What IS the difference?
Tudca supports liver function as a whole, particularly bile FLOW, production and a number of other supportive functions that include the gallbladder's health. Ox bile assists in the break down of foods, particularly fatty acids which are essential to nutrient absorption.
What is Ox Bile?
Bile is a yellow-ish digestive fluid that lives in our gallbladder, but it is produced by the liver. Adequate bile production is critical for human health because bile helps our body digest and absorb the fat from our food in addition to fat-soluble vitamins, A, D, E, and K.
After the liver makes bile, it is stored in the gallbladder and then released after we eat to help break down our food. Bile helps smooth out the digestive process by creating proper pH balance in our small intestine. In certain situations, bile supports the liver in removing excess cholesterol.
TUDCA: Tauroursodeoxycholic acid
Tauroursodeoxycholic acid, more commonly referred to as TUDCA, is a bile salt that is found naturally occurring in the body. When regular bile salts reach the intestines, they can be metabolized by bacteria into UDCA and then later bound to a taurine molecule to become TUDCA.
TUDCA is a water-soluble bile salt, which is in contrast to regular bile salts possessing both water soluble and fat soluble ends and conferring a detergent effect. This is good for the bile salt's biological purpose (emulsifying fats in the intestines to help with absorption) but when bile acids back up in the liver, a clinical state called cholestasis which occurs when the liver is unhealthy, these bile salts can be damaging to cells by destroying the membranes and signaling for cell death. TUDCA and other water soluble bile salts like UDCA compete with this toxicity and thus indirectly protect cells from death.

*Edited to add, that while this info may work for some, it's not a one-size-fits-all. I tried using ox bile and lipase, and it made things so much worse. The only thing that seems to work for me is cholestyramine and a mostly meat diet.* This is the best video/ informational source I've come across since having my gallbladder removed 10 years ago. This information should be put into a pamphlet and handed out to cholecystectomy patients. Patients should be advised on how to save their gallbladders if it's reasonable for them before surgery. And even better yet, we should be taught as children or young adults precisely how the foods we choose to eat affect our bodies, and what to do or how to improve when we've made bad choices and are dealing with the consequences. I don't use calculus everyday, but I eat food everyday, so having this information would have been money in the bank. Thank God I have it now and I'm expecting my digestion to get better and better every day. I'm so grateful to you for your time and effort in making this video, and for making it so easy to understand for the average human. Thank you. ✨🙏✨❤️
Thank you for sharing.
Good analysis. I take tudca on an empty stomach in the morning and ox bile an hour after meals and drink lots of lemon water, and l still have my gallbladder. Thank you for your video
Yeah and when we get acid reflux and don't know why because the doctors just tells us you don't need a gall bladder have a nice day, we are all dropping antacids by the bag to stop the reflux thus making it worse.
try eating SMALL meals, frequently
Try eliminating sugar, starches and all simple carbohydrates and you will likely stop having acid reflux.
My doctor recommended for me to get rid of my gallbladder, I have a few 1cm gallstones...and did not recommended a holistic approach first.
You are amazing, and the best! Thank you!
Fantastic Video! So helpful! Thank You Doc!!!

You caught that??? lol
Very informative video. I have had gallbladder sludge for a few years now, started taking tudca on empty stomach recently but was not sure when I should be taking ox bile. Helped out a lot, thank you 👍
Yes, you can always give it a try...
Great thanks
You are welcome...
You didn't mention pairing Tudca with NAC like your last vid. I assume you still recommend to pair it?
Yes, you can. This was just about answering 'The difference between Ox Bile and TUDCA?'

I used to have chronic diarrhea from bile acid malabsorption caused by SIBO. I had to figure this out on my own, because no doctor was able to properly diagnose me. The diarrhea accidentally got cured when I took antibiotics for a toenail infection.
