Your reviews are awesome. A few months back I switch to Godox and purchased AD 200s and AD 600 Pros based on your videos and absolutely no regrets! Thank you.
As a long time pro who is diving deeper into strobe photography, your videos are so thorough and informative. You've really made the research process easier and answered most questions I can think of. Thanks Robert! Keep it up!
@@robhallphotowhat light setup would you use for shooting a wedding group outside with low light? Is it doable with a single on camera flash with a diffuser? Thanks
Robert, I have watched countless reviews from you on Godox/Flashpoint items which were instrumental in helping me choose. In the end I went with the AD400 Pro and couldn't be happier. I paired it with the X Pro N transmitter and an extra receiver for my SB-700 speedlight. After learning much from you the setup was simple and everything is working well. I appreciate all the time you spend giving honest up front reviews both positive and negative. I also am looking at the Glow EZ-Lock modifiers next.
So cool! I just purchased an AD200, and I am super excited about these accessories! I have a few MagMod products, too, and I even backed their new softbox; but for traveling light this is going to change my game entirely!
Robert, Your not gonna believe this. I just received the Round head a few days ago, 1st day, test indoors, 2nd day, test indoors comparing to others, 3rd day, out in the field. After a few shots it stopped working. All shut down, off and on, set up, and worked a few times. Next morning, the only thing workin was the Modeling light. ..Sending it back for a replacement, that could take awhile. All the others, Fresnel and bulb still working great, the 4 inch reflector is pretty darn good... Thank you for all your info, im not giving up yet !!!. OHHHHH, and the Profoto Dome, Does fit, perfectly
Great job Robert. Really appreciate you taking the time to put out quality content. Looking forward to comparison video you mentioned at the end vs magmod
Question from an old guy: Some time back I was looking a Magmod. Then I saw a small notice at Amazon that folks with a pacemaker should not use because of the magnets. I contacted the manufacturer and they agreed with Amazon, although they didn't show it in their literature.
Excellent review. Your breakdown of the attachments in reference to lightbox usage was a huge assist and will save me some test time. Thanks for your review.
So I just picked up the Evolve 200 pro with all the heads. I thought I'd get a tighter beam from the round head verses the Fresnel head but that doesn't seem to be the case. I have both Mag mod and the Godox filter kits but I lost the honeycomb grid for the Godox set and as you mention the filter variety is somewhat lacking. I was thinking about just cutting up gels and putting them inside those magnetic discs, sandwiching them between the diffuser. I've been using speedlites for years doing real estate photography. The ability for them to zoom the head is very useful as it changes effects light distribution. On the other hand, the Ad 200 does not have a zoom head which means I will need to grid or snoot it to get a spot type of beam. I'm torn between using a Magmod system on the Fresnel lens or going with the godox modifier kit with the round head. what do you think will give me the the best results? PS, I've heard on some forums that the color temperature can vary between the heads.
Thank you Robert.. WOW ! See ya later profoto ! My AD200's will be happy with these, I meant I will be happy with these on my AD200's. It's about time someone is pushing those overprice things out of the way, all you pay for is the name. Godox is a must !
While I think Profoto's success with the B1/B2 was necessary to get this ball rolling, it's nice to see someone create such diverse offerings for lower prices. Just makes the whole industry compete harder.
Thanks as always for the video and already doing a light output test!! I believe Adorama just got them in (I got an email from the store yesterday), can't wait to try it!!
Thanks for the review and all the information! Could you comment on the modeling lamp with the round head? Maybe how it compares to the fresnel head or maybe the Ad300 or V1?
They're finally showing up on Amazon (Prime), not shipping with a months lead time from China. Looking forward to using them, Godox is really knocking it out of the park these days
I don't understand how stacking the round head and a modifier could be brighter than the barebulb, which shines the lights in all directions without modification. Rob, can you explain this?!
