On Day 239 of my sobriety journey, I tuned in to Dan Vasc's powerful rendition of "Zombie," originally by The Cranberries and covered by Bad Wolves. Before diving into the music, I shared some personal reflections on the war in Ireland during the early '90s, a time of great unrest that made lasting impressions on my younger self. Seeing those images on the news and in the papers was deeply distressing.
I also touched on the kind comments I’ve been receiving, encouraging me to seek Jesus and Christianity. While I appreciate the intent and kindness behind these suggestions, I explained that as someone living in Sri Lanka with a Buddhist family, my spiritual path is already clear. Buddhism resonates with me and aligns with the culture and beliefs of my family and the country I now call home. So, there's no need to worry about my faith-I’m in a good place.
As for the music, Dan Vasc delivered an incredible cover of "Zombie." His vocals and passion truly bring out the emotion in this song, and I was thoroughly impressed. At the end, he asked what the latest track that moved me was, and without hesitation, I said "Danielle (Smile On My Face)" by Fred again.. That track really hits the spot!

War only brings suffering and destruction and life is simply too precious and should be better used to promote peace, understanding and togetherness. Everyone can make a contribution, be it through small acts of kindness or by standing up for justice and peace in the community. Dan Vasc is my absolute favorite singer. No matter which song I have seen or heard from him so far, it is a blessing. Pure enjoyment.

I have friends who are Christian, Catholic, Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim, Mormon, Jewish, Wiccan, Agnostic, and Atheist. What attracts me to all these people is not their religion or lack of religion. It is their character. They are all kind, caring, and loving people. That's what matters to me.

The song “Zombie”, sung impressively and powerfully by Dan Vasc, has its own story: It was written by the singer of the Irish band “The Cranberrys”, Dolores O’Riordan, in memory of two children who were killed in an IRA bomb attack. In January 2018, the US metal band “Bad Wolves” wanted to re-record the song with Dolores O’Riordan in London, but she didn’t show up for the recording. Bad Wolves drove to her hotel and found her dead. They covered the song anyway and released a touching music video on February 22, 2018, in which Dolores can be seen as a golden statue, separated from the band by a pane of glass. After a concert on June 19, 2018, the band presented O’Riordan’s children with a check for $250,000 from the proceeds of the song. Thank you for your reaction!
Oh wow! I knew about the history of the song and of the Dolores & Bad Wolves' collaboration that didn't happen because of her death. However, this is the first I've learned of them being the ones to find her deceased during a wellness chk at her hotel nor did I know about the tribute to her in their video and the gift to her children from the song's proceeds. It's important not to hurt others for your own benefit .
In my opinion, there are now many people who justify their bad actions by saying: everything I can, everything for my happiness and the harm is the choice of the wronged😳. Big me and big ego😱. Blah blah blah. It is NO good.
Being good is the result of action and not pretty words without support.
If someone discriminates or imposes a belief it is not good....
Faith is that it doesn't need evidence and is our choice.

In short: faith does not always go hand in hand with whether we are good people.
Being good and doing good is important regardless of what we believe. A moral backbone is important.

The issue is the lack of respect!
It's one thing to share your beliefs but it's pretty arrogant to think that yours is "the right way!"
I believe in Y'shua. Whenever I have the opportunity to share, I do. If the conversation is not welcomed, I respect their stance then I let it go. That doesn't mean that I will not be praying for the individual. It's in my nature. 🙏
Two things I have 100% belief in is The Power of Prayer and that one of the greatest, if not the greatest gift we were given by The Creator, is the "freedom of choice!" Somebody or someone had to have created this beautiful thing we call a universe.
One more comment or rather question: Why, if you had to choose, you would choose Buddhism simply because it is your family's and your birth country's traditional beliefs? Just asking.

My point of view about religions is that they are all human inventions, creations from our capacity of reflection, in a attempt to find answers and security. Christianism says that God made the man to his image but I think men made the gods to there images and needs. When I see how many wars, atrocities and injustices came out, and still come out of them, I cannot relate to any.
This rendition of The Cranberrys Zombie is deeply felt and suits very well to Dan’s powerful voice. 👌🏻

Enjoyed the reaction to Dan's cover of a cover. I thought Dan did it justice in his rendition. Of course, most would have a hard time replicating Dolores' style of singing, which was a type of Irish grieving called keening, but it's a great song with such a sad story behind it either way it's sung. RIP Dolores O'Riordan.
I'm so sorry about your board. My brother was a surfer (Gulf Coast & West Coast - CA, Mexico, & Costa Rica), and he created & repaired boards for years, too. My heart sank right when you showed the break. 😢 That's not just a minor ding repair by any means. Here's hoping you at least caught a great wave before it snapped & that you can replace it in the near future. I'm not sure how feasible a repair would be in Sri Lanka or if the cost would be so expensive that it would be cheaper just to get a new one. Borrowing someone's board is frustrating, though. Hang in there. 😉

I hate when my boards break 😭I did caught some great waves before! I think its possible to repair. She did not snapped fully so maybe possible so at least my surf spot place can use it for renting out. I need to get a new one, the season on the east side is soon over and many boards is put up for sale. Lets see! I agree borrowing sucks! I have another board just need to change finbox on on it.
