Agreed! However, the movie you see now is cut to pieces, two of my favourite songs were completely cut out. That is Progress is the root of all evil and oh happy day, plus, part of The country's in the very best of hands and the matrimonial stomp have been cut to pieces, almost half of those songs gone. 😢 I'm so glad I kept the record.
WOW! I haven't heard this song in at least 40 years, but I never forgot it. Sir Graves Ghastly used to play the part starting around 1:38 each week for his "You've Past Your Prime" club on TV. Viewers would send in their photos and ages and he'd show them while this played. Some of the "past prime" viewers were really old, others were hilariously young! It was so much fun. I had no idea it was from "Lil Abner" - I just figured it was one of the Spike Jones records he occasionally played. Happy memories!
This has always been my favorite song from the musical. We performed this my Sr Hi play. 45yrs ago last month, I'm past my prime. What I use to do all night and day. Now takes me all night to do. 😆
In doing my family tree research, I just found out last week that the gal actually doing the singing, Imogene Lynn, was my cousin. I had lunch with her brother Max last summer. He just happened to mention her in an email yesterday. I had no idea, pretty cool. You can actually see Imogene in another You Tube video by searching using "Imogene Lynn - Big Boy". She is singing with the Ray McKinley Orchestra.
We proposed "Lil Abner" as our senior play (high school). The principal vetoed it because of this song and the costumes. Today, this would be considered tame.
It was the first high school production I "teched", mainly lights and backstage during the shows. And yes, "Put 'em back (the way they was)" was considered a bit risque' for our school...
At least they haven't cut this song to pieces, or cut them completely out, like they've done with the DVD you can get now. Two of my favourites are completely gone, oh happy day (the scientists song) and progress is the route of all evil (General Bullmoose's song). Glad I still have the original soundtrack on record with all of it there. Songs that had chunks cut out are The country's in the very best of hands, Jubilation T Cornpone and the matrimonial stomp. So disappointing!
Relatively easy. If you're a member, at the top of your channel, just click upload and follow the instructions. It's pretty self-explanitory. Hope this helps.
leslie parrish is my cousin my family never new where i got my voice then when we found out she was part of our family then they new where i got my voice!
What is the reason that Daisy Mae wears a different color top in the second act of every performance of Lil' Abner? And why is it always pink and blue, when she usually wore a green top in the strip?
1. Stubby had two great performances in the 1950- this and Guys and Dolls. I used to look forward to him being on the game show Stump the Stars. He was great at charades. 2. You can't write this type of song today as the pronounciation in a good portion sounds like the stereotype used against Blacks. It would have to be cleaned up.
This girley is quite good in this role of daisy mae...but I think I prefer the role better played by Martha O"Driscoll...from the 1940's t/v show lil abner ...b/c her beauty didn't over shadow the behavior of dasiey mae being a desperate man trapper of Abner.. this girls good looks make ya say why on earth would she even want lil abner's mountain boy country butt..
Very superficial view of Capp's material and typical of what you find on MySpace. You're obviously unfamiliar with Capp and don't "get it." Capp made many political statements here which have obviously gone right over your head.
The best adaptation of a comic strip in cinema history.
Leslie Parrish was absolutely slammin'. Mercy.
What you got left over is more than what most folks start out with.
No Sam... I looked in the mirror this mornin' and there's no doubt about it: my good years is gone...
That "you is pushing 18" line really made me laugh. I have a friend 20 years my junior who is like this. Great song.
That musical is so underrated..so of the lyrics are hysterical
Lyrics by the great Johnny Mercer!

I'm so glad I kept the record.
Leslie Parrish was such a beauty, and Stubby Kaye is one of the best musical comedy actors ever, especially in this and Guys and Dolls.
This musical needs to be better known! It's really great!
That lady is spectacular.

Sir Graves, your a fellow 70’s-80’s Detroiter!
This has always been my favorite song from the musical. We performed this my Sr Hi play. 45yrs ago last month, I'm past my prime. What I use to do all night and day. Now takes me all night to do. 😆
I’m 17 last spring, my friend sings this to me all the time
Fantastic song, score, stage musical and movie musical.
One of the best on screen Duets ever. I defy anyone to name 3 that are better.
I love this song so much! my community theater is performing this play this summer and I got the part of daisy mae... i'm so excited!!
Best film adaptation of Daisy Mae in my opinion.
I picked it up by accident a few years ago. It's AWESOME!
"What you've got left over is more than what most folks starts out with." Haha!
This is a good song - I've never heard it before and I thought I knew all of Johnny Mercer's songs
me too...I love movies from this era...the best!
Stubby Kaye is a great performer!
"Just look at this physique," she says. I don't have to be asked twice.

