    The last woman said that she is kind, nice person who just doesn't want me to be able to marry my partner. It doesn't make any sense to me. Gay people are just the same as straight people and should be able to marry the person they love. If you oppose to that equality, don't expect to be treated as a kind person because you are not.

    • @MindbodyMedic
      @MindbodyMedic 4 роки тому

      its bullshit. marriage is for the protection of children, the accumulation of wealth in order to ensure that can be done and the continuation of culture.
      two men cannot create a child, nor can two woman. therefore any claim they have on marriage is null and void. It doesn't matter if a country 'legalises it' or not. Facts are facts and mother nature wins in the end

      @@MindbodyMedic What's mother nature's role in marriage? Is marriage a natural biological process like puberty? It seems more like a religious and legal process.
      An infertile woman cannot create a child, an infertile man cannot create a child. Is any heterosexual couple therefore where one of the partners is infertile is null and void because they'll never be able to have a child? What if a couple choses not to have any children? What if the couple adopts? Are all those cases null and void too?

    Most gay people are really cool for one simple reason: they learn from an early age not to be associated with bad people that can hurt them !

    Having the right to express an opinion doesn't give one a right to have that opinion respected or one's motives respected. Grow up.

    A homophobe is someone that fears living in a world that isn't completely straight and since there has NEVER been a time in history when the world was completely straight, that fear is irrational.

      Phobias are irrational and based on ignorance and basic fear.

      Stephen Turner and a phobia about living in a world that isn't completely straight is still phobia and is as irrational as it is impossible.

    free speech has been massively undermined here. I know from debating feminists that the words misogyny and misandry are used. I never though I would see a day where I could say "at least" that debate has anything over others. As it is not even really a debate because feminists are married to blame rather than reality... also faceless.
    Rory used the term as an expression of his view of groups being anti gay.
    It can be said being against gay marriage is not homophobia in itself, but you have to look at why someone is against gay marriage. It is impossible, to my mind, to see how one can be anti gay marriage without having a homophobic mentality.
    Marriage is a civil institution, not a religious one. It is a civil contract by the state. To deprive a group of people who form loving relationships and want to avail of this institution, is discrimination.
    The question should not be "should the state give this right to same sex couples?" it should be "should the state deprive a group of a right others have?"
    Why are these straight people see same sex marriage as such a threat and on such a gut level.
    As for this women saying she wants to say her bit, but not defend her bit, is pathetic.

    • @StephenTurnerVlogs
      @StephenTurnerVlogs 10 років тому +2

      Nicely put, I'm not sure if you've been following the forty-odd post conversation happening further up the page but I waded in and said something similar.
      I think the question of why the state should deprive a group of rights is absolutely perfect, being honest I will steal it and spread it around. :P
      I can't believe I'm watching this debate again, it's so cringe worthy. Still, I'm glad it's being debated if only to show up people like Iona and hopefully change peoples perceptions of them.

    Susan, you have had a very good marriage, why not others do the same? Opposition to same sex marriage does not necessarily make you homophobic but those who spread hate and lies about gay people most definitely are homophobic, Fred Phelps and Bryan Fischer for example.

    OXFORD Dictionary: "homophobia"
    Definition of homophobia in English:"Dislike of or prejudice against homosexual people".
    Sample sentences: "Acts of racism, homophobia, xenophobia or just plain discrimination happen all the time."
    After this RTE debate I will need to double-check if the Oxford dictionary is right in its definition!

    For anyone to tell another person who they can or cannot marry means, via their belief, they are okay with someone telling them who they can or cannot marry. This is based on that which Jesus called the Law and the prophets: that which you do not want done to you, do not do to someone else. Many, many people in this world have yet to learn to live by that Law. Those who truly believe in Jesus seek to keep that Law. Unfortunately, many who claim to believe in Jesus do not actually believe in Jesus because believing in Jesus requires you to do what He said: keep the commandments (of the Law). Being gay or gay marriage doesn't violate the Law. As such, many people are going with their own understanding on the subject instead of abiding by the Law as issued by Christ in Matthew 7:12.

      That's what common sense would dictate Paddy, although common sense has gone out the window in modern day Ireland...
      What amuses me most about these modern day liberals such as Colm and Averil is that they like to think of themselves as open-minded and tolerant, but they're only open-minded and tolerant as long as the views of everyone else are the exact same as their own.

    • @Paddyllfixit
      @Paddyllfixit 10 років тому

      Spartacus everything depends on context. What valid reason is there to exclude the black community from having the same marriage status as whites? Whereas in the current debate, traditionalists believe that the sacrament of marriage should be the union of man and woman only, with a view to bearing children. There's a valid reason for it, not just homophobia. And anyway, accusing someone of being homophobic just because of their stance on one single issue, is again,......ridiculous!

    Jesus said "So it will be at the end of the age,the angels will come forth and take out the wicked from among the righteous, and will throw them into the furnace of fire, in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth."Matthew 13:49-50. Jesus also said "You are my friends if you do what I command you." John 15:14. Jesus taught that the only way to be saved is to choose him as your Lord and Master, repent and believe that he died for the sins of his people on the cross see John 14:6.

    • @JimmieJamOfTheDay
      @JimmieJamOfTheDay 2 роки тому

      It's a typical modern day Christian belief that a person is solely saved simply based on what they believe, as if their actions don't matter. And, we see it continuing today where so called Christians manifest actions that are in total violation of the Law that Jesus issued (Matthew 7:12). However, because they believe a certain way, that seems to override their actions and keeps them in good standing with God (because they are believing the "right" way). I disagree. Let me present another view:
      Jesus' death on the cross resulted in every single person being saved, as opposed to what is currently taught: That Jesus' death on the cross only benefits those who say the Sinner's Prayer. Every knee will bow and confess and that's because every body that knee is attached to has been saved. Thus, every knee bowing and confessing. If you believe in a God who wills that those who currently don't believe Jesus is Lord will still have to bow and confess Jesus as Lord and then be cast into a place called hell after they've confessed, I'd urge you to thing and reconsider what that implies about God's character.
      Jesus replaced the law of Moses with the Law and the prophets as referenced in Matthew 7:12. Those who keep the commandments of THAT Law are the ones who are truly believing in Jesus. Believing in Jesus doesn't mean being presented with a list of Jesus facts and the person saying, "Yes, I believe all of that!" Believing in Jesus means trusting in Him enough to do what He said, which was to keep the commandments of the Law: "What you don't want done to you you, don't do to your fellow man"/"Love thy neighbor as thyself"/"Treat others in the way you would want to be treated". This is an 'actions speak louder than the things you say you believe in' type of thing. If everyone is saved, then what are you being saved from? Punishment, whatever that might consist of. Likely, corrective punishment prior to being reconciled to God. Not the type of punishment the human flesh longs to see their enemies endure.

      @@JimmieJamOfTheDay Yawn typical heresy, the Bible says "He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."
      John 3:18. Acts 4:12 says 'And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.”
      Acts 4:12. You're a cherry picker, only reason people reject the Gospel is because they love their sin and wanna suppress like God's word says Romans 1. Youre akso grossly ignorant of church history to say that's modern evangelicalism, you're a Universalist , Jesus said "you are my friends if you do what I command you." John 15:14.
