I remember when Lindsey Whalen was drafted by the Connecticut Sun with the 4th overall pick in 2004, she told people she had hoped her hometown WNBA team, the Minnesota Lynx would draft her two spots later with the 6th overall pick which the Lynx moved up from the 8th pick in a pre-draft trade in an attempt to draft her. The Lynx already had the 7th pick in the draft and they knew already she would not fall to them with the 7th pick. The Lynx drafted Nicole Ohlde from Kansas State with the 6th pick and Vanessa Hayden from Florida with the 7th pick and both were on the team until 2008 when they were both traded away in the 2009 offseason. Just over a month after the Minnesota Lynx hired Cheryl Reeve as their new head coach on December 8, 2009, they made a blockbuster trade on January 12, 2010, trading their 4th overall pick in the 2009 WNBA Draft Renee Montgomery along with the 1st overall pick in the 2010 WNBA Draft to the Connecticut Sun in exchange for Lindsey Whalen and the 2nd overall pick in the 2010 WNBA Draft and the rest is history.
Well that may have to do with the current CBA for the league that limits the total amount a team can collectively spend on player salaries. That’s the primary reason I’m sure.
Whalen has such great basketball intelligence. I heard her doing commentary for a game and was just blown away at how clearly she explained stuff to a unknowledgeable audience like me.
Whelan was in over her head as head coach of the Gophers womens' team. She shold do better as an assistant with professionals. You mention all the former Lynx showing up at games as if it is a negative. The Lynx have a strong winning tradition and a very strong fan base. So many current WNBA fans are johnny-come-lately fans. The Lynx fans and team has been supporting womens' basketball for decades.
Was it Mike, the Mystics GM, who fired his son? That must have been an interesting exchange, and Mike and Cheryl know each other well. I do think Eric is a wonderful edition to the staff.
@AdrienneDupree I'm thinking Eric working under Cheryl will help further develop his skills. I have to admit I haven't followed the Mystics closely so don't really know that much about Eric.
Sounds like Reeves is establishing herself as the coach development coach in addition to being the team head coach. Interesting. This seems like a wise choice for Eric Thibault he’s learned a lot from his father it’s time to branch out and learn other coaching philosophies.
Honestly I think the addition of Eric was a gutsy move but I have put him in the assistant coach role instead of associate head coach and promoted Brunson to associate head coach!!! Whalen joining the staff will definitely give had the experience she needs to become a more established head coach when she gets the opportunity again!! Reeves is definitely establishing herself to be a coach development coach but I hope these staff changes also help Minnesota get another championship again!!
The Dallas Wings haven’t either, they got Curt Miller but he’s General Manager and VP of Basketball Operations but they haven’t hired a new head coach yet.
i think Maya was kind of disgusted by the fact Coach Reeve and Lindsay Whalen were having an affair. She knew Whalen was past her prime the last couple of seasons she played, but got the starting nod because she was banging the coach. Whalen was awful her last two seasons, nowhere near the player she had been when she started in the WNBA.
@@evanechoes253 Wowsa surprise no surprise. It also appears that Reeves has a type... Her current partner must be confident that Reeves is past those choices.
As a 14 year fan of the lynx. This is pure BS. None of it is true. Lindsey has been married a long time. Maya left to pursue other passions and returned for a wonderful jersey retirement last year and requested that Reeve speak. @@evanechoes253

Your info sharing is some of your beat work Quita. Those of us who stick with are definitely better informed and have context to WBB. ✌️
I appreciate that!
I sincerely appreciate you Quita! 1
They don’t want to reveal that they pay the lowest assistant coach more than the players.

They opted out so they won't see any salary increases until the 2026 season
Good for Eric. Like his dad, he’s smart and has an excellent rapport with players.
Whalen has such great basketball intelligence. I heard her doing commentary for a game and was just blown away at how clearly she explained stuff to a unknowledgeable audience like me.
Thank you for updates Quita!
Love your lament that the W doesn’t have enough leakers.
Consistent Quita is your new name!

Not a WNBA fan, not a Fever Fan, yes a Caitlin Clark fan.
Facts
Lots of surprises. Thanks Quita!🌺

Totally disagree that Eric is a good pick up from a long-time Mystics season ticket holder

Glad that you don't do CAitlin Clark or Angel Reese content to get clicks/views. Your attention to women's basketball is true.
Do you know how I can watch European women's basketball games or is there a site that I can go to or subscribe to?
Great work Quita ❤️🎉❤

Thank God Eric Thibault is gone from the Mystics. Wouldn't have these opportunities without his Dad.
So, Quita...the only teams that still need a HC are the Sun and the Mystics?
The Dallas Wings haven’t either, they got Curt Miller but he’s General Manager and VP of Basketball Operations but they haven’t hired a new head coach yet.
QUITA QUEEEEEEEEEE
Not important! 🤦🏽♂️
Tebo is a great offensive coach. Good hire.
What did the W do to M Moore? She has moved on and wants nothing to do with the league.
