I raised two boys along with my husband who had major issues at dinner time from his father’s abuse.
We always listened to Jazz during that time of the evening. One night, I decided to light candles. The whole atmosphere changed and everyone of us seemed to calm and relax.
I think as a society, we have tossed so many of the finer relaxing benefits of rituals.
We also had a neighbor boy come for a weekday dinner and he stated during the dinner, “ wow, you guys actually talk at dinner”.
I felt really bad. Children welcome familiar happenings bc it gives them structure to go along with the chaos of family gatherings. It’s so important bc most us like to be able to expect what’s going to partake when we are invited out to someone’s home for whatever the holiday or occasion. Adults don’t welcome surprise guests or occurrences, so why would we believe for one min that a child will handle the situation well. Our family is passionate about our traditions. This is a very important subject and you all hit on very good reasons for your intentions. Thank you for your time
