- Digital sculpting is easier than you think.
The thing that holds people back is not knowing how to start. I broke the process down in to five easy steps. I hope this inspires you to try some projects that you might think are above your skill level.

Sculpting Software: Nomad Sculpt
Concept art by: patrick.ganas?i...
I mean, that's the workflow allright. But people, if you just begun sculpting, expect your first few dozen characters to be nowhere even near this. You have to have solid anatomical knowledge, know your software, generally experienced in sculpting all kinds of shapes, and just develop the raw knowledge base needed for it.
There are no shortcuts in the end. But this video certainly clears up some workflow related questions, and thanks for that :)
Point two about this is having a powerful enough machine to even reach this amount of detail.
Of course you can make due with less dense meshes, but the more detail you can control, the better.
Hey thanks for this video! Just starting to get into 3d character work and this is a great workflow for guidance. The likeness is there from the original character for sure! Very inspiring and encouraging content 👌
Thank you for the kind words. I’m glad you enjoyed the content💪✨
this guys art is phenomenal. he has a beautiful painting style. you should link his socials in the description btw
Hey! I came because I recognized Patrick's art and I'm amazed by your 3D sculpture of the Djinn character! I love your control of the smooth hard shapes and you capture the likeness super well! Especially with the smoke, it's so incredible you were able to translate the trail in 3D space. Great work man! 😁👍
His art is amazing, I plan on sculpting more of his concepts. Thank you so much for the kind words and feedback. The smoke was tricky, but so satisfying having it come to life in 3D space. Thanks again💪✨
beautiful sculpt. thanks for sharing the work flow and process. you make it look easy.
You are too kind, I'm glad you enjoyed it.✨
Beautiful work, this is called a job well done 👏🏻
Thank you! Cheers!💪✨
DUDE! ur doing every thing right!! good music, good thumbnail, good beginning hook, good art, good mic/cam. u will get popular!!!! keep it up❤❤❤
Thanks so much💪✨ Means a lot. I'm stoked to share cool art and tell cool stories.
beautiful work, you inspired me with your workflow. Glad I found your channel.
Thank you so much, I’m glad you enjoyed it. Hope it helps 💪✨
Watching the beginning of the tutorial I was just thinking where are the thieves from OpenAI gutting our models and sculpts (god forbid that ever happens) and you put up this poster of Arnold the Predator vs. the Deal hand to hand combat and banter with AI hands and laugh.
Great tutorial. It was a lot of fun for me to watch.
and there is meaning in your words.
But I don't spare time and effort to do the "annoying" and boring things that raise nothing at work. I even love them. All this basic shape geometry is a very fun level to work on. For Bao's geometry inspiration: the first Playstation and PC games, especially Resident Evil and Sin 😁😉😛
Thank you for sharing your style.
I’m glad you enjoyed it. ✨
Amazing stuff, maybe a more detailed timelapse of the process could be a really cool video. Keep it up!
Thank you for the kind words and feedback. I’m trying to find the balance between how much of the process I show because it can get a little boring sometimes 🙈 I’m in an experimental phase with my video content rn messing around with the format to see what feels the most like me, and what is entertaining for a viewer. Thanks again, this was helpful feedback.💪✨
i cant believe you only have 464 suscribers, you will be one of the best artists there in the world and now you became my favourite
You’re too kind. Thank you✨
Im so lucky to have seen your video in my recommendations. Im certainly gonna keep this message to heart and strive forward >:D
looks really nice! abit more contrast in the colors, but sick sculpting, i especially like the part where you break the character down in forms, the study phase as you called it, thats a really good tip.. thnx for the breakdown of your process ^^
Thank you for the advice about the color. I'm glad you enjoyed the video ✨
Nice video Andy! appreciate the breakdown of your process, I think its good to chunk stuff out and do proper planning to try to reduce the amount you end up going "back" steps. Only thing Id say is the music is a lil too loud lol. Also, what application are you using for sculpting? I am new to 3d and have just been using blender but if I could use something on my Ipad (looks like you are at least) thatd be great since I already am on procreate a bunch.
Thank you for the amazing feedback. You’re not the first to mention the music🙈
I am using an app called Nomad Sculpt on my iPad. It’s such an intuitive experience using it and it’s a one time purchase, which is amazing. I’m not a fan of subscription based software. We live in a cool time where we can make 3D sculpts on tablets✨
damn ,can draw nice and sculpt ,cool
hope can learn like you doing
You can do it!!!💪✨
Gained a new sub! Love this, cuz I just started using nomad. Would be awesome if u did a tutorial on how u did some of the components because I have no idea how to sculpt hair
I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'll do a more in depth explanation for my next video.