Thanks Robert. Good video and explanation of how head will work as an add-on to replace bare bulb or fresnel on Ad200. Clearly Profoto A1 inspired. With range of accessories it looks like it has the potential to make a useful accent light for hair, background item highlights, fill when balancing 600Ws head etc. whilst being small and relatively compact for location use. Also hard creative location lighting. The range of kit surrounding the Ad200 now makes the Godox route an affordable system. Currently it's more a case of Godox copying others (Magmod, Profoto) but it will be good to see what happens if/when they can start innovating on their own account.
Little late to the party, but I was wondering if you still love this head, and if you ever use the other two anymore? I have an AD200 now, might pick this up at some point, but always seems...wasteful if it means I'm never going to use the other heads. I also wonder if Godox will ever sell a kit with just this head to save new customers a little money.
I would love to see the difference between this and Magmod. I'll be anxiously waiting for the comparison. Thanks for another great informative video Robert! I was just about to pull the trigger on some Magmod equipment before this video popped up.
Tell me please, what is the temperature of the light in a new head? Is it closer to the temperature of a bare lamp or fresnel head? I was surprised that they have a different color.
I am a fan of Godox (except the issue I had with the SLB60w handles breaking and they never responded to a request for couple of 'S' type handles to keep me happy, but they didn't want to keep me happy :) I have two AD200 kits with HR200 heads and all the other accessories etc and if I get this modifier kit ( and maybe another AD200 ) I can do just about anything! Every modifier I own is 'Bowens' so they all fit. Already sold my Nikon SU800 transmitter. Have a couple of Godox X1R-N Nikon transmitter for my SB-910's so don't need Pocket Wizards anymore and also two Quantum power blocks not required because of AD200s power. They seem to be re-inventing the world of lighting.
I have two of the accessory kits just like you reviewed, and noticed they recently updated the round-head. I have a couple of the new version on the way already and can't wait to see what the difference is.
@@robhallphoto - If you look on Adorama's website you can see the new round head design. It's been out of stock forever and I ordered my first two accessory kits from China. Great review! Also I'm very curious how this stacks up to the bare bulb + $8.00 standard reflector and diffuser, and no softbox on either one. Although the standard reflector loses the convenience of the magnetic attachments.
Nope. I’ve expressed this in two videos and directly to Godox. I’d love to see them take this head, double the bulbs on an angle to not obstruct one another, and and push it into the body of an AD-B2
Excellent Rob. I was looking into magmod accessories for some upcoming projects and now with this review, I would like to see how does it perform against magmod. Very cool video mad. Thx again.
Hey Robert, I'm wondering since the bulb inside the Round Head is similar to the Barebulb isn't it similar to using the Barebulb with the Godox AD-S2 reflector & AD-S11 Honeycomb? To me it looks that like it's probably just as easy to gel using other gel sets and I also don't see a huge difference between the two methods apart from the smaller form factor and snappy magnet usage on the Round Head? Would be interesting to see a comparison between the Round Head vs AD-S2/AD-S11 combo
Another great review Rob. I agree with this accessory kits shortcomings. I'm not much of a gel user mainly due to the issue of using them with the 360's. The Godox kit for those is dreadful lol. I bought an Evolv 200 and plan on getting another for the occasional portrait so it would be nice to have an array of gels. What I'd most like to see though are more grids because that fit's more into product and architectural photography. I'll probably get the Rogue system where you get a 45 & 25 that can be stacked to make 16 degrees but I'd sure rather have them in this magnetized Godox kit. I guess I could just buy multiple of these but $60 is ridiculous just to get an extra grid.
Dang you Rob Hall. I expected that I would have little use for this particular item, but after watching your video, I've now got to have it. You're giving me g.a.s. ;-)
Maybe we forgot about the Godox AD-S2 Standard Reflector with Soft Diffuser for AD200 . Well it's round and it has a removal round diffuser, with round colored filter options and it's a standard reflector.
Lol, idk but it's just the nature of the internet. I'm at peace ignoring it. The funny thing is a user downvoting a video is better than them not hitting anything, analytically.
I’m interested in this round head. So your using it in a modifier with no diffusion from the modifiers? I like the cheetah modifiers, I own the QSB-34. Would you use this setup with the QSB-26 or the Max20 from Cheetahstand?
