- I compared my regular coolant to a well-known performance product called "Engine Ice".
In my opinion, the safest bet is to use whatever the manufacturer recommends in their manual. They’ve done the testing and know the chemicals better than anyone else. Same goes with Oil!
BTW: I don't typically change my coolant 2-3 times per year. I only did this year for testing!

In my opinion, the thermostat is the device that regulates the temperature. Yes coolant is a part of it, but if the thermostat is removed, your bike will run cold using only water.
Removing the thermostat increases the flow to a point it hasn't the time to cool in the rads. If you remove it you need to install a restrictor to slow the coolant down.

It doesn’t regulate the temperature like a refrigerant (air conditioner)
It simply opens once the engine is at operating temp. (Its a doorway so to speak)
Meaning it is no longer isolated from the radiator.
If its always open,the engine simply takes longer to warm up due to the radiator not being isolated from the start.
Operating temp is still the same .
And a vehicle will overheat with just water due to other reasons
(Lower boiling point,less heat transfer)
@@myname9252 wow you have no idea what you're talking about. It's not just a "doorway". A thermostat IS a regulator and it does exactly that! The spring changes with temperature. If you're driving during the day when its hot and it gets much cooler at night itll change its position. Its not an open or close it's a regulator. Amazing how most people have zero idea what they're talking about

@@viktoriyamalavola6041 You have no idea what you talking about.. go put a thermostat in a pot full of water and heat the water on the kitchen.. see how it open and closing.. its always open fully when its times to open, not open half the way.. so its not regulate the temp.
Engine Ice has great marketing. People want to believe there’s some sort of liquid you can put into your bike to make it run faster or better. But there isn’t.

My bike runs at the typical Yamaha of 220 idle,178-190 highway.
Ill be testing this out myself.
I do want to note I just bought the bike,which is an 06,and is on its original coolant.
But a friends bike runs about the same and his is a ‘16.

Engine Ice won't kill my dog. That's why I run it. Worth every penny. Was draining my coolant in my garage one time, and my roomy let my dog in, and she literally ran right to the bike and tried to start drinking it. In my car, that I never need to work on, sure, in my bike that I drain in my garage from time to time, not thanks. That said, I first tried it for engine cooling. Never noticed a difference in any riding condition, from hard enduro, to whatever. Is engine ice hype, I think so. They do say it won't kill you dog on that label, so at least that's straight.

Video suggestion:
Compare temperatures with old coolant and new coolant, with the cheap/normal one you usually use.
Water wetter works good too. I run it in my ZX6R a little prestone and distilled water mix is great in the hot hot weather!
I just started using this product myself and I have to say, being around it for a little while it seems to work well. It’s not an end all be all product but it does help, especially hours into a slow, muddy ride or when hill climbing, even though it’s usually a couple degrees it definitely seems to help. We’ve used them in 250s, 450s, 2 strokes, 4 strokes, racing fourwheelers and a 2000s and a 2010s utility and seen some level of improvement with them. It’s not as good as the hype suggests but we are also in a very humid environment, which might change the results compared to your tests. But it is great to have people go out and record date and test these products. But I’d say for slow grueling rides, it helps reduce cooling times and my fan doesn’t kick on nearly as often anymore, it used to run constantly and now it kicks on in about 10 min to 20 minute intervals
There are 2 big features, 1. not toxic, won't kill your dog or kid. 2. Most tracks require you to use either straight water, or propyl glycol antifreeze. Ethyl Glycol is extremely slippery if it gets on the asphalt surface of the race track. Propyl glycol doesn't do that.
I have a trx 450 er and we were out on a riding trip, my fan quit working and atv started running hot, buddy had some engine ice and we drained my radiator and filled with the engine ice, we finished the weekend out riding without a fan and my Atv never over heated. I’m getting ready to switch my 21 Honda Rubicon over to engine Ice
I run pro honda hp coolant and it works perfectly. Tried engine Ice and was not impressed... lesson learned, stick to the manufactures recommendations. They know their machines better than anyone.
In Indonesia, this product really recommended so much but i doubt that too if it's can reduced more than other liquid and yes i agreed if it's too pricey.
I just got some I just got a new bike but I haven't gotten a chance to take it to the track yet but I've heard good things about it you don't have to mix nothing with it
I notice bike runs a little cooler by 7 degrees colder then it will.
I tried this stuff once but I kept having other cooling issues so it kept leaking out and I finally got sick of paying so much for it and went to generic coolant, I may try Toyota red coolant next time I got to change coolant just because it’s not as corrosive as others

using engine ice is for my quad the best, changed to g12+ and direct problem on the cap opening, presure gets to high, did running perfect for years on engine ice so i will go back
I was riding with a guy a few weeks ago, he was on a 05 ktm 430exc, as soon as we hit the first log crossing the bike boiled over. As I was helping him drag his bike over the log I noticed he had his radiator louvers installed backwards lmao, I flipped them around and no issues for the rest of the day
Oh wow, 😆 I’ve made the same mistake before but never had an issue or noticed anything. Didn’t know they could have that large of an impact. Very interesting!
I saw one comment suggesting removing the thermostat for more accurate testing, i also would like to ask if you flushed the radiator prior to running these tests? corrosion inside the radiator can limit its ability to transfer heat considerably.
Yes, I did flush the radiator with 50/50 Distilled White Vinegar and Distilled Water prior to putting in the Engine ICE.

