''Beneath a faltered sky; cross loamless plains, and watered blight
Ah! Where gone those days, once Glory shone so bright?
Fallen 'neath baleful wings dark as night.
Ah! A moment give to me
Hark! Shall none hear this soul's tale,
Of a land, benight?
Pitiful man whom death has undone,
Leaned upon a broken blade, looks too, skyward.
Prithee above Be this thy word?
Cried out, begged for truth but no answer's sound be heard.
Yet, now he sees the dragon's dogma,
Unbound by time; all-binding, grand design.
Land and skies, and seas yearn,
Finish the cycle of eternal return.
Finish the cycle of eternal return. ''
I can see how Coils of Light basically acts as a bridge to the lyrics of this. Both are brilliant songs.
Putting this on a loop for the upcoming 10 year event. Let's hope the cycle of eternal return is broken and we finally get that damn sequel.

Man, I love Kenshi but even the masochist's sandbox isn't chill enough a vibe to calm me down.
Dragon's Dogma 2 is desperately needed.
There's been leaks recently hinting to the fact it may happen, and with the new Netflix Show I can highly expect it. So excited!
The director said that Capcom gave him a choice between making DD2 or DMC5 first, and he chose the latter (obviously). I took that as a strong sign that a sequel is now in the works.
It will be the game to save us all.
@@DarkwraithAbyssal The one to redeem us all
omg some real bros here
After playing this game through about 20 times, I began reflecting upon the story of this and Dark Arisen. The story is soooo FUCKING SAD AND DEPRESSING!!!! Seriously, trapped forever in a loop without ending, always reaching the same end, freedom always just out of reach, and the fact that there are more worlds like this!! AND THE PAWWNS!!! Created only to serve, without a will of its own. Great game but a fucking depressing storyline. I need a proper ending where the loop ends. Someday, the dream will end.(FFX)
wow i never realized that, now i think about it, i feel depressed now ,is like trying to escape a cave but the cave keeps looping you back where you started
***Spoilers to those who have not beaten the game yet below. Don't read on in this reply if you haven't finished the game and/or don't want spoilers.***
In the regular (Not Dark Arisen) version, in the opening theme song they even say something along the lines of "Why can't they understand we kill ourselves in the end?"
Heck, good thing we didn't know better or else that would have literally spoiled the ending.
Show me the strength to break the yoke that binds you.
knowwhoiamyet It isnt a great spoiler because it isn't, you can't do it, you will wait for the next hero as you-know-who...
John Freeman Actually you do. It just doesn't have the same effect as on other people. It only has an effect on half of your existence. Hence you-know-who pulling it out in the cutscene.
2:20 onwards always gives me goosebumps, like the entire song is building up to that one verse. Alongside the original Metal Gear Solid and Oblivion this game has one of my favourite game soundtracks.
the very start of the song and that part are truly incredible. The start felt immediately familiar when I started playing, oddly enough.
2:20 is just...dang.
YET, NOW HE SEES.. THE DRAGON'S DOGMA
Just my opinion, but I think the whole game is built upon that verse.
Dragon's Dogma 2 is sadly lacking the Eternal Return leitmotif which is disappointing. It was such an integral part of the first game's ost so it's sad that it's not present without dlc. I was really hoping to hear some new music like this.
It's lacking... music. Like at all
Game feels like it was scored with generic temp tracks from a hollywood production
@@Lazypackmule Yeah. The orchestral used in DD2 sounds really generic. Ironically, I often feel like synthesized orchestra just sounds better nowadays than live. The instrumentation is meatier and more dynamic with synth. But it's not just the orchestral nature of the DD2 tracks, it's the lack of any connecting leitmotif or memorable melodies.
Also, DD1 isn't afraid to mix in interesting instrument choices, like it's sparing (but effective) use of electric guitar.
No, sorry, this song is litteraly a prophecy of Dragon's Dogma 2 events
@@snsr1234 and yet it's still not in the game. This is like saying the game is great because the first game is a prequel
to be fair, eternal return wouldn't work with the direction DD2 was going. Eternal return is part of finishing the cycle so it starts over with your pawn becoming you. In DD2 your goal is to destroy the entire cycle which kills you and your pawn in the end
A game with a fire in its heart, burning brightly or clinging to its last embers.
But the sequel just felt like the fire had long been gone.
Well said, i personally think that reputation-wise Dragon's Dogma 2 might have killed the chance of a DD3 with how poorly it was received. I will always fully blame Capcom for blowing out the kneecaps of the game during development and then expecting it to be able to run a full marathon afterwards.

