This is so cool Austin! I find it hard to find licks on UA-cam that are easy enough to learn and that allows you to fool around with them, especially for learning how to improvise on the fiddle!👌

Have you tried the National Fiddler Hall of Fame lick(s) of the week? When I started bluegrass, these were helpful.

Thank you! The key is to find licks that are not key specific- often times people show or teach fancy moments in a tune rather than one that serves across multiple keys - I always look to present "All purpose licks" first in my teaching

@@AustinScelzoAbsolutely, I’m mostly playing banjo at the moment but I really want to reach that point when I can fool around with some “all purpose” licks. Great video Austin😁

@@64bluegrassNo I haven’t, but I probably should take a look at it. I haven’t played fiddle for a long time and mostly learn by ear, but i can read a bit. Thanks for your suggestion 😄

Nice work! Thanks. I've found backup playing actually a little harder than a regular solo break. I fall into the same phrases. Need more variety.

Totally- it's an under practiced skill for a lot of folks. All the books teach are solo breaks when in reality, 80% of what you're doing is backup in a jam/band setting!

Are all the licks ending on the 1 note of the chord?

Thank you! If I may ask, what kind of fiddle are you playing? It looks like a Jonathan Cooper.
