never owned my own console, but some weekends I rented an snes, since the store worked weekdays only you could rent it on friday and return it on monday for the price of 1 day, I went 48 hours without sleep in those occasions
Yeah, that Asshole Ruined my Birthday that year. i ADORED Chaos "In the Arcade" i couldn't wait to play as him at home and do the Urine Trouble Fatality, only to see it taken out and a stupid "No" Sign pop up instead. absolutely DESTROYED the game for me. and i couldn't take it back, so i was just Stuck with it. one whole Birthday gift WASTED.
Been watching DYKG since I was a kid. I’m in college now. This channel helped fuel my love for retro gaming, and the videos have only gotten better since I started watching. Thank you guys.
I’m 13 but I have a love for retro gaming, my first system believe it or not was a Atari 2700. In my younger years (6-8) the only system I had was a 3ds. Needless to say I still prefer retro gaming and it’s basically all I play nowadays. I frankly asked my parents for a snes and I think I got it for Christmas, don’t know yet but it looks like it.
@@joshdoesnotadventure756 if you didn't get your SNES then look Into emulators. I have a Wii setup with emulators so I can play retro games on my TV and I can easily save 400+ SNES/Genesis/GBA games on it. It's much cheaper and makes it FAR EASIER to actually acquire those hard to find titles, like Super Mario RPG or Chrono trigger
These long compilations are great (not that each shorter video isn't). It's easy to forget all the stuff from older videos I've either forgotten or missed altogether.. And listening to over an hour of game facts at work is the best
I remember playing Super Mario Bros The Lost Levels for the first time on All Stars. I'll never never forget how destroyed my mind was when I first picked up the poison mushroom
The SNES was my first console. Ended up buying a lot of the games back on 3ds as I was too young to clear them or would get stuck. This brings back some nostalgia
Honestly love the dedication ppl put into preserving the history of forgotten games, must feel so honoring to be one of the developers and have ppl be so dedicated and curios about your game's story when you thought it would just be forgotten by time
The Snes just cant be beat. No console has given me so much enjoyment and good times. The games , the music, the graphics ! Everything holds up even to this day. Truly a master piece and an absolute work of art.
The SNES was always that “other” system I played when at friend’s homes. I always wanted one and was jealous I never had it. I then met my wife and she brought her SNES to join my Genesis. Haha We truely live in the golden age of gaming as we now have the SNES classic and can get games from different platforms to play whenever we want.
I've been a massive DYKG fan for years. It brings me much joy and calm to listen to you guys ramble about retro trivia stuff for hours on end. I like to watch this channel when I'm eating, cooking, about to go to bed, and more. I commend your efforts and wish you the best in the future.
I never owned an SNES myself, but I spent a lot of time at the houses of friends who did, so this console had a very strong presence in my childhood. To this day, Chrono Trigger remains one of my very favorite games of all time.
DYKG has been a channel I've come back to since I was litterally a kid, I always appreciate the work done here to bring video game history to the masses. Keep it up guys
It's great to see this kind of stuff being archived. Not just does it confirm and make me reminisce on rumors and ideas from when I was younger, but it also helps in future projects and concepts.
05:36 the first instance of game developers knowing that western parents hate cursing but don’t care about any violent or grotesque situations their children are exposed to in video games.
Thank you for all the years of great work and even greater entertainment ! I love having obscure video game knowledge that no one in my life cares to hear about
Never owned a SNES but played games MegaMan X, Starfox, and Yoshi's Island at a Target back in the day. And I played Link to the Past later on the Gameboy Advance which made my Zelda experience always a mobile style of gaming. Otherwise I never would've beaten that game or Link's Awakening on the Gameboy. Gotta love Nintendo's efforts to port all the classics over to the Switch so I can actually spend time completing them while on the road or in the air! Thanks for all of your fun facts DYKG! Been a fan for a while and hope to support your channel more throughout the years :)
Never got my grubby little mitts on an SNES, but it was a truly classic console. Even now, Nintendo is the grandaddy of modern gaming and is extremely respected by the OGs out there.
I love these videos! Very entertaining. The first thing I remember fixing was an snes controller. Some neighborhood kid yanked the cable out by accident. I was bummed thinking my folks wouldn't get us another one. So my 11yo self got a screwdriver and fixed it. That's how we did it back in the 1900s
FF6 is still the best FF game of all time. Story wise it just cant be topped. Chrono Trigger is still the most well crafted (and therefore best) game of all time. Super Metroid, Super Mario World. So much more..
I dunno if Liam Robertson is just very good at picking interesting games to talk about, or if his voice is just ultra-charming (at the very least, the latter is guaranteed true), but his videos always make me wish these games would've come out. EDIT: This comment was made before the "Hong Kong '96" part came up. I have no interest in playing that game. 😅
It's come to the point where I like watching facts about the games that I grew up with rather than play said games...... and I'm okay with that as long as DYKG continues to produce quality content like this.
As a long time fan of DKYG, I have been ever so happy with the content and loved the 1 hour videos that are great just to binge. Here's to many more and keep up the absolutely fantastic work. (Edit: I love the SNES so a lot of these facts were amazing to learn as well)
The SNES was the first system I grew up playing and I have so many fond memories of playing Yoshi's Island in the living room while listening to a Backstreet Boys CD and eating oatmeal with maple syrup....and the not so fond memory of Baby Mario cry for help that's been seared into my soul. 😩 It's interesting to hear how many initial plans were made for the game and we're changed.😮
I discovered that Earthbound exploit with the sound stone totally by accident on an early play through. AND the rock candy glitch/exploit the same way.
Nintendo should really reconsider making sprite based games ala nes and snes, or some game boy/advance and ds games instead of constantly release large costly games, and put out smaller side games like they tried doing in the 2000's. I think Sprite art can still work in modern times and having a mario or pokemon spinoff that still utilize sprites will do huge in the market right now.
I think if Nintendo put out that sort of game, people would expect the polish of their 3D-animated side scrollers at half the price, which is a losing prospect for Nintendo.
This channel is forkin rad. Been watching since I started university in 2012. Now I'm a med student and dykg still helps me decompress during a busy week! Keep it up!!!
I’ve never had a SNES, I grew up with a Wii and ds. But I still really love some of the games on there (thanks to emulation). Trivia is great as well. I’m currently making a rom hack, and this is the perfect video to listen to in the background. I usually just listen to music, but this is just as good. :)
@31:16, the Japanese Donkey Kong parody character "Dosoki Yungu" is not humourous because of how it similar it "sounds" in Japanese (it actually doesn't), but how it similar it LOOKS written in Japanese, similar to something like a WcDonalds or Starducks. ドンキーコング: do-n-ki-ko-n-gu ドソキーユング: do-so-ki-yu-n-gu In katakana (which you mistakenly called kanji in the Chrono Trigger segment), the characters for "n" ン and "so" ソ are really similar looking. It's kinda the same for "ko" コ and "yu" ユ
My favorite fact is the one about a link to the past potentially being named "ganon strikes back". That would have been a great name, especially at the time.
I’m 44 and still have my SNES. Around the time I picked up Zelda: link to the past, I also got NCAA basketball. I never liked college b-ball but the mode-7 effects were jaw dropping!
Nothing like playing a SNES at the foot of your bed in the dead of night.
This but with a DS!
How's your summer vacation? Good? Guud!!
also nothing like playing these videos at work to make days go by faster, or even playing them before bed to go to sleep 🤣
SMRPG kept me up for many nights back in the 90's
never owned my own console, but some weekends I rented an snes, since the store worked weekdays only you could rent it on friday and return it on monday for the price of 1 day, I went 48 hours without sleep in those occasions
The way the studio handled that mother in the primal rage segment was so satisfying! Literally what the ESRB is for!