idk I thought dd2 was great
Do people still play this? I feel like the game it's not as popular as it should be. I mean, it's a GREAT game, and it seems like it's fading away from memory.
I still play it all the time. It's just one of those games I can keep coming back to; it's really sad so many people don't know about it.
C. Cephen
its a great game i love it, and it could totally be something ,like an iconic game, but it wasnt enough to catch people's attention
Hitomi miju
It is a great game, but I feel it isn't as polished as it should be after release. The game has a lot of issues that need tweaking. That's why we're all patiently waiting for DD2 :)
We also need more smart people playing this game, because people are dissing the story when they don't even get the idea of "eternal return". The story premise is quite amazing if people realize what it meant... Even the generic plot "I will defeat the dragon and save the kingdom" crap that most RPG's do anyway has a great meaning to it thanks to this premise.
Levan DN DD is one of my favorite RPGs , has a outstanding soundtrack , decent gameplay, the world is big enough to be 'open world' , some enemies make you test your own skills ,the bosses deserve the tittle of 'boss' and yeah there were a few things that did kind dumb-it down, but is pretty good, that why i say DD2 is going to be amazing if capcom play their cards right.
I think it's because DD is a bit similar to Skyrim and all the Skyrim fanboys and fangirls are busy playing that instead of DD.
I, too compare DD and Skyrim often but in my opinion DD is better! Of course I wished DD had more ah... social features? like Skyrim has but I like the gameplay, skills, monsters (especially the dragons) and story much better.
I never thought there would be a game in my whole life again, that I would be addicted to like I'm with DD EVEN NOW. I've got the feeling I have still things I didn't see (even though it's my 6th playthrough now) and I just didn't get that "adventure" feeling from skyrim..... so...
or maybe it's just that most people don't know what a good game is anymore...
This games music and gameplay are fantasic! The story's concept is good, but I feel the execution was lacking. I wish Capcom would stop messing with Dragon's Dogma Online and start developement on Dragon's Dogma 2. They could really make hundreds of them with the Eternal Return concept. I would just love to see just one more Dragon's Dogma that polished all of the original concepts of DD and made it a new amazing RPG brand! It is really a shame that it went under the radar though, it's an amazing game and deserves some love despite its faults.
or they could bring the online version to the west
@Ian Rossman tell me!
@@celegwen nothing much, dragon dogma online is now closed, but dragon's dogma 2 is on development, expect it on 2022-2023 (I hope)
I think the execution was wonderful
The execution perfectly plasmed the theme of the game. You start by being nothing, a plebeian. You go on a long, hard quest to go to Gran Soren. You follow unclear quests designed to confuse you on the journal (quest steps), because of you not knowing the locations. The fast travel is lore friendly, and something you earn and set yourself. The dragons have a weak-spot that make you thing what they really are.
IMO the game is designed to "bore you", but being charismatic enough to force you to play it again sometime in the future, maybe by design too, because of the revelations on the true ending. It's a dying world and the only thing keeping it going is the player finishing it again and again, that's why ending the "eternal return", the "dragon's dogma", is by stoping playing.
SPOILERS BELOW:
I heard this song way before ending the game, but I never paid attention to the vocals.
Now, I beat the game yesterday, and when this song popped out in the credits, I got curious and went and checked the lyrics.
It makes So. Much. Sense. Now.
"Finish the cycle of Eternal Return". The World yearning for the end of a God, so that a new one would Arise and take its place. Ending the Cycle. And starting the new one. The final, core truth of this world. The Dragon's Dogma.
Little analysis and opinions:
The game tells a tale. The tale of a world. You are in this world as the protagonist, but it seems you are not the "central focus" of the game IMO. The focus is the World itself. And you don't completely get it until the end of the game, until God itself reveals it. It may seem a sad and melancholic world, but is that true really? Souls may be suffering, our protagonist condemned to live an impossibly long time as a lonely god, but even that comes to pass. Those suffering souls will be reborn again, maybe into a peaceful life in a new Cycle. Another Arisen will challenge our lonely protagonist as the Seneschal, and take his place. His soul will be reborn again into another life, into another cycle. And, given enough time, that soul will experience EVERYTHING like all the others. Being a feeble ordinary human in one and being The Hero in another. Getting his life unjustly cut short by anything in one instance, and living a long, peaceful life in another. Being a simple mortal for uncountable lives, and becoming God for an uncountable amount of time.
What I am saying is that each and every soul will experience everything possible in this eternal world. NPCs like Madeleine or Carston will be merchants in this instance of the world (the game we play), but in another cycle, they may well become Arisen (and then Gods or Dragons) themselves.
In this context, is such a World "sad"? I don't think so. When I see such a world, the first words that comes to my mind are "Balanced", "Just".
And the fact they tied in this world with in game mechanics (such as NG+) makes it even better to me.
Now you know what is, in fact, the dogma of the title.
I will buying this game for the third time on October 3.
Is this part of the eternal cycle?