You got this. Keep at it. 💪✨
Hello very nice video thank you for sharing but music is kinda loud
Thank you for letting me know. I will make sure to make it softer in the future.✨
New subscriber here! Love your content man🎉
Welcome! Thank you for the kind words. I’m glad you’re enjoying it💪✨
Cool video keep creating
thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it✨
Nice sculpt. Learning characters is definitely a labour of love :D
So worth it though!
💯it's so satisfying when you see the finished sculpt. Glad you enjoyed it.
I'm not actually familiar with this sculpting software. What is it?@@AndySZofficial
@@3dmutiny it’s a mobile app called Nomad Sculpt I use on my iPad✨
Hey, good video, could you make a video teaching how to blockout the character or a tutorial from scratch from nomad sculpt to creating the character or at least finishing the blockout? You explain well, keep it up!
Thank you so much, I'm glad you enjoyed it. ✨
I will definitely make a video going through the blockout process of a character. Thank you for the feedback and the video idea.💪✨
Hey man, great stuff!! I would love to know more on nomad sculpt and really liked your video! Maybe something on hard surfaces next? Or retopology? I beg.
Thank you so much for the feedback, I’m glad you enjoyed the video. I’ll add some hard surface prop videos to my list of projects.
I do have quite a few in the pipeline that focus mainly on characters/creatures so it might be a while🙈 stay tuned💪✨
@@AndySZofficial Damn, I'm afraid I'll have to (gladly) subscribe now. Keep it up!
@@dario8952 lol, thanks 💪✨
Super helpful video. Glad to be here before you can no longer answer comments.
lol, you are too kind. I’m so glad it helped.
💪✨
🎉🎉🎉🎉
I gave this video a LiKE cus you shop at costco --- MY MAN
lol 💪✨
Cononut Water sort of basic - but still good breakdown info - missing the Polygroudn for each part of the body because Art director may need changes, and you have to be ready ---- Again cooconut water? BASIC AF
Lol, basic but gets the electrolytes✨
Ya, those polygroups come in clutch. 💪
One thing i struggle with is when to go higher resolution and also when to remesh or start building subdiv levels. I also use nomad and blender. For example, in the refinement stage. What were you using?
It is tricky knowing when to go higher resolution. It took me a while to get the hang of it too. I am using Nomad for the whole process in this video. I'll talk about resolution, and how I approach it in my next video. The beauty of sub div levels is that you can go back and fourth in resolution if you don't bake them in, but a good rule to follow is, "do as much as you can in the lower resolution and add sub div when you need details that won't show up at current level." This was a good question, hope my answer helps.💪✨
Nice vid ❤
Thank you so much✨
this tutorial is short, but learned a lot!
I’m glad you enjoyed it. I’m working on a longer one focused on sculpting the face rn. It’s tricky making longer videos without them getting a little boring. 🤔✨
i think when people look for tutorials, as long as they learn something from it, they don't mind if it becomes "boring". i think too much unnecessary details could make it boring, but other than that i think it's all good. can't wait for that vid!@@AndySZofficial
Man, I know what I gonna say is out of context, but u look like Aphex Twin ( Richard D. James). Good video.
I don't know who that is😅
Glad you enjoyed it💪✨
What was the program you used in blockout stage where you seemed to drag presets?
I use Nomad Sculpt on the iPad pro for everything.
In that part I am using the shape keys via layers to illustrate a primitive shape turning in to a more complex shape.
In the block out did you have pre-built shapes?
I lost my footage of my blockout, so to illustrate me adding them in I used shape keys to make them appear.😅
More drawing if you can
With your blocking out, do you actually shape it in as low poly as possible as shown in your initial objects?
I keep it as low poly as I can for as long as I can. You can see more of my process in my latest video or the Cubone one✨
Hello Andy! I was wondering, is the blockout stage at 2:25 in blender or it is a different software ? Thank you very much!
Hey, I use Nomad Sculpt for the whole process. It’s a mobile app I use on my iPad✨
Thank you very much@@AndySZofficial !
I see 3d sculptors sculpting in freeroam mode while I have to go into the orthographic view to see how much I actually messed up XD
😂
Wow! Amazing work! The beginning you blocked out the shapes in color then when you were in the program they were in 3d from your drawing, what is the called? Does blender offer that? Seems amazing for getting shapes
I’m glad you liked it. When I did the blockout on the drawing I broke the character down in to those smaller pieces so I would know what the 3D parts would look like. Since they are all separate 3D shapes the software colored them in different colors. You should be able to do that in Blender. Most 3D softwares have that option 💪✨
What is the software used for sculpting?
