Basically, the life of Christ in us will change me and produce the character of Christ moment by moment. Of course I cooperate. But with the grace that is in me. Not by gritting my teeth and white knuckling my way to the character of Christ.

    Dallas Willard’s message,
    in a nutshell:
The Gospel is not JUST about forgiveness of sins, though that is essential.
The gospel is: “The Kingdom of Heaven is at hand “
That the Kingdom of Heaven is available to you, right here and right now, right where you are!

Thank you for posting this series AND for posting Bill Dwyer's notes. FYI - The notes marked as Session 1, Part 1 are actually Session 3, Part 1. Can you locate and post the notes for Session 1, Part 1, please? Thank you!

I am also searching for the notes for session 1, Part 1 and have written to Valley Vineyard to see if they might track them down. Will keep all informed if they are found.

While I'm a big fan of Willard, kingdom living really doesn't require long explanation. It's simply obedience pursued. Just strive to continually know and understand (and internalize as habit, i.e., as character) and do everything Jesus taught (by word and deed and all of Scripture, Jesus being coauthor of Scripture). Besides one's own nature to do otherwise (than actully follow Jesus), probably the biggest obstacle is just about nobody ever spells out what those things are, except, to some extent, what you might pick up here and there by dribbles in church or Bible study (individual or group), which is likely quickly forgotten. Once, however, those specific teachings are identified, a regular routine of meditation and memorization is very helpful.

Agree that Willard's message at core is "obedience pursued," but simply stating it that way will not overcome the many impediments most people have with regard to that. First and foremost is the common understanding of "obedience" as a burdensome duty, and from that comes joyless, legalistic pursuit of "obedience." It's very common in today's church.
This is why Dr. Willard emphasizes the preaching of the many positive things related to a life lived with God in his Kingdom. In doing so, he's focusing on the "V" in his V-I-M model (V-I-M = Vision, Intention, Means). Picking up "obedience" as a "means" before either a "vision" or a true "intention" is established will almost always turn into what I described above. The V (vision) of life in the Kingdom is what helps establish the I (intention), which makes the M (means) undertaken out of desire to follow God, not out of a sense of burdensome duty.
As Dr. Willard had said on many occasions, the objective is not to simply do what Jesus commanded, but to become the kind of person who naturally and easily does the things that Jesus commanded. That does not come about by starting with "obedience." That comes about by starting with the gospel of the Kingdom.