DOGMA 2 IS REAAAAL!!! Arisens we’ve won
My favorite RPG. Of. All. Time.
One of the only games I've ever played that really felt like I was playing DnD: The Videogame, even including the ACTUAL DnD video games that have been released
@Kapitan Dupa Don't lose hope sir, the Director of ht game said that before the last DMC, they were discussing either to do DMC5 or a sequel do Dragon's Dogma. So I think it wouldn't be too far fetch to say they are working on it right now! :D
@Kapitan Dupa I guess it's faulty logic by the studio's executives. Look at this way: You're making a game, everyone in the studio think it's gonna be great and a huge hit, so the higher ups set and expected sales figure, such as: 10 million copies sold. At a 60 dollar price, the expected return in investment should be 600 million dollars, right?
In comparsion: say the game's budget is 100 million dollars, hitting that goal above, there should be a profit of 500 million dollars.
Now say the game doesn't make that much success, and only manage to sell 5 million copies. They are still getting all their money's back with 300 million dollars in revenue, a 200 million dollars in profit.
You might say: "Hey, that's great, they got all their money's back, and still made a profit which will be able to viabilize the production of 2 more games of the same production size."
The thing is: The game is still considered a failure by the studio and investors, because, as much money they got, they didn't hit the expected goal they've set before releasing the game. So instead of immediately making a sequel (like it happened with Dark Souls), the studio puts the IP on the shelf and goes on to more profitable options.
TL;DR: In the end nowadays, it's about money and return of investment. Consumer satisfaction and reputation comes second (we're seeing Blizzard and Bethesda fall hard this year).
But we're seeing feintly an opposite trend with some companies like CDPR, doing games the way they were done in the past.
Sorry about he long post, this was all in my head for a long time, and I've had to write it down haha.
@Kapitan Dupa Like I said, it may sound like a success, but what we need to know are the opinions of the heads of capcom and what were their profits projections were.
I agree with you tho, it looks like a resounding success regardless, and maybe they are treating the game like an Elder Scrolls, which takes more than a decade for a sequel to come out. Who knows, we'll have to keep hoping for an annoucement.

