It's actually more common with predators than you might think. Why fight something that could hurt you when you can just say "peace bro" and pick on a weakling for food
@@elitef3642 this is why I always liked the griffin. Despite being a huge fictitious beast it felt so natural, like an actual creature existing in a unique ecosystem.
Love how it keeps running off and is a thorn in your side then when its finally time to take it on for real some dude with a book comes in and says "allow me"
The griffin wasn’t so hard, but the whole blue tower quest was absolutely amazing! It’s probably my favorite quest next to slaying the dragon. Something about storming a castle/tower with a beast inside that makes its home there really appeals to me especially when it’s a monster that can fly. And for this epic music to accompany it is fucking amazing
I played this quest at low level and it was hard. That made it more memorable. When this music started and the griffin smashed down, my pawns and I were thrown around in the ensuing battle. And later in the tower I was struggling until the new owner of Salomet's Grimoire turned up and assisted us.
The moment where this game “clicked” for me was when I was a kid and I was obsessed with lightning magic so I played a mage and only used lightning spells, but as we all know the griffin is immune to lightning, so I remember fighting him at the top and struggling to do any damage to him. But then that NPC you give salomets grimoire to shows up and starts spamming comestion and I just watched him kill it from 100-0. Absolute core memory and one of my favorite games
just walking, when suddenly griffon it lands, we fight for a bit, then it takes off and flies away with my main pawn still attached to it's face. it seems griffons have a very short attention span, as this happens quite frequently
I love how they set up the Griffin at blue moon tower. Climbing that tower while that flying beast tries to break the ground beneath you and then finally being at the top, hurling fireballs and arrows to bring it down.
Also if you complete the Sidequest A Troublesome Tome, the NPC you do that quest for arrives to the fight to help you, if you completed the quest by giving him the real Salomet's Grimoire he joins the fight, if you gave him a forgery he gets pissed off at you
This was me I completely didn’t know there was this epic dungeon boss battle and just one shotted the griffin I had to reset to last checkpoint just to enjoy it

I managed to kill it early somehow. It fell on the ground so I set up two great cannons and a ruinous sigil, then hammered away at them. It wasn't instant, but still.
It *is* possible to kill the Griffin before it can escape to Bluemoon Tower (though this can actually be a *bad* thing, since in this case you can't get into Bluemoon Tower until you have to go after Salomet). You also don't get the much more cinematic battle with the Griffin at Bluemoon Tower if you kill it before it can escape. But one of the simplest ways to keep the Griffin grounded is to keep making sure to set it on fire. It can't fly while it's on fire.