In the first performance of Li'l Abner, according to the vocal score, Mammy Yokum was played by Charlotte Rae (Mrs. Garrett).
This movie has the best lines ever! Hilarious!!
we did this musical my freshman year. and it was great!!!
i'm in lil abner right now as daisy mae!
One of the bast musicals ever.
He was perfect in Guys & Dolls. He just seemed like Nicely Nicely Johnson. Haven't seen Cat Ballou though.
Love this movie! =)
Just did this show! I was Speedy McRabbit! :)
I did Speedy 45yrs ago last month. I had 2 best lines in the whole play. RHS C/O 75 . GO KNIGHTS
She's the purtiest thang I ever seed...:)
Gorgeous lady.
lovely, first time I have seen this .
STUBBY KAYE IS GOD!!
She was on an episode of the original Star Trek. I believe it was the Apollo episode.
I agree about THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE, but believe it or not, that is Leslie Parrish's singing.
I'm in Two Rivers. Very small fishing village. Nice place, though. Very laid back.
our school is doing this musical this year and we r watching the movie too
Yay!! Thank you so much!
Wow! Some people will do ANYTHING to keep from being in a movie. :D
Seriously, I didn't know that. Thanks!
This is such a cute musical! I love techinicolor muscials. :]

There are also excellent videos on UA-cam of him in Guys and Dolls and Cat Ballou with Nat King Cole.

Wish this film was out on dvd or shown on tv or something. Such a classic.
you can buy it on amazon on dvd
Rick Wake for like, $80 though. My dad has a copy, and I love tbis movie and wanted to order one, but this version is sooo expensive....
That's Leslie Parrish (singing voice: Imogene Lynn) along with Stubby Kaye.
Congrats!
I need those pants!!!!
Okay, I have a crush on the guy that’s plays Sam in my theater guild. Daisy sits on his knee at the end and 😔🙃
just lovely! please post "namely you"!! this video is impossible to find here in Brazil!
Know how she feels
Will do.
What a great physique! I bet Stubby must've worked out.
Trying to perfect that unique pear-shape.
As of 2023 Leslie Parrish is 87
thanks! :)
DAISY MAE : Looks good in her ATTIRE .
Relatively easy. If you're a member, at the top of your channel, just click upload and follow the instructions. It's pretty self-explanitory. Hope this helps.
Very attractive woman
@slave2moonlight ....agreed! the only reason I've seen it is cause I accidentaly stumbled on it one night on TV
lol she's only eighteen! CD
Beautiful! But I wish Edie Adams had done the film version, too!
Hollywood didn't think pretty edie Adam's was photogenic enough.
wasnt he also the host of Shennagins kid show?
she married the great writer richard bach
@VandalStork I'm right with you, brother!
It bugs me that streaming video services don't carry this movie...😢
I think I can do just that, but I can't promise to do it soon. It might be a couple of weeks.
leslie parrish is my cousin
my family never new where i got my voice then when we found out she was part of our family then they new where i got my voice!
Edie Adams did not play Daisey Mae in the film version.
I do apologize to you and Ms. Lynn. Send her my deapest admiration, and tell her I love her singing for the cartoon "Red Hot Riding Hood."
Parrish looks better than she did in a Star Fleet uniform.
Seriously!!! I think she had just as good a voice as the other musical talent out there, but musicals were on their way out. Pity.
Hubba-Hubba!
What is the reason that Daisy Mae wears a different color top in the second act of every performance of Lil' Abner? And why is it always pink and blue, when she usually wore a green top in the strip?
@VandalStork they are also revered for their intelligence rather than their looks
Anyone hace the film version of Jubilation T cornpone?
How did the musical go? What part did you play? Can you post a UA-cam video of it?
@lp4ju Same here, actually!
What key is this sung in?
Good luck!!! (or rather "Break a leg")
Can you upload "Put 'em Back" from the movie? It seems that no one has it up, so please? Pretty please? :)
it is on you tube now. I love that song
He sure is! He does bare a resemblance to Buddha ;)
Aint it the truth bae?

G
Love this. But Edie Adams did it best.
Namely you has been posted. Check my channel.

No offense to the lovely Leslie Parrish, but they should have kept the delicious Edie Adams from the Broadway play to play Daisy Mae.

Thanks, Cap'n LitCrit.