Another great video Rob. I just hope that if they do bring out an updated AD-B2 to accept these round head accessories, that they take that opportunity to fix the ridiculous situation of not being able to plug in 2xEC200’s at the back.
Really? Quick work by Godox. Is it still called the ‘EC200’. I now want to order a pair of these but want to ensure I don’t order the old version (which I already have one of) by mistake
BTW what is the diameter of the round head and gel kit? It could be possible to use another round gel kit like the one for the rogue grid kit but with the ring of the round head accessory kit.
I just bought an ad200pro and the h200r. I tried to measure the amount of light with a flashmeter. Distance 2 meter iso 200. I get the follwing aperture numbers: fresnel: 36 roundhead: 18 barebulb: 11 Round 18 is the same number I get from a TT350. Is this correct, or do I have a defective h200r?
to the speedlite head? Haven't tested yet, i'm going to do that and output tests of each modifier in my magmod comparison video today! Should have it up tonight.
Dang!, I wished I would have waited. This looks much more convenient than my two magmod basic kits. o' well technology what can you do. Thanks for another imformative video.
Wondering when you might do a review of the XP-200 extension head for the AD-200. Got mine from Adorama and it nicely converts any Godox AD-200 head into a smaller form factor for utilization as on-camera or tight space utilization.
I saw this as I was checking out a store's website. Looks really good. Which one do you prefer though? This one or the magmod on the AD200 fresnel head?
I'm currently using all round heads with their AK-R1 kit, for simplicity's sake. Still have magmod in my kit for speedlights, at least until the round speedlight comes out.
Robert Hall Photography Adorama has colored silicone sleeves that can be cut down. They are protective full sleeves but think they will hold in heat so I️ will resize them. Thanks. Great videos and appreciate the help and sharing knowledge. Love watching your videos. A breath of fresh are in tough times
Adorama and Amazon both indicate that the item is no longer available in regards to the accessory kit. No reasons are given. I ordered the kit about 2.5 weeks ago and got it this past monday from Formito via Amazon. It was the newer version of the kit. When chatting with Adorama they said they did not know if would ever be back in stock. Very confusing situation.
Jason Bodden true guys however sold all my profioto gear no turning back for me lol. Double my lighting a new couple of lenses and money left over to take wifey for dinner 👊❤️👊❤️❤️❤️
I'm in a bind trying to figure out which I should buy the godocs ad200 or the 400 Pro? I've had a Speedlight a tiny speed light and it's done an okay job but if I want to charge more for my pictures and portraits I need something better so do I work my way up to that 400 Pro or do I just go for it?
I mean it’s all about the conditions you want to shoot in. If you are going to be in bright light a lot go for the AD400 Pro, or possibly an AD600 if you can manage the weight.
A last one concerning output (deep umbrella use) : barebulb + AD-S6 versus roundhead ? With bowens adaptator, what about light leak without AD-S17 metal trick ?
as a wedding photographer im trying to think of ways this would be useful, i use my ad200 handheld with a magsphere 100% of the time, and my xplor600 with a rapidbox xxl for everything
1. "Using the round head instead of the barebulb create a TINY BIT more specularity" 2. round head + dome diffuser : "than it's pretty much a negligeable difference" -> barebulb versus round head + dome diffuser = negligeable difference too 3. modeling lamp : not efficient So, what's the point ? I don't find any use for this round head except for cto... 3 at that time. Something I missed ? Please, gimme answer. Thanks for the review.
I found this video that you mentioned in your other vid. Am I reading this right.? The round head (f16) puts out more light than the bare bulb (f11 .8) and the round head +dome puts out less (f11 .6) ...??
Aloha and thank you for all your informative videos. Im wondering if the Dome is the same size as the Profoto Dome and therefor interchangeable... FYI I have 2 AD600's and 1 AD200.
YES, the Profoto Dome fits perfectly on the Godox Round Head. Cant tell if its the exact same Dome Material. But I suspect it is. Should work nice in an umbrelle, etc although it cuts power down a good amount vs the bulb.
