Used to live in London and frequently return to visit. Traffic is unbelievable because city planners never got beyond thinking of it as a small town. Now they have 6 lane stroads through residential areas and yes, railroad tracks everywhere. And still no ring road or bypass for cross town traffic, although they have the Highbury 'expressway' 😂 Back in the 80s they were talking about a ring road but nope.
London was warned in the mid-sixties to build overpasses, underpasses and ring roads. No one listened. I remember Adelaide St. over or underpasses being discussed back then. We pay the price now for past indifference and ignorance.
It makes no sense that starter homes (sub 2000sq/ft) in Canada are going for $500,000+ in 2nd rate cities. That $400,000 crackhouse for sale in London makes no sense. Even in Toronto it would not make sense, but in Toronto it would be $1.2 million. Canada needs to build out 5 million new starter homes so that young people and new immigrants can afford to start a family/life in this country. The average Canadian home should drop from $700,000 to $200,000. This would wipe out trillions worth of paper wealth, but at least people can buy homes again.
the drugs are so bad,a few years ago two people from like the red cross or something(i dont remember) came to my door(im not like a nurse or doctor or anything in the medical field) and asked if I wanted to learn how to give a life saving injection if I ever come across someone overdosing. It was honestly the scarest "visitor" i ever had..I got the training though. Three people in my building died in the past year due to overdose and one was found in the elevator hanging onto his life..im not sure what the outcome of that was. I'm not even really in the bad part of the city..it's a housing building, but it's in a decent area..high end compared to most places
London is a good place for estabished middle class in the GTA area for family raising as it has the 3rd largest schoolboards, cheaper everyday livings and much better housing amrket compared to GTA regions (well at least pre 2022). It's really not for younger folks who are just starting life, that's why I've met so many people from here, who left in their 20s, and then moved back in theri 30s or 40s
Just to put the railway thing into perspective… the Great Western Railway opened from London to Windsor in 1854 so we’re going on 200 years now. The railway overpass on Platts Lane and Wharncliffe dates back to 1931, not sure about Hutton (Wonderland) Road. I grew up in the area and the homes near Oxford and Hyde Park were built in the 60’s. So yeah there has been lots of time for London to build overpasses across the city but they only exist west of Downtown. When a train does cross it tends to be a cargo train of 200+ cars and going very slow so you could be there for 30 minutes.
lol - not sure how this popped up in my feed, but I am a Londoner so I gave it a watch. Our first home was in White Oaks and now we are in Oakridge, but once we become empty nesters I'm liking Sarnia as a downsize. I'll have to see if you have a pros and cons video for that area. I think you hit on lot of important points, but I'm surprised you only named the railway crossings as the big traffic headache, as I would tip my hat to city council for creating an absolute disaster in the core and now Wellington Road/Hamiliton Road area with both directions down to a single lane. Meh, that's my rant atleast. Cheers
So, comparing Old London to New London is fair... I mean, when I was a teenager, Sunningdale was still rural and in fact, I used to have my horseback riding lessons out that way. Also, since C19 hit, London has faced increases in the rental market up to near 33%. It's not just drugs that cause homelessness. Disabled people are no longer able to afford both rent and food with their social assistance benefits - an individual on ODSP currently receives a max amount of $1368 during a time where one bedroom apartments START at $1400 per month, in places you so very much love like Kipps Lane. One reason is the huge reduction of social housing (the most ghetto of the ghettos, right?). In the late 90's, there were nearly 110 sites that the City of London managed; there are now only 33 sites, with a waiting list of well over a decade. So yes, there is a homeless problem but it's not exclusive to crime, illicit drug use, or the opiod crisis. If I were to be renovicted, I would effectively become homeless due to no fault of my own because I simply cannot afford rents in a historically cheap city (in SW Ontario).
EOA is a family gang that has been in London for like 30 years! with that being said not everything east of Adelaide is a ghetto or a Hood the neighborhoods you need to stay away from!!!! Kipps lane, hilton Ave, Allen Ave, limberlost, pond mills, some parts of South Dale, Simcoe and Horton, Maitland and Hamilton, H-BLOCK which is highbury and Huron, Oakland Ave, bollee, cheapside, some parts of whitehills, some parts of whiteoaks, parts of Westmount, basically every end of town has some form of housing that has gone to shit.
It's not just London, these problems are all over Ontario. This is becoming an epidemic throughout north America. The world we live in is turning to shit.
The homeless issue is growing everywhere for sure. Your country isn't good health when most of your cities are strugging with homeless and drug addiction
Does London have a higher concentration of poor people than other Ontario cities? I spent 9 years in the Chicago area and railway crossings are everywhere. You get used to them.
I think it has a higher concentration than Kitchener/Waterloo … but probably on par with most. I get a lot of people reaching out to purchase homes here because they are less expensive than other areas of Ontario - but the need to know a large part of the city, where a lot of these homes are , are rougher areas
you clearly have never lived eoa I owned a home for 24 years raised my kids there paid my house off in 5 years my kids walked to school high crime no not really you drove by my house never had issues and sold my house for 5 times what I paid for it
People in the north and west parts of the city are always posting videos on Nextdoor of people checking car doors at night. IMO, your video continues stereotyping areas of this city that are trying to improve. Not a good look for you. And there are a lot of people who cannot afford houses in the $700,000+ range. @@ryancrits-londonontariocan4732

Are there many drug addicts in London, Ontario?Or is it a low-income neighborhood? And isn't it a good choice to go to London from Korea to study there? If not, why?
London is a big city with several different neighborhoods- other videos on this channel will go over the good neighbourhoods and bad neighborhoods. I recommend you watch them to get a better idea. UWO and Fanshawe are world class schools, I think you will really like it here. If you go to UWO, renting near the university will get you a safe quiet place! Downtown there are more homeless and yes there are drugs, but again… you will won’t see that in your neighborhood near the uni

@@lightwave9588 I am in London and am NOT racist. I confront racism whenever I can but do agree with you that their are low life racists here. The killing of a Muslim family last year was disgusting but a huge part of the city came out to show their support of our Muslim community
That was my 1st shock when I returned to London in 2005… my Dad worked for the City for 30 years, just before he retired they went from 5 days to 6 days for garbage pickup. I grew up in London and had been in Mississauga the previous 5 years before. It’s every 4 days there, so we went from sometimes 2x per week to sometimes no garbage pickup, and worse around Stat Holidays Also, once when I was in High School I had to take the bus from Adelaide / Oxford on a Sunday afternoon. It took me awhile to figure it out, but there was no service after about 4pm for the Oxford East bus, so I had to walk to Richmond to get the Oxford West. Had no $$ just bus tickets 😆
We moved to Ontario street apt. sight unseen. Just wanted to try out the city. It was full of party people, all night, drug people, and fire works outside the window late. We got bed bugs there, eating me all over my body. We broke our lease, and went up north to my husbands parents for the summer. Then got accepted for geard to income housing on Limberlost road. Been here for 12 years. Really like it here. we are on the edge of the complex, so not to much noise. We can afford it, as my husband is on a pension. Can't imagine paying 500,000 for a house. If you can go for it, but us we are fine here.

Thought on Chelsea Green area? Specifically Alexandra st.
