What a terrific drummer. I saw him play with AWB in 1977 at the Lyceum Ballroom London. He was sooo tight and funky I just will never forget that performance. I also felt depressed though as I wanted to be that good too! ..LOL

If drummers could play with this mans feel or groove, they would never have the urge to play chops again...Steve,Porcaro,Tony Thompson,Matt Chamberlain and a few more i'm forgetting have the ability to play it,lay down time, and set it off...All about groove...
You just have to listen to a few bars of Steve laying down a groove and you know that he is just a one of a kind human being! Phenomenal drummer to boot!

Steve is one of those rare drummers who can funk up a storm with the likes of AWB, and then hit hard and solid as a rock, as he did with Tom Petty. If you ask me, he's one of the greats! :)

@@steveferrone8687 Hey Steve- You’re the best! Period, end of story. I watched the new TP (Happy birthday and miss ya man) film last night here in Vegas. It was fantastic and you are aging gracefully my friend. Looking good dude! My wife is a Scouser, so you might say I’m partial to Brits- ha Keep on rocking Steve and hope to come see you and check you out here in Vegas on any of your next gigs!!! Love to hear from you again when you get to Las Vegas- Your friend, Brian in LV
The first time I heard SF playing was the intro to 'Beginning Again' of the Brian Auger's Oblivion Express album 'Straight Ahead' in 1974. The kick and snare work blew me away: ua-cam.com/video/7KhCHPnqspE/v-deo.html
First time I saw steve was 3 feet in front his bass drum ,with Brian Augers Oblivion Express . @ NY’s Bitter End “74 . He blew my mind . Been a huge fan ever since . What a groove !!!
Dave Weckl and Vinnie Colaiuta have both a pristine pocket feel, you'll hear it a bit better when they work on other peoples records where they hold themselves a little bit back. I definately didn't mean them (and lots of other worldclass drummers - you know them). It was more on this youtube drum circus thing happening ... which might be totally misleading when it comes to the right focus in pratice.
