I love what you said about children! I feel like so many people conflate their desire to be a positive influence in a young person's life with wanting to be a parent!
I always gauge the length of a kindle book by my kindle’s estimation of how long it will take me to read the book. I need to check that before I dive in otherwise I’ll get frustrated when the percentage is not moving how I think it should. lol
So for “Wandering Stars” by Tommy Orange, make sure you read “There, There” first (if you haven’t already) “Wandering Stars” is a prequel AND sequel to that book. Last thing, if you like lite/no-plot books that have purpose and are well written, give Rachel Kushner a shot-maybe start with “The Mars Room”
Im so glad, you picked The Wedding People bec. was wondering what the hype was all about. "Pathetic" and quirky are the 2 pillars of w. femininity in pop culture. I hate them both. 😂 Edit: Just in time, Jess Owens is reading the Magic Ship book series, which takes place in the same universe!
You really be inspiring me to get back into my love for reading books by watching your book reviews 🥲♥️ like you said I’m so out of touch with the current state of fiction novels, I used to be locked tf in back in my teens 😩😭
Same here. Everything has changed and we are now in the state of fast fiction. Everybody is triggered, needing to turn their brains off, wanting something quick and not think provoking, they need it heavy on the romance, books are being written around tropes, I could go on, but you get it. People can read what they want, I’m just disappointed at how an entire community of readers have been forgotten (or removed) to benefit the new readers. I grew up in the late 90’s and early 2000’s so I was blessed to be exposed to more risky writing.
Pathetically whiny wimpy women characters make me grit my teeth. My entire best of 2024 books featured women who are more than what society says. Phoebe sounds like she's written from 1975, not 2025. She sounds like she's meant to appeal to a certain kind of reader who girl bosses. Family drama being the center of a story is important because those are the ties that move our character arcs. It's not gen lit, but When Women Were Dragons took those everyday people in the Americana era, letting women show their full selves without centering someone else's needs. That's what I want in genre fiction. Tethers to bind. One thing I appreciated in Lessons in Chemistry. Historical fic but given the current state of the world, relevant.
If you want to read a 2024 book, I really liked How To Read A Book by Monica Wood. It had really great characters and the story was moving in a good direction like what you were mentioning about Sandwich. There’s 3 main characters and 2 of them are 60+ and it was really interesting to see their perspective
White women exhausted will never stop being funny 😂
i hate when books appeals to reader, it’s cheap to me and the moment a character mentions a book i deduct a star
"i see why your husband left you." i'm
weak

The title is killing me 😭 lmao. The way you describe who the book is for is so funny & specific but it paints such a clear picture. Great vlog ❤
I felt the same way about The Wedding People 😂 phoebe’s inner thoughts in the second half really gave a pick me’s manifesto
....cat painkillers??? even as someone that's dealt with similar thoughts, they simply cannot be serious with that lmao

I loved Franzen's " crosswords" so I am going to get on " Sandwich" Asap.
Is the cord so you can charge the box to keep watching the video 🤣 also I’m trying to pay attention to the books but the ring??
Ooooh I will be sat for that Trilogy cause it's gonna be interesting to see your reaction 🤭🤭🤭🤭
Maybe the chord is for the phone/screen in your PR box?
