    The number 1 tip IMO should be "Present while standing"!! What laptop/desktop riser stand are you using and do you have other recommended rises, more expensive or less expensive? Thanks :)

    • @ActiveGrowth
      @ActiveGrowth  4 роки тому

      There are many models just like it available on Amazon, at all kinds of price points. You can get a decent one for around $100, I'd say (I mainly go by the customer reviews on Amazon). There are also highly expensive desk riser solutions, but the generally all do the same thing. I've also used one called Freedesk, which is made of wood. It's a nicer, more elegant object and it's also more compact and portable. Costs a bit more, though.

    Thank you for sharing the set up. May i know why is it necessary to connect the microphone into Zoom H1n? Is it due to the original short cable length of the mic or simply the sound enhancement? thanks

    Hi Shane :) Thanks for the great, concise video. I just did our first-ever live stream webinar (with Zoom) of our 3-day course due to the constraints imposed by the coronavirus pandemic. We have specialized in live, face-to-face courses at conference centers for 30 years, so the webinar was an exciting adventure. For the webinar I used an Audio-Technica head-worn mic (BP892), connected to a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2, in turn connected to a powered USB hub, then finally a USB connection to my Surface Pro computer from the USB hub. I use this same AT mic during the live presentations through a wireless pack and receiver, into a Berhringer mixer, then on to house sound. I do not hear a lot of difference in audio quality from the webinar compared to audio recordings directly from the mixer in the live setting. You mentioned the head-worn mics didn't give you the sound quality desired ... I'm curious as to what degradation you have with a headset mic. Thanks!

    • @ActiveGrowth
      @ActiveGrowth  4 роки тому

      oh well, sounds like you're using some professional grade stuff. I was referring to microphones on cheap headsets. :)

    Hi Shane, two questions 1) Does VideoMicro has a more directional pickup pattern than Rode NT Desktop Mic you are using? Because both are the same cardioid pickup pattern. 2) Why can't we just mount Zoom H1 in place of the Video micro if they have the same Cardioid pickup pattern? I'm literally hunting for the answers.

    Well done.
    What app/webapp would you recommend to share LIVE demos of Photoshop and Lightroom where around 10 students need HD (1366x768px) or even Full HD video quality in order for them to see the details?
    Many thanks.

    • @ActiveGrowth
      @ActiveGrowth  4 роки тому

      Good question!
      Most meeting and webinar tools are capable of HD streaming. The limiting factors will be:
      A) Is your connection fast and stable enough?
      B) Will the stream (on the platfrom side) be stable and uncompromised?
      C) Is each participant's connection fast enough to receive the full resolution image?
      If you share your screen on Skype, Webex, Hangouts or Zoom, the quality should be good enough. Another option to consider is to use OBS to record and livestream at the same time (you can stream to UA-cam or Vimeo or other streaming platforms). In this case, you'll have a full quality video after the class, which can be viewed by anyone in better quality in case they had connection troubles during the live stream.

    • @carlosdias2403
      @carlosdias2403 4 роки тому

      @@ActiveGrowth Thank you so much for the precious recommendations.
      The OBS recommendation is also great, thanks.
      Meanwhile, another useful tip would be to ask participants to switch off the wi-fi connection during the session and to connect to the router with an Ethernet cable instead, in order to have higher data transfer rates and less communication glitches frequent in wi-fi connections.
      Greetings!

    • @carlosdias2403

      Why OBS doesn't show the menu and sub-menus of any windows when we share via Window Capture? For the menus to appear, we have to share via Display Capture, which might not be a good idea since it shares everything visible. So, any suggestions on how to share a window and its menus via Window Capture?

In addition, I wanted to project the image of the people from home into the studio TV's so that my coach can see who is participating and correct form. Hi! What software do you use for hight quality screen recording? We make webinars with showing our tool interface. But most of webinars softwares provide with very bad quality screen sharing video

    • @ActiveGrowth
      @ActiveGrowth  4 роки тому

      You're basically stuck with what the webinar tool provides. I've found stream quality to be pretty decent when using Webinar Jam, Zoom and GoToWebinar. Vimeo also offers a streaming plan with very good quality streams, from what I've seen. And if you want to do a stream rather than a webinar, OBS gives you full control over the quality that you upload.

    Great video! I read your blog post on this. I'm considering the Rode Micro to H1N that you have here, but it's not clear what cables you're using to run from the Rode Micro to the H1N input and then what you have running for a cable from the H1N output to the MacBook Pro. Any suggestions for each? And the specs on the Rode Micro say it requires 2V to 4V power. Is the H1N providing that or something else? Thanks for any clarifications!

    • @ActiveGrowth
      @ActiveGrowth  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Adam,
      The Rode VideMicro doesn't need any additional external power. It receives its power supply from the standard microphone jack that it's plugged into. In my setup, I plug the VideoMicro directly into the Zoom H1, which I've mounted on my boom pole as well. And then I simply run a long USB cable from the Zoom H1 to my laptop. The Zoom H1 uses a mini-USB port.

      I'm still confused about why there are 2 microphones connected together, what's the point. Why is there a need for the H1 in combination with the rode, Aren't they both microphones and if so why have not just the rode or just the H1? What part of the process requires the 2 in concert? Thanks

    • @ActiveGrowth
      @ActiveGrowth  4 роки тому

      Most laptops don't have a good DAC (the thing that converts an analogue audio signal to digital). If you plug the Rode Videomicro directly into the laptop, you probably won't have a clean signal. You may hear hissing, buzzing, crackling and other noises, for instance.
      The Zoom H1 could be used directly as a microphone and that sounds better. However, it's not a directional microphone so it will pick up more ambient noise than is desirable.
      So, either of those can work by themselves, but to get a really clean sound, I prefer combining them.

    Silly question. Why use the Zoom H1 and not just the Rode Micro straight into the laptop?

    • @ActiveGrowth
      @ActiveGrowth  4 роки тому +1

      Most laptops don't have a dedicated microphone input. If it does, or you have an adapter, you can try plugging the mic in directly. However, you need to test this setup. It's possible that you'll hear some static noise or interference. Plugging the mic into an audio recorder and that into the computer delivers a clean audio signal.
