    I advise everyone to read "A nation aborted : Rizal, American hegemony, and Philippine nationalism" by Floro Floro C. Quibuyen. In chapter 6, it discusses Rizal's concept of Filipino nationhood. I noticed that some of the discussion of Prof Chua in this video is from the said book.

    Practical nyang inexplain yung word na filipino not based on science pero genetically we came from different races

    • @erlinacobrado7947
      @erlinacobrado7947 8 місяців тому

      While partly correct, this is largely false. Genetic studies point to an overwhelmingly southeast Asian origin. Not only that, linguistics point to Austronesian languages, and even a common Proto-Philippine linguistic subgroup out of Formosa (now Taiwan) as discovered by Blust, Zorc and many other linguists. Not only that, the whole premise of your assumption is rather wrong, as all nations - by that I mean truly all - are founded on ethnolinguistic, historical and cultural association, not by scientific definitions. Ultimately, any nation today whether the United States formed by recent immigrants, or India, Germany and Russia formed by distinct tribal migrations and settling for thousands of years - all can trace from heterogeneity to homogeneity, from distinct parts to wholes. The nation as such is never simply given at the outset or born, but takes time.

    It always comes down to your loyalty! As Pilipino loyalty is always the issue, as a Pilipino are you loyal to Philippine alone? The problem is when a Pilipino has a pure descendant of Chinese or Arab, the loyalty to the country and to Pilipino people is always questionable. It's very important to know and accept the idea that if you are born and race in the Philippines, you are a Pilipino!

    • @denniscabubas1641
      @denniscabubas1641 2 роки тому

      Loyalty to Philippines can be measured in many ways as history showed. At Philippine revolt/ Katipuneros; loyalty means fighting, financial aids, logistical support to Katipunan itself as showed by Malay Filipinos & Chinese-Filipinos (Chinoys). Move forward to NOW; loyalty to this country doesn't always means joining rallies to bring down a current government or be an NPA. Becoming an OFW with your Remittances is a sure way of being loyal. It keeps PH economy alive. Most Pilipinos mistook "Pilipino" as a Race, It is not. It's a Nationality, a name given by the Spaniards. Malays is the majority racial type here (belonging to Austronesians) . Remember that Muslim-Filipinos rather be called this way, with emphasis on Muslim. DepEd should work harder, there's a disconnect in how Pilipino identify is being taught. #GunsGermsAndsteel #JaredDiamond

    The contemporary Filipino: a mixture of Austronesian, Chinese, Indian, Japanese, Arab, Hispanic and American. Both culturally and genetically. The concept of "pure" Filipino is a misnomer for even in indigenous societies like the Igorots, Aetas and Maranaos, the influence of outside forces is strong. Let's make the Igorot as an example, the Igorot of old (headhunter, wearing bahag, and animistic) is different from the Igorot of today because the latter has already been Christianised (Protestant), he wears jeans and he now loathes the headhunting practices of his ancestors.

      That's wrong haha
      It's more accurate to say Pasifikans are Asians
      Because Austronesians aren't Pasifikans , they came from taiwan & mainland china which is an asian country,
      Geographically we're asian, we don't have PASIFIKAN CULTURE AT ALL we have Similarities but we're more related to Indosphere .
      Pacific islanders are Melanesians , Polynesian etc we don't have any of it but genetically some fils can have poly blood but it's not enough to be considered islander by blood.
      Austronesians share commons , languages not genetics.
      If you'll say we're Pasifikans then you should also consider Taiwan, Indonesia, Malaysia

Karamihan kasi ng languages or ethnic groups natin ay hango sa katubigan. halimbawa, Iloko = look Maranao = Ranao, Danao, Subanon = Suba and etc. Ginamit ang salitang "Katagalugan" bilang Water Nation, Austronesian, Maritime culture. Wala itong kinalaman sa imperialism regionalism o kung ano man ang tawagin mo diyan. Ganda nga tawagin ang philippines bilang Katagalugan kasi "Land of the water people" tayo.
