    Hi MrAdams
No this technique is for when the stitches run parallel on either side!
if you have a cover with pre-made holes i recommend the cross stitch method in my other vid.
    i hope this helps
    cheers john

    Hi Lancelotknt,
I glue the leather on and usually leave a gap around 1/8th of an inch so when its sewn it will take up the gap and pull tight with no puckering.
    thanks for watching cheers john

I use bonded nylon size 36 very strong and rot proof if your after something thicker that really stands out size 20.

    Hi John
I recently did a steering wheel on an old Bentley that had the finger grooves all the way around i simply just measured the smallest girth (where fingers go on wheel NOT the point) and made mine from that.
Then i only glued the outer edge of the wheel so it leaves enough stretch in the leather to get the joins together at the points of the finger grips.
    cheers john hunt

Hello John. Isn't this internet great for sharing and learning a variety of things? I will soon be applying a leather steering wheel cover and was looking for ideas as to how to stitch it, thus, your videos. You have several I see of various stitching patterns. I see your running your needle through existing stitching to create your pattern, would it be basically the same technique on a steering wheel cover that comes with existing holes for stitching rather than stitches in place?

John, The wheel from my 86' Chevy project has finger grooves, top and bottom where I intend to lace. How would I account for this. Also I plan on doubling under the ends to hide them. Any recommendations?

One more question, while my machine has leather needles, it is a consumer model and I want to avoid waxed thread. What type of thread could you recommend?

The best video I have seen so far on this technique, But I heard a tip from another video that said to fold the fabric in half first and run it through your machine on a straight stitch with no thread in the machine. This will leave mirrored wholes on both sides of the fabric and make it a easier and cleaner looking job.

Hey John, Love your videos and work. I am covering a metal flask in leather. I want to stitch both sides for a more designer look. Any idea which stitch would be best, or is it just a personal choice? Thanks.

I am going to give #92 T90, a try as your suggestions fall between T80 and T135. While T70 is regularly the largest thread non-industrial machines can handle, having experience, I believe that my machine which says it does leather/canvas can handle the thicker thread-size. Going to check with my local shop today. Thank you!