That Hong Kong 97 game sure is... something.

I really miss the SNES days. I was born near the beginning of it but my limited firsthand experience in that era has been unmatched X3

I really like these long form mashup videos! Easy to put on in the background and not worry about picking another video in 10 minutes.
I was 11 when Earthbound released and 12 when Chrono Trigger did. Talk about right place right time…
I’m so thankful for this channel, always my go to to comfort me when I’m alone or feeling anxious.
All the great Enix games like Actraiser, Illusion of Gaia and more! I wish Square would have kept some of Enix’s properties going when they merged.

Didn't know they had the SNES back in the 1900's did the troops in WW I play SNES, or were they Sega fanboys?
Damn I love the SNES. It's aged incredibly well and is one of the best consoles for RPGs
For jrpgs it's alright but for proper rpgs it sucks

I found a copy of SNES Primal Rage at GameStop when they were first opening. Was $5, I jumped on it
Some of these games I never had the chance to play. Now I have a list of stuff I have to play. Good video.
I love dykg and really enjoy these hour long videos for something to play in the background
I loved the SNES, although I never owned one myself. I used to play a ton with my step-brother's. I miss how simple and fun games felt back then.
Love how stubborn Miyamoto is when it comes to his vision in games. "I still think my idea was better." Lmao.
Love these 1 hour videos. Helps me study for my exams weirdly!
This channel is what fueled my love for retro games! Keep up the amazing work!
Love putting on DidYouKnowGaming in the background while working and making DND campaigns so sometimes my players get some game easter eggs
Thank you for the nostalgia overdose :)
Thanks for the trip down memory lane! Lots of amazing memories that I hope I can give to my little one.
This will work fine for my treadmilling tonight. Thanks, DYKG!
Honestly, a lot of the music from the SNES era just hits different
Hong Kong 97 is actually one of the greatest things I've ever heard of.
Wow you guys haven't had a video in a while. I'm glad its an SNES video as its one of my Favorite Consoles of all time!!!
That Hong Kong 97 game looks quite interesting. I'm glad you guys did a deep dive on it. What a trip!
First fact off the bat is so fascinating to me. What I'd give to have access to those internal use-only prototypes of iconic Nintendo games.
Always love hear about some gaming facts that can be quite obscure, plus the longer videos here are much nicer to sit an listen to.
Hearing chrono trigger’s OST in the intro makes me feel nostalgic.
I am so glad you guys make videos! It is great for the preservation of video game history!
I love listening to these on my way to work. Y’all should do pod casts

The SNES was one of the first systems I have owned that I did not have to share with my siblings. So many great memories.

I still LOVE "A Link to the Past". One of my all time favorites simply because of the Dark World theme!
I was 8 or 9 and yeah,it blew my Richard off. Classix
Agreed! I LOVED the dark world so much and always looked forwarded to it
This brings me so far back! Love this whole video!
Also, the music from Earthbound was so amazing.
I feel like the snes has aged the best of all retro consoles
Wish I had a chance to have an SNES when I younger, but I'm glad that all these games are super accessible now!
