Thank you so much for showing support, I have fell in love with Dragon Quest after finishing 3. Currently playing XI definitive edition, there will be a lot of content coming for DQ.
It’s only hard if you play it like DQ11 or other games like it. DQ3 is designed with the job system in mind, reclassing and grinding stats and skills that help you in and out of combat. Plus older games were generally harder back then because they were much shorter so the difficulty extended playtime. Even then, 3 is still the easiest of the original trilogy just because the job system is so abusable.
I’m playing 4 right now (the ds remake) it’s way easier for the most part. But 11 is also a lot easier, especially when it comes to MP management. Idk to me many bosses on 3 felt quite hard. The bosses when they were on low health would wipe me several times. I don’t think 3 is a hard game, the bosses can be tough, but for people that are used to Persona and modern FF, or even general other modern Jrpgs, if they don’t adapt to how this franchise works, it’s gonna be hard.
Dare I say it is a touch easier than the NES version, but it is still challenging if you don't spend much time grinding. You can power level, change classes to make your characters even stronger than your hero potentially, and so forth. If I had one criticism, the addition of a harder difficulty or custom mode woild be welcomed.
Ngl I haven’t played the NES versions cuz I never owned one. I think tougher in this game if you are new to DQ, is just the way of working your way up, and actually reading descriptions and talking to npcs.

It can be if NOT playing on the Dracky/Can't EVER DIE mode.
Yeah Dracky mode is only if you care for the story, or a young kid playing
