Also, I remember reading someplace, some time ago, that the end of removable batteries was so that makers could more efficiently use the available space inside the device, with more "free-form" designs, rather than the rectangular wafer battery. But, your tear-down shows that is not the case.

I've been bingeing these videos for days now, they're absolutely fantastic. I just upgraded my phone from a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge to a Motorola Edge, because I'd been saddened that Samsung had abandoned that Edge space and only now found a phone that could do similar things. Also at 4500 mAH, I'm pretty happy with the battery life too.

We say that no one says that now because phones are thin enough but they weren't before
Xiaomi phones are thin and still every one of them has a 4100 mAh
They are NOT small, thin yes but the once with high specs are all larger phones. Respect is due to Xiaomi but they are not breaking ground in the small phone segment.
Plenty of huge gigantic phones have a fine battery but then you go down in size and they have the same specs as the 30% bigger phone but 35% smaller battery and a battery life that does not become a issue after years it is to bad from day one.

You can't do it as he said. Battery can't go over the logic board because of the heat that the SOC produces. It will be a time bomb if you do it. But we can exclude some of the logic board as Asus k6000 or something like that did and result in a huge battery.

I'm using a ulefone 3W with a 13000mAh battery and am loving it! I don't have all that big hands, but it's really nice to use even with one hand after about 3 days of getting used to how to weild it. Even one handed works just fine

I've had a Motorola G/E-series for ages. They're reasonably thick, extremely durable, and have good enough battery life. It'll usually last through a day of heavy use. I prefer my phones to be reasonably hefty, and Motorola does that well, in a small package (I don't want something with a jumbotron screen). I am, however, looking for a larger battery, as I prefer to have at least some electricity in reserve

Phone companies could release different configurations for phones. There could be a phone that is thicker but has a bigger batterie or a telephoto lens that support 10x zoom or more. I would definetly give up a couple of milimeters for these types of features.

I really like the idea of my iPhone being thicker and heavier to include a larger battery. Got the Smart Battery Case with my iPhone 11 and I actually love how it makes the phone feel, and the size and weight is by no means inconvenient. Plus the essentially 2-day battery life is awesome. Would have loved it if the phone just came this way.

That failed project was an extreme solution that no one wanted. If they just half the thickness of the battery and offered a 6,000mah or even an 8,000mah and added wireless qi, along with better internal specs, that phone would sell like crazy. Right idea, poor implementation.

There was a start up, about five years ago, that was bought out, and never heard of again. I wish I had remember the details. The start up, used the screen a speaker, and it was loud enough to use at a party. The problem was the laws physicis. Some that loud, drained the average smart phone in minutes. The thought was, just use a smaller protion of the screens area, but I never knew what happened. There is a whole host of applications, a smart phone could be doing, if it had more battery space.
So glad my LG G5 has a removable battery, it started dying at 20% and running out really quickly but its been fine since i got a new battery

Good video! I carry my phone around in a leather wallet case which makes it about 2cm thick... And its not a problem at all. A thicker phone that has both more battery as well as built in drop protection so it doesn't need a case would be lovely.

And I love it that way, you can actually get a more nicer grip on it than a normal phone
But if your phone was 9mm thick on its own and the back of it was made with something both grippy and durable (I don't know what phone you have but I'm gonna make the assumption it has a glass back) would you use a case to begin with?
That said if you asked me for a material that that has all those properties and still allows for a visually appealing design I wouldn't have a clue.

@@babypatrick2872 Honestly speaking not enough as I'm incredibly addicted to these stuff, my phone's screen is on 90% of the time and I regularly play games that drain said battery (e.g 3d games like Honkai Impact 3). However, this is just for me as not everyone is someone who needs help with game addiction haha.
In spite of that it tanks well enough as long as I make sure to cut down on battery usage at a decent spot like 30% such as dropping the refresh rate to 60hz if I don't find myself being near a charging port any time soon for the rest of the day.
Through intense use with screen on almost at all times and constantly playing 3D games it gives me a good 6 ish hours (constant usage no breaks) with some juice to spare so I can switch to being conservative so it doesn't die until I find a port. Mileage may vary.
For the average user it easily lasts through the entire day with some juice to spare for the next if you forgot to charge.
