  • I have a loaner until my Ultra arrives next week. I'm impatient! What comparisons would you like to see once the Ultra arrives? Let me know down below.

So I've been debating getting one of these. I'm so grateful for this video as no one else has tested it in Logic so thank you. My Mac Pro 5,1 (2010) is struggling. Please could you test a summing stack of drum kit pieces with each track contains EQ's, compress's, gates etc?? That would be so awesome of you!

What size drive have you ordered, I have all of east west so would be very helpful to see how it responds. Currently have it all on an external SSD as my Mac mini has a small internal drive? Thank you for doing this, slot of money to just splash out and this will really help.

Lucky you! I have to wait until the end of October until my Mac will be shipped...
I would like to see two different scenarious:
    - How the machine handles a heavy loaded track, so like a virtual synth with serial effects compared to your old mini
    - Impact of Logic in Rosetta mode, since companies like NI are still not native (e.g. Komplete Kontrol)
I am very interested to see how 3rd party plugins run on the platform, since I'd a lot of trouble with e.g. NI and Logic running on Montery. My (bad) solution: For the 3rd party stuff a second mac is running...

Suggestion: how many simultaneous tracks can be recorded using very small buffer sizes @ 96k before each system starts spinning beach balls or popping up “System Overload” dialogue boxes.
We already know that during mixdown and with very large buffer sizes, even an entry level Mini can handle over a hundred tracks. But at a very small buffer size (to keep round-trip latency very low) @ 96k, things get dicey for lesser systems.
That’s what I’d like to see, anyway.

Hi, Great video! I currently stream all my sample libraries from a powerful PC via Vienna Ensemble Pro to my old Mac Pro. VEPro doesn't run natively on M1 Macs and requires Rosetta. VSL inform me that it should run fine on the Mac Studio. However I run my whole studio this way, and given that the Mac Studio is a hefty investment I'd like to be reassured that it will work. Have you any experience of this, or of running other plug-ins through Rosetta on the Mac Studio?

What SSD drive are you using as a sample drive? I am looking at using spitfire & omnisphere for starters...

I think you were smart to go with the Ultra. Either machine would do the job, but the virtual instruments like brute force. I'm on a 2018 MBP 6 core i7 with 16 GB RAM. I remember being stoked when I got it that I could open more than one Alchemy at a time! Most of my songs are fine, but there are a few where I need to freeze tracks. I can only image what people who use stuff like Spitfire go through.

Just copied this setup (exact patches etc.) on my 2019 MacBook Pro - 2.3 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9 with 32 gigs of RAM. It spread the load amongst 7 of the 14 threads and all threads were below 25%. Not sure what patch you used for Track 7, but I used "70s Space Twinkles" on Alchemy. I haven't used summing stacks like this very often and this sure got me thinking about the possiblities - sky's the limit it looks like. Thank you for this.

Yeah, that’s still a great computer for Logic! Did you put each plug-in the highest render mode? Alchemy and Sculpture both start in a lower rendered and you have to switch them manually to the highest. Also, I turned up the Sculpture patches to use max resources. Neither of those will still probably break the bank but I’m curious if they change what your computer is using. Also, did you go down to a 32 sample buffer?

@@LogicProLife Just changed all of the settings to as you described. It did affect the meters but only slightly (roughly 10% or so). I also run an 2019 iMac in the studio and the results are even a little better, so I guess I'm not gonna be able to talk my wife into me getting a new computer - at least not without me feeling guilty about it. I've got 34 keyboards in there so maybe 35 would be a better investment.

Interesting! I would also love to play around with a new M1 Mac... My Mac Book Pro from 2017 works pritty well with Logic only, but if I use Screenrecording and have a bigger project, it slows down. So this is an interesting topic for me, to see if it is worth to go with ultra or if the max is enough. Bigger Logic Project, Screenrecording, Videoediting are interesting topics. Thanks for sharing.