Since then, I've had chronic constipation instead (and even back when I had diarrhea, it was "constipated diarrhea" for lack of a better term - watery with yellow/green bile but took forever to come out). I take psyllium husk and apple pectin capsules, but they only help a little. The biggest problem is that after the initial large or medium amount of stool comes out, there's always a few extra little pieces that don't want to come out, and I've developed hemorrhoids straining to try to get the last bits out. I even sometimes have to get up and walk around a bit before they come down low enough to be pushed out. And sometimes there's a small amount of watery stool residue that I have to strain to get out after the solid stools have come out, and it takes 30 minutes before it stops. Also, my digestion seems to take forever, because food from one meal often comes out in multiple defecation sessions, sometimes even on different days.
Is it possible that TUDCA could be helpful in my case? And if not, what are some other things to try?
Give TUDCA a try. You can always book a consultation www.totalwellnessdupage.com to discuss further.
I have the same exact symptoms, exactly the same. Still trying to figure it out myself because doctors aren’t willing to truly help look for a root cause. It’s “just ibs” etc..
You need to add fermented food to your diet
ACV Helps also😊
Awesome video keep up the good content.
Thank you!

So informative! Hey doc my 80 yr old mom was diagnosed with Parkinson's. She has no gallbladder. Her walking is really becoming more difficult. Should she start taking tudca asap. About 1500 mil.? And oxbile too?

Hi Dr,
Can you please talk about elastase? My son has very low markers.
I am using comprehensive enzymes, i wonder if there is anything else to accelerate the markers.
Thank you for your guidance
Great suggestion!
Thank you very much for your detailed information. The timing of taken is very important and you have covered this issue very well.
Last question:
Does Tudka affect the acidity of the stomach like salt does?
Not at all
@@thejdocrealminute4648 So, it means Tudka can be taken at any time even together with food?
Better absorbed on an empty stomach@@nanaswan1508
I have non alcoholic fatty liver with inflammation. Should i take tudca with ox bile. And what additional supplements should i take?
Hello dr i wanted to ask you a question for my stomach issues and gastric problems which causes stomach noises which one would u suggest me to buy the ox bile supplements or tudca supplements? Pls it would be really helpful if u answer me
Watch my newest video. You need to focus on stabilizing your stomach acid.
Will the Tudca help clear out gallstones? All docs say gallbladder removal but I feel there is natural remedies for clearing gallstones aside from surgery
Can you ask me a question? If you don't have the gallbladder and we don't have bile when we eat but there is a direct discharge to the small intestine, won't there be an excess of bile in the small intestine and it will bloated more when we ingest more ox bile or tudca?
TUDCA -- no --> different system. Ox Bile --> this is where YOU have to play around with the dosage and when you take them. The intestines......will have 'non concentrated bile' in there because there is NO gallbladder. watch my video on the gallbladder ......ua-cam.com/video/BshwMbMMhmc/v-deo.htmlsi=w87UzBwjVPlkBlSn ua-cam.com/video/4eKoD1O9S5k/v-deo.htmlsi=sugJL9yJdwOUbdjZ
My Grandson was born with Billary Atresia with failing Kasai and Doctors did put a tube in when he was born,But he is now 20 yrs old and he still has problems with his liver and his number are at 14 right now and we were told he would have a transplant if his numbers reach 18 and do you think Ox bile or Tudca would help him.
Thank you for this fantastic information, just what I wanted to know! I have fairly good digestion now, take a small dose of betaine hcl to prevent acid reflux. Is there any chance ox bile and/or TUDCA could help with histamine intolerance? My symptoms are not digestive, they are skin reactions - hives, rashes, and extreme itching. I started taking a freeze-dried liver supplement and it helped quite a bit, that's why I was looking for other ways to support the liver and found you. Thanks!
Yes, TUDCA/Ox bile may help. Quercetin and Berberine will help as well as the natural anti-histamine.
@@thejdocrealminute4648 Thanks so much! I just started taking TUDCA, for two days so far, and can already see improvement. I am devouring a bunch of your videos!
