(2011 Scrimmage) Union at Tennessee High

- The newly-formed Union Bears from Big Stone Gap, VA travel to the Stone Castle in Bristol, TN to take on the Tennessee High Vikings in a preseason scrimmage game. This is the first ever team fielded by the Bears, as Union High School was formed just months ago following the consolidation of Appalachia and Powell Valley High Schools.

@Champcelticsnumber9 Gate City's website has an excellent electronic scrapbook with scores from past seasons. From 1996 to 2000, Gate City defeated Tennessee High 4 out of 5 times.
@Champcelticsnumber9 In a strange kind of round-about way, Union redeemed themselves with their victory over Virginia High who had defeated TN High just the week before.

@Champcelticsnumber9 There's always an excuse for everything, I suppose. That was the first time VA High had beaten them in 15 years. At some point, you must give credit where credit is due. I was just providing an interesting way to look at things since Union defeated VA High who had previously defeated TN High. That just goes to show on any given night, these teams could very well beat one another. All three have solid football teams.
@Champcelticsnumber9 You could always make the argument, too, that Union had an off game when they scrimmaged Tennessee High and lost by five touchdowns. Our views are no more interesting than yours. I just think admitting that these small Virginia schools can compete even with larger Tennessee schools is a bitter pill for you to swallow.

all u people up in the mtns. live in the glory days when u beat ths like one time when they had an off game and then u act like ur hot stuff. thats stupid, but it is sw va logic after all