I'm not finding my round head on my Evolv 200 Pro any more powerful than the Flashpoint version of the V1. You indicated that it was more powerful than the bulb with a reflector, in my tests it wasn't even close. Again, it was essentially the same power output as the FP R2 round head. What am I missing?
Not sure. Tested thin a standard softbox it meters as listed in this video, likely due to the increase in forward light. Testing a production unit in an indirect softbox, later, I did find the H200R .5 stops lower than the barebulb (not surprising given this eliminates center hot spots), but still significantly more powerful than the V1 (.7 stops). I'd assume your test is simply a matter of the modifier used.
That’s it I’ll bet. I was using them essentially bare. I like the round head for the AD200 but imho it would have more utility if the fresnel portion was motorized as on a speed light. All that said the AD200 is amazing in its own right with the fresnel head and the bare bulb with a reflector.
Quick question. I received my round head but I want to purchase the accessories, however, they don't seem to be in stock yet. Any idea when they will hit the market in the US?
Does the H200 R ring flash head work on the new AD200 Pro? Ive heard of mounting problems when using it on the Pro and works on the regular AD200 only. Any info on this?
i kinda wish Godox would make a good dedicated LED head that would transform the AD200 into a good continuous light.. instead of having to attach it into the AD-B2 twin head adapter the only other one i saw is too weak for any good use
This might be a stupid comment but... I just got the Ad200 today and I noticed you can't use the modeling light with the bare bulb. Does this make the round head better for using inside a softbox?
Yeah there is no led on the barebulb. Personally i don't think the LED is high powered enough on the fresnel or round head to really be useable for modeling anyways.
No to disassembling. Which I’m actually glad about because I believe the magnets are sandwiched into the plastic housing which means they should only come out if the plastic is broken. The gels come out though, so I believe some custom options would be to adhere gel to the clear disk or just sandwich a gel in between another modifier.
Curious how come your round head looks different to the one i got in my 2 ak-r1 kits? Mine doesn’t have the ring attached to it and you’re forced to use it last in the attachment stack.
Hey Rob - when you figure out that 'other solution' to the lack of gel options (so far) let us know! I'd like to see a gel Caddy - a magnetic ring that you can just slot different coloured gels into. That would work, right? If Godox don't get around to making it I'm guessing someone could get that figured out. I mean, I could probably do it, in a DIY way, but I'd prefer to buy something... edit: [Actually; I'm assuming that's what it is already? The Gels fir into the magnetic ring? So we'd just need the gels made, or a blank template that we can cut gels to? - Mine hasn't arrived yet so I'm sure you can answer this]
Problem is the Godox “Gel Caddy” is designed to fit their hard gels, so it’s not like you can slot in a standard flimsy speedlight gel, it would just fall out.
So it fits that if you could buy clear blank plastic hard gel templates from Godox (or anyone else), you could, maybe, stick your own gels to them? The blank becomes the carrier
Like many of us, and Godox product developer, saw the Profoto A1 for $995 for a 70ws flash with round head and some magnets (the accessories that attach to the magnets are extra) and said WTF...K? Good for Godox for making one and probably have the price in the $200(?) range with lithium battery pack(?). How much difference can some 2 inch round head flash make compare to regular speed light on the camera? Not that much. Small light source is still a small light source. Small form factor round flash heads have been around for a while, Sunpak, Quantum, Norman have been making them decades ago. You can get a truck load of them for $995 with way more power and much better modifiers. Yeah, you need to put them on a light stand, but any serious photographer would do so anyway.
I HATE Profoto for marketing the round head as softer. That’s an outright lie. But, it does produce a more even light pattern with more gradual shadow transition which is far more pleasing than a speedlight (especially the V860ii). I just appreciate the connectivity to the AD200 round head and modifiers. It makes my kit smaller to have one set of modifiers that can work for various light tools, whether on camera or off.

Good first review Rob...Don't understand the people that downvote...What they expect to see?Jeez
That’s already been solved! There’s an updated version of the EC200 that fits.
