the The Tangent album so eloquently that he got me interested in it; will have to give it a spin.
Also, agree with Rick that Collective Soul has a very consistent sound without sounding repetitive. Solid discography that, maybe, doesn't have a masterpiece, yet but no stinkers or awful releases either.
Wonderful looking crew Jamie with Phil and looks like Brendon Snyder and Rick Labonte. Irs hot but will get liquid at show this evening to attend to enjoy music and will replay this later TC will update in comments as may be necessary. Enjoy your evening everyone.
Fantastic to see Grand Slam featured again as Brendon has already featured this on his own channel. But they are fantastic, given the challenges of the past. Saw them support FM the other year and then support Hit the Ground with their own headline tour, with Sons of Liberty supporting. They deserve the recognition and wider support, and the music surely chimes with a lot of us and what our tastes are
This was such a great panel on this one. They worked off of one another so well, the choice of albums was diverse and interesting and the Bon Jovi graphic was really funny - and effective. Top notch stuff! 👏
Three of the channels I watch in one take. Great!
The Bon Jovi review is spot on.
Black Country Communion album, superb, as well as the Tangent which is spinning these days, while reading the Prog magazine.
It's not an album, but I just saw Ghost's new concert film Rite Here Rite Now. It was amazing!
Another great crew combo. This show has a great knack for group dynamics of the changing panels and another shout out to Jamie for bringing the new Willie Nelson up for discussion. Thanks to the Four in this episode for your participation and album choices.
Jamie Lazlo the host with most!!! Another Great show as all ways. B.C.C & C.S are two of top 10 or 20 favorites so this year. You guys know how get someone to listen or by the Album your reviewing.
WOW, Joe Bonamassa is one of the greatest guitar players of our time. His vocals are amazing too. Cannot wait to listen to Black Country Communion. Rick, I am absolutely blown away these guys don't like Bonamassa. His live album "Tales of Time " is a phenomenal recording.
only JAMIE who said he doesn't like Joe Bonamassa. The rest of us including Pete Pardo love BBC and Joe's discography. I agree that his last live album is great.
Awesome!Great respect for all four of you guys.
Cutting the throat of God by Ulcerate
Probably the best album of 2024 so far imo
I always look forward to Jamies picks thinking there would be more great fuzz records to check out. Didnt quite work out in this show.
A fun mix of YT all-stars! I don't spend as much time with the kind of legacy supergroups you talked about here, but it's good that this stuff gets covered.
Here's my picks from the past couple weeks:
1. Custard Flux - Einsteinium Delirium
Former The Luck of Eden Hall frontman Curvey has conducted an experiment of all acoustic psych prog with Custard Flux from 2018-22 with great success. On his fifth album, he’s gone all electric, resulting, unsurprisingly, in his hardest rocking album yet. It’s a band effort, with rhythm section Timothy Prettyman (bass), Nick Pruett (drums) second guitarist Vito Greco and Andy Thompson on mellotron. While there are ten tracks, most of them have transitions linking them to the next song, giving it the feel of an extended suite, tied together by the theme of atomic madness (Einsteinium is the unstable element that was discovered in the debris after the first hydrogen bomb explosion). As the future looks ever more bleak with the likelihood of nuclear disaster in our lifetime, we at least have this thoroughly modern yet out of time, spiritual, heavy trip.
2. Crypt Sermon - The Stygian Rose
3. REZN - Burden
4. Goat Girl - Below the Waste
5. Fu Manchu - The Return of Tomorrow
6. Ulcerate - Cutting the Throat of God
7. Earth Tongue - Great Haunting
8. Margaux - Inside the Marble
9. Bad Breeding - Contempt
10. MONO - Oath
Can't believe Willie Nelson is in his 90s; thought maybe he was in his late 70s, early 80s. Only a casual fan of hia but truly hope he makes it to 100, and records an album then.
I'll have to check out the Mike Campbell album. He is such an underrated guitarist.
Dirty Knobs tunes are pretty darn cool 🎉
I checked out a few songs...his voice will have to "grow on me," but the musicianship is top notch.
The Grand Slam album Hit the Ground was reissued along with the new release Wheel of Fortune. The bass parts were replaced by Rocky Newton, the keys were replaced, and the album was remixed and remastered by Andy Pearce and Matt Wortham. Nice upgrade, sounds great.
