An excellent video.... I have learned so much about my CQ50 watching this and I am now about to strip it down to fit a new cooling fan. Thank you so much for this truly informative video... Awesome!!!! Mike
That ribbon, connected to a power button, on the one side it is connected to a motherboard, there is a simple little lock that pops up, like a little door, and you remove it. On the other side, I believe, this cable is not removable from power button, unless you will rip it and than attach it back somehow. But I wouldn't suggest it.
Well hell ;) I'm gonna have to see what other videos you've made. I've of course seen all the video's re the CQ50 because I have the usual over heating problem. I've taken it apart several times over the past couple years. Now I'm doing the copper shim mod. So I just ran across this video and am surprised I've never seen it. That being said . . compared to every other one iv'e seen that was a VERY CLEAN and well done CQ50 disassemble video. You're right "no talk, no music, just work" . . . nice brother! Just checked video link . . you've been busy!
Thanks for the vid. I am prepping to do this to our old CQ50 as the fan has stopped working. Not sure if you would know but I am wondering if I should buy a new fan to put in or just try taking apart and cleaning out the fan. Could a dirty fan stop it from running? Don't want to have to take it apart more than once lol.
Bits I guess, husky, from walmart. Drill is Skill from walmart for sure. You know, pretty much nobody can remember so many screws... So, I suggest to use a A4 paper and mark all screws are coming from...
Hi, it should be pretty obvious that you need only remove a palmrest. I would say remove everything like in the video and remove a palmrest. You may leave memory wifi and hdd, Just make sure that there is no screws under hdd. Also you will need to remove LCD Prior to replace touchpad - make sure that all cables was connected - maybe it was a reason why it is not working.
Hello, if you need to replace a fan, you will need to remove a motherboard. After you remove a motherboard you may will be able even leave heat sink in place, just unscrew tiny screws for fan and replace it.
Where did you get that bit on the drill. I am disabled and also could you make a video of the screw type length and type. It would help me a lot as I have been diagnosed with Alzheimer and can not remember what screw goes where . I took my laptop apart and now can not remember where screws go. I have the same laptop as the one in this video.
It depends on how dirty is the fan. I you want for take it apart once for sure, you better buy a new fan. Than if fan will fail, you will be able to test your old one :) Fan sitting in a heatsink, and I guess there are some tiny screws holding it, so you unscrew it and can clean it well. Use antistatic device, unplug from power source, battery. Be careful! Have a good luck!
You're amazing! Do I need to pull all the internals if I just want to replace the touchpad (or actually the whole silver frame with touchpad on it)? Got the used subassembly on Ebay for cheap. Thanks!
i snapped off a little piece of the white plastic at 7:52 so 2 of the tiny metal pins are exposed. as long as theyre in place, should the laptop still turn on? it says its charging but the power button does nothing.
Hi, laptop will start and it will charge, because this are USB. They may not work or one will not work and another will. You can buy some used usb over internet for not a huge money...
Muchas gracias me sirvio mucho y la pude reparar gracias a tu video :). Thanks a lot, It was very useful, I could fix my laptop because of your video :)

hi, just wondering, my battery fell out the bottom and dropped on the floor and says not charging. I was in the middle of disassembling the laptop..Question is: do I have a loose connection if the battery says "replace" and won't charge (but laptop works on AC adapter), or is the battery really dead?? thx
If your laptop works on a charger and don't work on a battery - probably a bad battery. Specially if we know that this battery was dropped :) and before that drop - everything was ok...

Both are 15.4" physically it will fit (not sure about screw holes) I would not risk because there are plenty dv6000 lcd on the market.

Just be careful and don't break it. Watch this video again, it should be easy...
You're amazing!

Hi, im trying to replace a fan of this laptop. how would i get to it? would i have to remove everything like in your video?
Hey!!! This is just great! THANKS!!!
Thanks! Saved me an hour...
You are welcome!!!
How do you remove the ZIF ribbon that is connected to the power button? I can't seem to figure out from your video how to release it.
i snapped off a little piece of the white plastic at 7:52 so 2 of the tiny metal pins are exposed. as long as theyre in place, should the laptop still turn on? it says its charging but the power button does nothing.
Vfarzavil sounds like a loose connection inside, re-secure it, and use Elmer's glue, or a glue from a hot glue gun to secure
Amigo!!! You are very welcome!!!
Make sure you removed all screws on the other side... you don't need to remove a mouse pad to remove a palmrest...
Thank's for yo'ur time from Bogota Colombia.
Sorry for my english .. is no good..

Nope, it is a newer model ... even cq40 looks different. It looks more like cq56 cq57 but smaller.
This will work too :)