Really? Quick work by Godox. Is it still called the ‘EC200’. I now want to order a pair of these but want to ensure I don’t order the old version (which I already have one of) by mistake
Yeah, in the US Adorama has it listed as "V2". Not sure how they are doing it elsewhere.
Robert Hall Photography Fantastic thanks. I just ordered a pair from them
BTW what is the diameter of the round head and gel kit? It could be possible to use another round gel kit like the one for the rogue grid kit but with the ring of the round head accessory kit.
I use MagMod at the moment.....will be interesting in seeing the video comparing this two set ups...
Already did!
The manikin looks just like you 😄 thanks for the video 🙌🏻
there is a firmware update for ad200 . Wondering should i update it? Benefits of updating ? Have you updated yours Robert?
What a brilliant video man. Highly appreciated.
I just bought an ad200pro and the h200r. I tried to measure the amount of light with a flashmeter. Distance 2 meter iso 200. I get the follwing aperture numbers: fresnel: 36 roundhead: 18 barebulb: 11
Round 18 is the same number I get from a TT350. Is this correct, or do I have a defective h200r?
great information ill be adding the round head to my work very soon
Great review! Did you try it with the ec-200 extension thingy?
I just cracked that open today! But i'll have a quick video on that coming up too.
Will the round had take profoto A1 accessories?
great video. I have a question, how the output compares to the flash head? Thanks
to the speedlite head? Haven't tested yet, i'm going to do that and output tests of each modifier in my magmod comparison video today! Should have it up tonight.
hi,
godox listened …. :-)
now there is a
Godox V-11C V-11T 30pcs Speedlite Color Filter Kit V11C V11T
Set AK-R16 Mount voor Ronde Flash V1 h200R AK-R1
Dang!, I wished I would have waited. This looks much more convenient than my two magmod basic kits. o' well technology what can you do. Thanks for another imformative video.
Hah, I feel this way every month with gear. Impossible to stay 100% up to date.
Wondering when you might do a review of the XP-200 extension head for the AD-200. Got mine from Adorama and it nicely converts any Godox AD-200 head into a smaller form factor for utilization as on-camera or tight space utilization.
Already up on my channel
Hi,
When your giving power ie f stop settings, please mention iso and how far your meter was from the light.
Thanks
I saw this as I was checking out a store's website. Looks really good. Which one do you prefer though? This one or the magmod on the AD200 fresnel head?
ua-cam.com/video/r7Fp3SbmnWI/v-deo.html
I'm currently using all round heads with their AK-R1 kit, for simplicity's sake. Still have magmod in my kit for speedlights, at least until the round speedlight comes out.
Please demo this round head to create a rembrandt lighting using standard metal reflector
Hi can I turn on the led with the Xpro trigger? Can I access to the bulb (take off the diffuser)? Thanks
Rob where did you get the colored end cap for the ad200 definitely great idea for multiple units Thanks for all your videos
A Michigan engineer 3d printed them and sold them on lightsavers.com, but I don't think he sells them anymore.
Robert Hall Photography bummer. Guess it’s colored duct tape for me.
Addressed in today's video that releases at 11am eastern.
R.I.p profoto !!!🤣. Good job rob 👊👊
I doubt that lol. But they probably modeled this after the A1.
It's a good response & alternative to the profoto A1
Not knocking it. This is great but this won't hurt Profoto lol.
Jason Bodden true guys however sold all my profioto gear no turning back for me lol. Double my lighting a new couple of lenses and money left over to take wifey for dinner 👊❤️👊❤️❤️❤️
Hector Rivera Nothing wrong with more light, more gear, and saving money 😎
Thanks Robert
You're welcome!
A last one concerning output (deep umbrella use) :
barebulb + AD-S6 versus roundhead ? With bowens adaptator, what about light leak without AD-S17 metal trick ?
Good Stuff as always Robert.
Thanks Jose
as a wedding photographer im trying to think of ways this would be useful, i use my ad200 handheld with a magsphere 100% of the time, and my xplor600 with a rapidbox xxl for everything
Honestly, just the round head bare would be a pretty similar experience to the Ad200 with a magsphere.
