Don't think cars like this will ever come back. Emissions standards are too strict to allow for high-RPM N/A engines with good throttle response. I figured this out when I failed emissions by just removing the rev-hang from my old civic. It increases the NOx just enough to fail. That's why manuals with sharp throttle response are a thing of the past. Younger driving enthusiasts don't even know how good the manual sports cars were from the 90's and early 2000's... Razor sharp response and total driver-control. Newer cars are just "floor it and let the computers take care of everything."
Fun S2000 fact, it has a start button, not a start/stop button. To turn the car off you simply turn the key like a normal car. If you hit the button with the engine running you’ll hear the lovely grind of the starter motor bumping the spinning flywheel 😬. I miss my Suzuka 03 AP1, it was my only car and daily for about 5 years. Fun times.

ive driven alot of sports cars. and as an s2000 owner, maybe it is bias, it is the most fun you can have on 4 wheels. the shifter is the best and the thrills one can have without breaking the law. Honda at its peak. I wish theyd make a newer one. the f20 f22 series engines were beast.

This car aged so good. Timeless design.
It is impossible to not love an S2000. It had the highest brake horsepower per litre for NA production cars when it debuted, it's still pretty phenomenal now!
Wobbly shift knob. Reminds of my S2000. Replace the engine and trans mounts and it'll be solid again.
It's a bit older, so they should do a lot, but the magic is just ripping it for what it is!!!

AP1 S2000 owner here with 113k miles. New convertible top, new clutch, extended floor mats, fujitsobo exhaust and AP2 v1 wheels. The car looks and drives amazing! Best gear box in the business. Awesome all around.

The AP1 S2k was a long time dream car for me, ideally in this color combo, the blue on blue, or white on beige. I’d still love to own one if the opportunity ever presents itself.

Not a race car but definitely makes you feel like it’s capable I remember a friends friend I passed at a Rotary he was in a Mercedes S63 and then got caught at a traffic light they pulled up smiling.. By the time I crossed the intersection when the light turned green he was 15 car lengths ahead 😅

Looking at the prices and its wild to me that an '05 S2000 and Viper have a sizable price range overlap. But it also makes perfect sense. 😅
I have an 8th gen si, I have always wanted to drive an s2000. Watching reviews and this video, can relate to a lot of this just that my revs are 8400, I am fwd, and I have intake, header, and exhaust. Personally, I love being able to rev my car out and rip on it without having to worry about reliability or getting a massive speeding ticket. One day I will drive an s2000.

I have both 8th gen si (fa5) and AP1 s2000, I feel like both are equal in terms of speed as I have both fbo tuned pretty evenly matched but if both are in stock form the s2000 pulls harder n wins top end, but in terms of nimbleness the s2000 is quicker for turns and such it just feels lighter on its feet if that makes sense.
Now we have Tedward Tophering on video, does that mean Topher is taking a trip East to Tedward? Tohpedward is youtube Turducken.

My father has an '02 with 20k on it. Same colors but with the factory black seats.. He keeps saying he is gonna sell it but I keep telling him to hold on to it.

it's kinda weird that we don't make cars like that anymore. I mean, the ND Miata is definitely pretty close, and in many ways it's better, but it's like we prefer building and buying boring cars when we used to build 9,000 rpm roadsters for the masses.
I hope to see the day when every automatic is an EV, and only manual trans gas cars could be allowed to be manufactured.
WE didn't used to build 9000rpm roadsters for the masses, HONDA built a 9000rpm roadster for a somewhat affordable price (was still much more expensive than a NB or NC miata) and Honda lost money on each car they built. Building an S2000 is not feasible for any car company, Honda just wanted to do something special on their birthday. And there are some car companies that still build special cars like Toyota's GR Yaris, takes 10 times longer to build than a standard Yaris but still very affordable.

Best car I’ve ever owned…and stupidly let go of years ago. Add forced induction and it’s arguably the perfect sports car even more.
Fun car! I’m surprised nobody has mentioned what height you should be (or under) to comfortably fit into one of these. Not everyone will fit unless you want to be driving a stick shift with one knee against the door and the other against the middle console. Yet you will still gladly drive it each time! 😂
Probably 6 feet and up are gonna get uncomfortable with knees

5:20 - wow, the blinkers in USDM Audis looks hideous. Why does the stop light flickers when you have dynamic turn signal below which does the job perfectly.
US regulation- the amber turn signals dont have the required surface area
its a very outdated and silly rule which is why USDM foreign brand cars have separate red turn signals
Love Tedward and Topher, but man I wished they had better roads nearby. Bunch of on ramps and 90 degree angle turns are no substitute for a good canyon road

Unfortunately if the Honda roadster did come back, it would be in the form of a heavy EV or, at best, a hybrid still heavy with batteries. Even if it was ICE powered it would only rev to 6 or 6.5. These days are over and it sucks but it is what it is.

Never understood the citicism that comes from america towards the S2000. The AP1 has enough torque to follow traffic in a city and if you drive sporty on a mountain road or a track, the whole fun and challenge of the car is to keep the revs high. That ofc takes skills which have to be practised. The S2000 is perfect as it was first designed, the AP2 was never planned but existed only in the US because Americans cannot live without doing traffic light "pulls" xD. The biggest critisim i have towards the car are the factory seats, they are really trash and don't support you at all! So a bucket seat is a must. And they should have used a hydraulic steering rack, although it's not as bad as everyone says. And the brakes could have been a size bigger from factory, although those are really good brakes.

At 6'3 this car is impossible for me to fit in and be able to turn the steering wheel. Its as shame cause I would love to have one. Guess I have to settle for a BRZ 😏

It's definitely cool to rev that high, but I feel like that would get exhausting having to ring its neck every time you want to get to freeway speeds.
the thing is you don't have to, even the AP1 is perfectly capable to handle city traffic and roads without VTEC

How is that car not stalling out? It looks like in these videos Ted is letting off the clutch super fast after the shifting.
you are not going to stall most cars out by shifting gears. there's a lot of momentum being carried in the wheels, preventing the engine from ever dying.
@@kballs94 No I mean they say don't let off the clutch too quickly or you'll stall but Ted lets off that clutch super fast it seems no issue
