So just to put perspective on the Ryu-Ge cards: The deck doesnt need ways to get you started, there are many ways, field spell, quick play, boss monster, normal summon herald, melody. The issues before the support were that: 1. The field spell was a huge ash and ogre chokepoint. 2. The boards it was making were hella mid, unless you play a whole sub engine with its own bricks just to get any amount of value out of the field spell being a generic search for 3 types. 3. The big dudes were not recyclable, so it was kind of a 1 time thing and its gone. These 2 cards fix 3 things, it makes the decks end board in pure much more unbreakable and layered, it protects your field spell from ash or ogre, so it makes it so that you pretty much have to ash the first thing and pray, since hts like imperm, veiler or nib werent really good to begin with, and it makes your dudes recyclable. The new pend is basically an "extender" in a weird way, for a deck that already plays weird. However, the deck still has yet to solve 2 issues that are ingrain to the engine since release, all the color names and continuous spells are bricks, you need to add a few bricks to make the field spell a starter and make your plays stronger as well, and now they want you to add 2 traps, and those are even more bricks. The deck also does nothing going second, its so over reliant on the field spell and when you cut it from the field the deck just crumbles. Overall, both cards are really really strong, but they simply cant fix the inherent issues related to the first wave of support. Similar to how decks like Vaalmonica simply cant fix their inherent issues with busted cards because the problem were the core theme of said cards. Cool deck tho
Once more it's been proved that the best way to get advice for a deck is to ignore the yapping yugituber that has never played it and go into the comment section for a bit of logical discourse. I agree with your analysis about the deck problem with the amount of bricks, do you think going up to 60 and using lots of boardbreakers would be the correct approach to try to make Ryu-ge work? That way you reduce the probability of opening bricks and improve going second
@@jonanderirureta8331it's best to play a 60 card version tbh. Especially with the new support. No matter if you're playing voiceless voice, swordsoul or dinos, a 60 card version with a lot of consistency and going second cards is the way to go. You don't worry about drawing all the useless cards and just play. It just takes good deck building as well
berry magician girl might be a funny tech in shining sarc now, cuz if the opponent tries to negate her with targeting handtraps like effect veiler or imperm, it will just trigger berry's other effect and summon this new DMG from the deck instead lmao, though if you get negated by ash instead, GG
Shining sarc having what 12 or 15 copies of sarc rather than 6 or 9 is a big deal, I think it'll be pretty rare to see a opening hand that can't get sarc now. Ofc it won't make the deck much more powerful but it will probably perform a bit better on average
@sammydray5919 yeah it isn't one I enjoy personally. But tbh so many Yugioh decks are super similar. This is the problem with life total being the only real way to win the game: you can only put your oppos LP to 0 so many ways.
At this point it is obvious that it is strategic on Konami's side. If they released at the same time they wouldn't be able to bump up the rarities of the good cards to make more money from TCG players.
I haven't actually played the game in a long time but if this changed I would genuinely be hyped to get back in. The discovery process is so fun and having it ripped away by the OCG getting cards before us just ruins it.
I would make an arguement of liking how it currently is, especially if the TCG exclusive pool keeps up The best examples are: Runick, where OCG really onlt played it as a stall deckout and we did as 20 instant fusions with bonus effs and draw 3s. Tearlament, where it wasnt until near TCG realease time that OCG tried to play them with Dangers and we did that but we also got Garura which changed its Spright matchup by a lot. Adventure Synchron, where it was a top tier deck that in reality was just mid. Idk, I just like to prove OCG duelists wrong, thats all
really wonder if the actual idea of the dominus cards is a deck that just doesnt run monsters. Or maybe Konami breaks out the Divine attribute for a singular boss monster
I love the Ghost Girls like Ash Blossom and Ghost Ogre, but low key I love that they're making Normal Traps start to taking their place. Breathes new life into traps and it starts to decentralize the game away from 99% Monster negates.
@TheMasterBlaze I especially like the deckbuilding restrictions. I hope that kind of design continues. Give various strategies more tools and staples rather than just add to the slop. It's awesome
@@prosamiswhat’s cool about the Dominus cards restrictions beyond creating a way to make generic non engine only for certain decks is that the Tri-attribute lock is snowballing torwards the ally and enemy color combinations that Magic currently does. I would love for more decks and card effects that are dual or tri attribute centered. The attribute locks of these cards and others is starting to create attribute identity in Yugioh to mirror what Magic has done even down to certain attributes get exclusive effects or can do certain things better than other attributes. Maybe this is the future of Yugioh.
I like Psalm of Kings in Traptrix. You have to be careful in some instances, but i think it can fit well. I already was thinking of ditching Ash altogether since Purge can lock you out of it, and this seems like a good replacement.