The mere mention of Black Country Communion gives me hives. Shudder. File under Transatlantic and anything featuring Zak Starkey
Great show Crew! I love the albums by Mike Campbell, The Tangent and Black Country Communion, and I'm looking forward to checking out the ones by Grand Slam and Oliver Wakeman. To be honest, I've never been much of a Collective Soul fan, and unfortunately I was kind of underwhelmed by the Bon Jovi record. A special thanks to you Jamie, for showing The Border some love. I know that SoT isn't really about Country, but I do know there are a few of us who follow the channel who dig it. Willie is a force of nature. There's no way that the guy should still be so vital at 91! The Border is one of my favorite albums this year. And, if I may, I have an album recommendation. It's the new album by Swedish Hard Rock/Stoner band Greenleaf entitled
The Head & The Habit. It was just released Friday and I've already listened to it half a dozen times. I think it's one of the best things I've heard this year, and I'd be interested in hearing what you think of it. Thanks for another great show, and enjoy what's left of your weekend. ✌️
Good show guys! I'm always looking for new music to listen to, so this is great for me. As a result of this I'm checking out several of the records you mentioned. I've already gotten Grand Slam's "Wheel Of Fortune," so thanks Brendon. It's a great album, and exactly as you described it. I'll be checking out Tangent and Black Country Communion, and I'm already a huge Collective Soul fan, so that one goes without saying. After watching Phil's review of Black Sabbath's "Never Say Never" on his channel I have subscribed. He's a fellow Brummie also. Got enough stuff here to keep me busy for a while!
Phil & Brendon rocks! 🤘🏻
Haha!!
Cool didn't know Brandon was on SOT crew. That's awesome
Brendon has appeared on various shows on SoT.
Tillison was a solo artist long before he started Tangent but he couldn't get arrested working under the moniker Parallel Or 90 Degrees.
I can't help but think that Mike Campbell is enjoying selling albums based on our thinking it's the great unrecorded Petty album.
Love that BCC has a new album. Even better if a Zep feel.
Fantastic show! Intense Passion! Great reviews!
I see my man Phil Aston (Villa) in that thumbnail. UTFV!
New Offspring song sounds a lot like Blink 182, Bowling for Soup, Fountains of Wayne and stuff of that ilk….early 2000’s pop punk.
Massive respect (at least in my part) for the review of a Bon Jovi album in this channel. When almost every time I heard about them here is for bad reasons ( and without acknowledging how the band have survived all these years)
Laszlo is made for this 😂
Great show guys & some excellent choices. Loved the Bon Jovi review. Lots of fun, & pretty accurate imo. Their best album in nearly 20 years.
I could listen to these four all day!
i would set myself on fire than listen to bon jovi...
I agree
The Black Sabbth Anno Domini box finally arrived this week (all new albums for me) and i got into Acid Mammoth recently and bought the last three albums.
So it's all doom and gloom here.
Rick I would like to know if you have ever heard of a band called Mystery they are from Canada and they are fantastic and nobody ever talks about them.they've been around a long time they have about 10 studio albums and about 4 or 5 live albums that may be even better then their studio stuff please give them a listen there are a few live performances on UA-cam all of their stuff is on UA-cam you will find the comments on each song or album reassuring of how much this band is loved Thanks and enjoy
Another top class show with wonderful insights. Tangent album is a terrific prog album. Betty’s is a posh tearoom in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. Thanks guys.
I agree with Jamie on Bonnamossa
I would like to ask Rick being from Canada if he ever heard of the band MYSTERY they to are from Canada been around for a few decades they are fantastic and nobody ever talks about them except all of us who love them have about 10/11 studio albums and about 4 or 5 live albums and they are so good live irick I would love to hear your thoughts on these guys
Great crew for this one!
I am a BCC fan boy but the new album just doesn't grab me like the previous four.
great show
Jamie is a star.
Not Bon Jovi fan but what a great mickey take. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Great vidéo.Great team.😄👍
Great show as always.
Bravo Jamie!
Saying you don't like Bonamassa tone is like saying you don't like the sound of a gibson guitar into a fender tweed amp. I find this very hard to believe. Not liking his tunes fair enough. But the tone? Come on.
A COOL TEAM TONIGHT
the only album I will not investigate is Willie Nelson...despite his influence and longevity, I HATE his voice...and I DO like country music...sorry. By the way, Jamie...I'm curious about your opinion of David Ball...cheers, everyone!
Joe Bonehead is highly overrated!
*cringe*😖Trying to describe a song for WAAAY longer than its actual life, over and over -such a waste!!...like nails on the chalkboard to me (actually, not quite that good)... and Rick, take a breath every once in a while, there's too much crap being spewed all at once, but no real meaningful information...ugh!!😣