So how long before you feel the benefits
I've had a few different problems with my gut, IBS, low stomach acid, leaky gut, Gerd and fatty liver to name a few, that I've now sorted. I've also taken Tudca and my fat digestion is much better than it was but not completely fixed even with the stomach acid levels back to normal & bile flow sorted. My question is can I take ox bile by itself as I have my gal bladder & if we recycle up to 90% with it filing the gal bladder to release after we eat food, this would remove the timing aspect for me to know exactly when to take it, as I've heard lots of different conflicting advice on this, some say just after food, some hr to 2 hrs after and my last bottle said before food, this one just says the dosage and nothing about when, I can't find much info about the timing with a gal bladder intact, any advice i much appreciated
I would recommend taking ox-bile WITH food. TUDCA -- in between meals.
Hello Dr., can we have Tudca and Serrapeptase together. Thank you
Yes we can. -- on an empty stomach.
Hey Doc! Thanks for posting great info through ur videos. I have no GB since 4 years. Every time I try to fast for more than 18-24 hours I have diarrhoea issue especially bilious loos stools. I really want to do prolonged fasting due to it’s proven benefits on overall health particularly fat loss and reduction in IR. Can you please let me know how to tackle with this and whether taking TUDCA/ OxB will be helpful?
Both are good. To prevent diarrhea --- include Fiber in your diet.
@@thejdocrealminute4648 Thanks again. Could you please let me know how can a person with no GB be able to effectively do prolonged fasting comfortably without bloating or diarrhoea issues?
Do not follow any fasting diet or intermittent fasting diet but eat regularly during the day. Please have complete meals with carbohydrates, protein and vegetables. .@@ptej348
I developed barretts after having gallbladder removed, i just started taking both of these i hope they help, also been taking betaine hcl and acv
Keep us posted!
Look up freeze dried strawberries for Barrett’s. Also, search freeze dried strawberries and Barrett’s on here.
I went to the Dr last week and I completely reversed my barretts, I couldn't believe it!
I’m taking urso for PBC.
Would taking tudca in addition to urso be beneficial?
Yes, it would. Taking them both would be beneficial. I have a patient 24 yoa male --- recently diagnosed with PBC. I want to do a video on that soon. It is an interesting condition. I am sorry you have that.
Can bile sludge and fatty liver cause hypertension and is telsmisartan considered the safest bp med with least side effects long term?
Yes, bile sludge and fatty liver CAN be a cause of hypertension.
If I am fasting (no gallbladder) to induce apoptosis in breast cancer cells is Tudca counterproductive and I should stick to ox bile only?
Take both.
Hi I’m currently taking nac for liver health. I have multiple alcohol drinks a week and would like to try tudca. I am young and healthy, not sure if tudca would help ? I’m afraid of the purging or a bad reaction. I have a bottle of tudca now but have been turned off by reading bad side effects.
Why not give it a try? If someone asked you to try a new 'drink' ---- you probably would?
@@thejdocrealminute4648 absolutely! I’ll report back in a few weeks
What’s better for SIBO condition ?
Use both.
Dr I had my gallbladder removed about 10 years ago ever since I did I have had problems with my health they never gave me a medicine nor followed up with me since than I have had bad blood work results and health what should I do ?
I would recommend taking Ox Bile during a big meal and TUDCA on an empty stomach. Watch my other videos as well.
What to take if you have multiple small gallstones and some polyps?
Include serrapeptase as well. ua-cam.com/video/3wWxRp_BvX4/v-deo.htmlsi=Mab-It5hvwM7U6ov
Which is better this or B vitamins for breaking down fats and carbs? I know multi B vitamin supplements are much cheaper and B12 is essential.
I don't have a gallbladder so both are essential for me. 😊
Correct -- a MUST@@dianalewandowski7421
When do you take the vinegar through out the day or what
When do you take betaine hydrochloric acid?
first thing in the morning.....or when ever you have an empty stomach 45 minutes before eating@@robincottrell5615
Hi! I take a probiotic on an empty stomach in the morning. Can I take Tudca at the same time?