How did you adjust the three stages of brightness on the modeling lamp?
1. "Using the round head instead of the barebulb create a TINY BIT more specularity"
2. round head + dome diffuser : "than it's pretty much a negligeable difference"
-> barebulb versus round head + dome diffuser = negligeable difference too
3. modeling lamp : not efficient
So, what's the point ? I don't find any use for this round head except for cto... 3 at that time. Something I missed ? Please, gimme answer.
Thanks for the review.
it's about the attachments. gels grid etc. it's quicker and more convenient.
Ordered through your link.
Thanks for the support
I found this video that you mentioned in your other vid.
Am I reading this right.? The round head (f16) puts out more light than the bare bulb (f11 .8) and the round head +dome puts out less (f11 .6) ...??
In a softbox, yes.
Aloha and thank you for all your informative videos. Im wondering if the Dome is the same size as the Profoto Dome and therefor interchangeable... FYI I have 2 AD600's and 1 AD200.
No clue, never used the Profoto kit.
Robert Hall Photography ok, thank you. I'll let you know as soon as my round head kit comes in.
YES, the Profoto Dome fits perfectly on the Godox Round Head. Cant tell if its the exact same Dome Material. But I suspect it is. Should work nice in an umbrelle, etc although it cuts power down a good amount vs the bulb.
Curious as to what that red back on the AD200 is?
Not sure, I’m waiting myself!
Gotcha! At least you have the test set to work with :-)
I just realized I’m watching this video and I entered the flashpoint giveaway haha fingers crossed!!!!
Does the H200 R ring flash head work on the new AD200 Pro? Ive heard of mounting problems when using it on the Pro and works on the regular AD200 only. Any info on this?
Works just fine. All the heads are backwards compatible and there's only one pin design on both AD200s.
Thanks! You are THE best!
Why thank YOU
Hi there, what about the power output? is the round head more powerful than the fresnel head?
No, less.
@@robhallphoto Thank you
i kinda wish Godox would make a good dedicated LED head that would transform the AD200 into a good continuous light.. instead of having to attach it into the AD-B2 twin head adapter
the only other one i saw is too weak for any good use
I think the big issue is battery life. Those batteries aren't a high voltage so they probably can't sustain too powerful of an LED
that is true though, based on my excperience with the AD200 and the AD-B2 head it can run the battery out quickly
hi!! thanks for video! i have question: if you compare maximum power round head or 2 classic head ad200 which one better?
round head is less than both the original 2 heads for AD200, because of diffusion.
@@robhallphoto thank you!
Robert Hall Photography Thanks for your response
my Godox AK-R1 Accessories Kit came with two clear gels? is that so I can colour them myself?
It's not really made clear what their purpose is, but it seems to be so you can cut another gel and sandwich it between
Robert, do the filter rings look like they can be disassembled and the filter replaced by cutting from standard gel sheets?
No to disassembling. Which I’m actually glad about because I believe the magnets are sandwiched into the plastic housing which means they should only come out if the plastic is broken.
The gels come out though, so I believe some custom options would be to adhere gel to the clear disk or just sandwich a gel in between another modifier.
No. It seems like it's one or two pieces molded together without screws. But, sandwiching gels is definitely possible.
Sounds like something do-able. Thanks.
Curious how come your round head looks different to the one i got in my 2 ak-r1 kits? Mine doesn’t have the ring attached to it and you’re forced to use it last in the attachment stack.
The dome diffuser? It was changed in the final production design. This was early release.
Robert, what is that red bottlecap behind the AD200?
flashhavoc.com/lightsavers-flash-bumper-now-available/
You can find them at www.lightsavers.store
I wish they had magnetic options for the front of the AD B2 head
I hope they make that too
Perfect explanation. Thanks.
Or could you cut basic round gel disks and slot them in behind the diffuser, as a workaround?
would be nice if they labeled the color filters
Where can you buy the accessories for the round head? I can't find them at B&H or Adorama..
Link is in the description, currently available at Adorama.
