Advancing with Watercolor: Seeing the Big Mid-Tone "Pienza, Old and New"

- This is part four of a muti-part series stemming from a recent trip to Florence Italy along with 10 other artists.- We traveled to the Hill town of Pienza for a day of painting watercolor in the open air. The subject in this work is the play of light and shadow across the old buildings, and eventually the tourists. I use the idea of simplifying my motif into 3 tones - lights, darks, and a large mid-tone as represented by the shadow.

I love your work and your videos. I sometimes do wish, though, that I could see a thumbnail of your reference picture while you're painting -- just so I can put what you're doing into better context. Thank you for providing these wonderful tutorials.
Beautiful
Thank you! Cheers!
Superbe la lumière.
Very nice
Very lovely! And very interesting! This is the way I'd like to learn to paint, but so far I've been working on so poor paper that I gave up. Now I've invested in some Arches pads and hope for better results when I get back at it. Your videos are really helpful!
Oh, and I just found the PFDs! Great stuff. I can't wait to dive deeper into this tomorrow. Thanks for putting all this together!
Optimo! Tutto
When you are planning a painting do you visualize in three dimensions or two?
Sir, I am a fan & student of you
What type of quill brush do you use?
😗💓👍👏👏👏👏👏🙋♀️
At 1:55 practically the paint is done..
You mention ( we ) I'm assuming your wife or partner. How do you feel about taking time to do your artwork whilst your partner has to hang about whilst you do what you do ? I'd feel very guilty at keeping them in the shade whilst I indulge in my passion. This isn't meant to be hurtful, I think that it's this that's stopping me " getting on with it "