It is called Nomad Sculpt. I am using it on my iPad
Really GOOD! what sculpting app do you use?
Just in case someone else wonders after watching this video. The program I’m using is called Nomad Sculpt.
you used a Yami reference therefore I will sub lmao
lol, he said it best 💪✨
noice man
💪✨Tysm
yo! its impressive and maybe working on more details before adding color would be great for your sculptures
Thank you for the feedback. I definitely will, for now I'm trying this more simple style while I get used to sculpting🙈💪
Really good video, if i may give a bit of feedback for the initial part of the video and the sections where its you in front of the camera. First off, the music is a bit too loud, it feels very overwhelming to have your voice, the echo from the room and the music all at once. Second, a slight zoom in on the shots really helps to make it more easily watchable. you just have a zoom in and then you reset after a cut. Also it would be beneficial if you move the camera a bit more way from your face, that way the viewer can see your hands and that makes more easy to relate and understand the body language you are using
hope that helps ^^
Thank you for the feedback.
Which application are you using?
Nomad Sculpt on the iPad
what are these softwares?
I am using Nomad Sculpt on the iPad Pro💪✨
Can you recommend a course to learn Nomad sculpt?
I don't know of any courses, but @SmallRobotStudio has a bunch of really good videos on Nomad sculpt. They helped me a lot when I first got in to it.✨
DADAN BROTHERS INC.
What device did you use?
I used an iPad pro and apple pencil✨
Nice. What software did you use?
Thanks✨ I am using Nomad Sculpt on the iPad Pro 💪
@@AndySZofficial Thanks for replying. Nomad Sculpt looks really good 👍🏼
@@knightingirlI got you💪✨
Ya, it's so cool to be able to have a great sculpting experience on a mobile app. Wild!
seeing videos like this both inspire me and make me feel inferior when it comes to making 3d sculpts/models... (I use blender)
It took me a long time to get here, don't give up. You got this 💪✨
@@AndySZofficial oh I was kidding for the most part lmao, so me giving up aint ever happening. im pretty decent at making models, but to the final level of where i want to be in terms of modeling, im gonna have to use the sculpt method then retopo which I aint the best at 💀
@@bifrostyeti it’s definitely a tedious process🙈
Thank you! but the music was a little loud it was hard to understand.
I know🙈 thanks for the feedback. Worked on fixing that in future videos💪✨
just need to stick some texture and that would be even better
Nome do APP
The app is called Nomad Sculpt
i saw pecs in the thumbnail so i clicked
lol
What!? I was expecting to see you going from blob to character, but the blob part was like nothing happened and suddenly there was a character there! 😕
The sculpting is just incredible but the colours looks a little bit off.
Still learning the colouring part😅 I usually sculpt for 3D printing and don't usually add colour for those pieces. I'm glad you enjoyed the sculpt
💪✨
the music in the video is too loud
Thank you for the feedback. I’m keeping an eye on my levels for future videos💪✨
It’s the crappy UI in every. single. sculpting app.
It’s fine🤷♂️
7:21 it's not the same character than the ref
I wanted see u block out lol
lol, just posted a video that has more of that process. Working on a detailed video showing process of a full character💪✨
7:14 That's the final result? You left out so many details plus the left forearm is too thin compare to the concept. You rotated the left hand. The bracelet's position is off, also the belt, the belly part has just the six pack outlined and the rest looks like a balloon.
You should spend more days into this and pay attention to the details and volumes.
i really wanted to watch your video but the music is too f.. loud man!!
Thanks for giving it a try🙈 I appreciate the feedback. I’ll make sure to keep an eye on the volume in the future💪✨
@@AndySZofficial i manage to watch the whole clip.thanks for your sharing.keep up the good work.
that is not a complex character bro
Valid
@Zedrart You know what really isn’t complex? Being nice to people. Ignore them, @AndySZofficial
This isn't a how to video, this is a "It takes a lot of work uhhhhh let me not show you my process at all and only small irrelevant snippets so I can plug a product at you and promote myself" video. Horrible for actually learning.
The modeling looks way too smoothened out though
What does it look like when it's rendered?
I'm not sure what you mean😅 the style I used for this sculpt is a lot smoother/less detailed than the reference art. Is that what you're asking about?