I have not. Ever since installing a radiator fan, all heating related issues went away.

This product costs 10 times more than Motul Inugel, which I use generally.
I would stick with Red Line wetter water.
Theres no reason to change coolent that much.
Straight water is the best coolant. Problem is it does not protect metal and the boil point is to low. All one needs is a cooling system that is in good shape, clean and proper jetting. A fan is the biggest improvement you can add.

No its not,water boils at 100deg,coolant can boil around 130deg c
Oh yea bro, my coolant really has helped me carve those corners and make that massive tripple jump that everyone is afraid of... Other than that smart ass comment the one thing I will say is that I loved my bike soooo much that I was always so proud of everything I did to keep it in great condition and I used this product - so watching this video I was in suspense, was I proud for nothing or... oh well!
So - Should I peel that company sticker off of my fender now? JK but this was very interesting - did it work, looks like yes, does it matter? Good question. I say do everything you can to keep your bike in top shape, even if it is only a fraction of an improvement. Clearly though this product will likely not solve an overheating problem, etc... but for your regular bike, I say go for it still. Cheers
Well said! You're the first person who noticed that stupid smart-ass comment of mine 😆 I would have done things differently knowing what I know now, but it's always fun to look back and read the comments. Buy whatever makes you comfortable! It's hard to put a price on peace of mind.

I generally disagree with your advise for people who ride hard - Engine ICE is far superior (offroad). Sorry - I ride WV mountain climbs, slower woods, thousands of miles stressing the bike to its limit of traction (and no fans on the 2 stroke old school). OR I ride Florida heat in deep sugar sand and not much wind at 100F at times. With oriely stuff my KTM 300 would puke out half of the green coolant per ride - and the stuff is toxic dripping in the trailer, spraying onto pants, and then the potential of overheating. swap to engine ice - get outflow on extreme use 1/50th as frequently in only peak heat/stress followed by standing still waiting extended periods. with a rotax canam ATV having thermo fans - the engine ice almost never kicks on fans versus the factory stuff its on ALL the time in the mountains once I idle/slow down. For WV and FL - engine ice is a must. both of my riding areas are higher humidity, which might also affect your heat transfer equation... Im very jellous of your desert riding area nearby.... sounds great. but, if your on-road with air flowing Id say its not as much stress and Id guess its not worth the extra - that I agree with. repeat the test with your fans off and you might find they are not needed as much with ICE. The 10-20 degree drop on ice allows your coolant system to breathe easier. Also Im at a 5 year change interval on the CanAm and 7 year on the KTM now - thats kinda crazy to me thinking about changing coolant every few months. you are probably getting the initial high-function life constantly on the $14 junk - but Im here to say the Ice remains in there 3 times as long and hasnt degraded when I remove it. I just got the KTM out of storage, couldnt find my Ice, and used some Audi-porsche G5 pink (no silicate) coolant I had left over- it seems to be a good in-between. but when the new rings go in I will refill with ICE. I absolutely hate the smell of the green anti-freeze.
Hello Tony! I appreciate the comment and you bring up some good points. My testing was too narrow and short term for a reliable and fair conclusion on this product. There are many different variables that can affect the benefit of EngineIce like you mentioned: riding style, environment, terrain and maybe even the type of machine. I should have disconnected the fan and experimented in tough singletrack.
I sold the KTM a few months ago and picked up a used Honda. When I went to the dealer to replace the basic fluids, a mechanic saw me at checkout with EngineIce. He suggested I use the Honda HP Coolant instead since he had overheating problems with EngineIce. It was a Honda Fluid and my bike is a Honda so I decided to take his word. I find it interesting that different people have different experiences. The reviews online show that as well. Everyone experiments and does what works best for them. I don't like to judge people on their choices because there are so many variables.
Luckily, I have had zero problems with the Honda coolant in singletrack or any other conditions. My bike also doesn't have a fan and it never boiled over. It sounds like you do more hardcore riding than me so this story could be different. I still believe a fan is smart to have when riding in the technical bits. 💯agreed I switched to engine ice 🧊 and I really don't see a big difference! Actually in a lot of cases I run warmer then my buddys.