This version of the track is so much better than the title screen. There's one little note where she sings slightly sharp and it throws everything way the hell off for me. She's got a great voice and she obviously knows how to use it - I'm blaming the sound director for choosing the wrong take.

How about dd2?
As much as I love Selection of Fate, I really feel like part of this should have played during the final boss.
I'd disagree. Sure it would be cool to have the intro music at the end but it wouldn't fit thematically. As is, "eternal return" is part of the dark Arisen trilogy of musical pieces. "Eternal return" (the Arisen's theme), "Coils of Light" (the Dark Arisen's theme) and the theme for Daimon's second form (the Dark Arisen's hatred). As it stands, the songs tell a story with the piece connecting them all being the goal of destroying the cycle, of "finishing the cycle of eternal return". The first one is somber and sad at first but becomes hopeful, the second theme is tragic, as it is about the tragedy of the Dark Arisen and the third one is about the hatred of Daimon, personified in the awakened form, accompanied by the sinister and dramatic theme. But all of them have the clear goal of ending the cycle. While the first two outright say it, "eternal return" even saying it twice, the third theme only has the motive that accompanies the line "finish the cycle of eternal return", showing that even with Ashe being gone, only the hatred of Daimon remaining, the goal is still present, lingering.
I don't have as much to say about Selection of Fate, except for it really showing that this fight requires will. While "Truth" does this a lot better, by being mysterious yet somehow hopeful, "Selection of Fate" is faster and more dynamic, showing that this is the true fight, while the first theme was a test of will

Haven't played Dragon's Dogma in years, but... This makes me want to play the game again. I still remember the chills I got the first time I saw the dragon in the opening cut-scene after the 'tutorial' through the castle... the sheer size of it... It really felt like something to be feared and respected for its power, like how an evil dragon should be. It's still one of my favorite dragon designs.
Also, random, but the fight with that chimera during the 'tutorial' will never not be fun to me. I always loved fighting that thing. Such a cool monster!

How so? They're both 3rd Person, they both have a hack and slash combat system which can rely on dodging and magic. I recommended this game to my no-life Dark Souls friend and he immediately got hooked on it. Preferring one over the other is fine but saying their completely different is bogus.

@@yungjose3369 Thankfully, I didn't had to.
I gotta replay this game.

This is definitely a game i'll keep for a very long time this song is beautiful, emotional and explains the main plot of the story very well! I felt like crying at the end it was so sweet!
DRAGON'S DOGMA 2 LET'S GOOOO
Just a few months now, can't wait!
I come with good news Dragon's Dogma 2 was leaked
10 days till DD 2! I’m so excited, hope the soundtrack is just as good❤
if this doesn't feature on netflix's anime i will be so disapointed.
Better be the opening
@@pedroxruz6032 We're all dissapointed here
Played 7 years ago on my PS3. Still Playing this game because of the quarentine. Just starting my 2nd playthrough on my ps4 at 4:29 am LoL. This song gave me chills.
"I've gained quest knowledge."
Also, the "Dragon", makes Alduin look like a pussy! I mean really, this dragon made the World-Eater, the Bane of Kings, look like a complete push over. Plus, the fight against him was more epic than facing Alduin, in Sovngarde.
All roads lead to Gran Soren
Damn, I never listened to the whole thing before. This is friggin awesome.
Masterworks all, you can't go wrong.
Best way to listen to this is SO LOUD IT BREAKS YOUR SPEAKERS but then goes down to a normal volume once loading your save data loads. Followed by voice acting in cutscenes thats so quiet compared to everything else you can't hear it.
Still a great game though.
9 DAYS!
Haven’t heard this song in years since i played this game. After hearing it again I still remember loading up the game and sitting at the title screen just to hear this song. I am definitely going to be playing this again in the near future!
did a dragons dogma 2 get shown off or something? with cat people and ice bridges and no release window??? haha that would be wild yall
damn that would be crazy for sure
no way man haha
Can't wait to play this masterpiece once more. Let's finish the circle of the eternal return.