Tudca lowers acid in the belly so have it at least 2 hours after eating
Hi, doctor. 11 years ago, I was in treatment and finished treatment for Hepatitis C. After a recent MRI scan, my results indicate a 2cm tumor located in my liver. However, my bloodwork test has no exact marker for a Hepatitis C virus. Since my doctor wouldn't do anything until another MRI scan in six months, what do you recommend for controlling this tumor. Would TUDCA help? Thank you so much.
TUDCA will help the liver. I cannot say anything regarding the Tumor.
胆囊位置有肿胀感,can be taken tudca and bile salt at the same day…?
Yes, it can.
Tudca interacts with thyroid medications. Any suggestions?
Take it later in the day.
For oxbile, when you say for 'loose stool' , take close to meals. This means just before the meal ?
Take it RIGHT before the meal ...or during the meal. Loose stool --> unusually watery bowel movements.
@@thejdocrealminute4648 thank you! Will try

Hey Doc... I've had my gallbladder removed and was never taught this info. My stomach burns and seems to reach my throat. It gets worst at night. People with no gallbladder can we take ox bile and tudca together
Yes, You should take them together for the rest of your life. At least, Ox bile take for the rest of your life.
You got me confused at the 9:10-17 mark...which supplement are you exactly talking about when u talk about playing around with the dosage and timing? Are u taking about the Betaine HCL or the Ox Bile??? You do not make it clear..b/c in one sentence you are talking about low stomach acid to digest food w/the HCL and then you talk about dosages after you eat, so which are you talking about pleaase? What do you wait on and see to take?
Is TUDCA actually made of bear bile or is it from a synthetic source?
TUDCA, which is a specific compound that has been only discovered in bear bile so far and does not appear in the other animal bile samples, was also detected in artificial bear bile, which reduces apoptosis by modulation of AP-1 and shows anticholestatic effect
Wow that was such a convoluted answer. In short Tudca is synthetic and NOT made from bears, plain and simple 😂
@@micaonyx5301 That rare case when its effect is almost identical to natural bear bile
AFTER OR BEFORE?
I am somwh confused, but it kinda make more sense to me to take Ox bile before the meal so it can pass through stomach quick and avoid to meet with stomach acid and alkalize the stomach. Bile should be in duodenum before the food and acid rushes in, so it can take effect and break it down. I can't imagine how will ox bile work after the meal while food is halfway there and the bile will just get mixed with the acid in the stomach, make a sizzle and do nothing to the food.
And also I noticed in another video "when not to take bile salts" you said that bile salts should be taken before a meal, not after. So what is the right way?
Research --- has shown: Right Before the meal/during the meal --- yes. Bile is released ONCE the food passes into the small intestines.
@@thejdocrealminute4648 Nice. Can you make a video on timing and dosage for taking ox bile without having gallbladder. I heard 1h-2h after the meal or on empty stomach. But details are vague. That would be helpful...
I have a video already made. Ox bile should be taken WITH a meal that contains a good amount 25 grams of protein.@@araboy7474
I have very low stomach acid... wouldn't taking ox bile before or during my meal make my stomach even more alkaline and lower the acid? I take bile an hour or more after my meals. I'm also taking TUDCA to clear gallbladder sludge and help with digestion. Am I doing this correctly considering my low acid?
Take TUDCA on an empty stomach. Take Ox bile WITH your meal. Once the food passes through the stomach.....that is when it is very important. If you need to work on stomach pH ---ua-cam.com/video/yiK9FL5wc-s/v-deo.htmlsi=ltXS6xJf33vMqz1O@@lovemyishi7144
Taurus. Never evaluated how Taurus would do as a doctor. I suppose, being determined, stubborn, having career tenacity far more than the others...yeah. Lots of Taurus into sports and physical power so, probably more sports medicine. They tend to be clumsy and get hurt a lot, not nearly as much as Sagittarius but still, they'd have medical exposure.