In pure traptrix, yeah this is really good. Now most of your traps do something going second (imperm, evenly, dominus, psalm) You lose arachnocampa/vesi access when you psalm, but that just makes mantis a worse normal, myrmeleo is still the best. May mean you'd prefer 3 pudica 2 mantis instead of other way around Some weird interactions emerge from this and deck building will be a bit strange, but impulse and psalm both being normal traps is so good
I think the Ryu-ge deck in general would've been good if they just added an extra line of text to the Continuous Spells, where on activation, after they resolve you can shuffle them back into the deck to add their respective monster, or a Dragon Ryu-ge. Where it stands now, if you draw any of the Continuous Spells or RGB monsters, you kinda just can't do anything with them. Tensei is really good for the deck, but it doesn't fix any of their actual problems. It just allows you to resolve your cards.
Psalm seems like it’d be nice in primite blue-eyes the deck already plays purge and has a really nice searchable trap that’s pretty easy to get in rotation. The restriction hurts a little for sure but besides going a turn without maiden you can basically play like normal which is nice cuz primite is just really grindy
lol this trap is amazing if your deck can squeak by with minimal (monster) handtraps and don’t utilize the grave/banishment much anyway. Pair this with the dominus type (based on attribute) that works for your deck for max value. For example Dinomorphia can run this easily (they do have monster GY effects, but that is only for floating something back when destroyed so not important) if your not running a Misc package which never was mandatory. Trap Lab can also utilize this as well. Trap Lab doesn’t use furniture. At most Arias is the only anti synergy, but even then not really since Arias can float back to field or you just do Arias turn skip line disruption and just use this as a normal set next turn. Also notable the trap negate DOES NOT target so way harder for opponent to dodge so it’s not even bad as a normal set. It’s honestly a decent 1 of with the Dominus types you are running. Honestly if your on Imperms, Evenly, these Dominus archetype card then you got a decent amount of turn 2 helpers
The new DMG can potentially be played with Toy Box. You can dump DMG with Magicians' Souls and revive it with Toy Tank. It's probably not good but its cool if nothing else.
The "if you have no monsters in your GY" on the trap seems like overkill we rlly slapped every single restriction on it💀 That basicly means you're running 2 dead cards unless u bricked or your opponent did (If you're even running it at 3)
Is insulation + search not good enough? It also summons itself, pops a card, and is a scale 11 if need be. It shouldn't take more than 1 read to see the value for this in a deck like Ryu-Ge, that hinges on their power cards resolving.
I really love the new waves of dominuses and psalm. While I love our most current handtraps (ash veiler imperm droll etc.) their one macro weakness is... they are super generic. You won't really put much consideration to play them, it makes decks have "similar interaction", while in ideal world if we get cards that has deckbuilding cost like these, we can have more varied decks in non engine part
I am not fully convinced by the design on that new trap card. It's a handtrap that searches another handtrap. We're now in the part of powercreep escalation where going second tools catch up to the combos.
Thing is, both the dominus traps also have heavy deckbuilding restrictions, those combined with psalm might be too much to the point where the card is too specific, not to mention to trigger its effect you need to already have used a imperm or one of the two dominus traps already.
@zander2758 regarding the second half of your comment, imo that isn't going to kill Psalm enough to make it not worth playing especially when you consider how often other hand traps don't get to trigger or your opponent plays around. But I am just a MD player so regarding the first part, I thought the Dominus trap restriction from the others is only a restriction on attributes you are allowed to special after trap resolves, is this not the case?
@@Pistolsatsean you cannot activate the effects of the types listed on the dominus cards, for example, if you use dominus impulse you cannot activate light, earth or wind monsters effect for the rest of the duel, this means you're basically locked out half the attributes and if playing those cards you need to cut out some cards from your deck for those conssessions, because for example, if you activate impulse you can't use droll or baronne, so people usually have to find replacements. With this in mind it means that it'd lock you out of half the attributes + locks you out of GY and monster hand effects including other HTs. Now don't take this to me i think it'll see no play, it will, but its not as easily put into decks compared to several other HTs so it'll be more specific.
@zander2758 Yeah that's what I thought the restriction was. And obviously that means in decks where you aren't playing Dominus because of those restrictions, you aren't going to be playing this. Tbh I kinda thought that was obvious enough it didn't need mentioning, in my initial comment I am taking about for decks that can slot in at least one of the pre-existing Dominus cards. The point is that in my opinion I think bricking on Psalm will happen about as often as bricking on any HT that isn't top tier, and because it can go +1 into a second HT that will warrant play. It seem like something that is so powerful it is worth the risk to me.
@@zander2758 Like I don't think it's impactful enough to cause a shift in the meta, but I think it is powerful enough to bring about Psalm variants of meta decks or potentially allow Psalm variants of lower tier strategies to move up the ladder
The dominus card is completely awful. Like Josh said, you have to play the other dominus cards for it to actually be decent. So you're restricted like those (or one of those if you only play one other) cards restrict you. You also can't use other monster handtraps as they're dead for the current or following turn, unless you use them less effectively so you can use this card after you've used them already. You also have to have a trap in your GY, so going second it will probably never be live without jumping through inefficient hoops. It literally only works in Stun without making huge sacrifices to your deck building and consistency.
