Collectors, note: Clean Those Dirty PSP UMD (PlayStation Portable Disc)

- There's no obvious way to clean PSP media. My method is tedious, but you can remove those oily fingerprints and other gunk off the discs in your library without breaking the teeth around the edge of the UMD case.

Best way I’ve found. Thanks for posting this technique.
Certainly an interesting method to clean UMD discs. Looks pretty effective!
It's tedious, but it works.
thanks dude!! you helped save my copy of gta vice city stories
I'm glad I could help.
cool pro tip my psp collection has been growing so ill be using this method for sure
Any recommendations?
Nice video. If your UMD case breaks you can buy replacement ones.
I figured as much since I occasionally see UMD in translucent cases.
nice video most videos i found were about replacing the caddy not cleaning the actual umd
Brutal. I like to keep things as close to original condition as possible.
Ha. I do this too when I pick up PSP games. Good video!
Yeah, nothing goes in my library before it's cleaned.
I’d rather crack it open to clean and put a replacement case on it. The video method looks too rough compared to the way I handle my umd. As a collector watching the sharpie and the finger spin technique had me going insane.
Are you worried about the fingerprint left in the center metal disc? Wipe it afterward. Are you worried about the disc cracking as it moves past the smooth interior edges of the case? It's doing that already on occasion at higher speeds while spinning inside the PSP's disc drive.
I like my solution more than opening up the case since it preserves the original Sony-branded case. Once the case is cracked open, I don't believe you can snap it back together. The only replacement UMD cases I've seen are generics.
I wouldn't worry about the sharpie-ed UMD I chose to exemplify how the disc spins using the finger movement. It's just a demo disc.
Yyyessss just bought a copy of prince of persia revelations that has some dirt bits on the disc. Was about to crack it open when i found this vid.
and if you cracked it open, there would be no way to put it back. There are replacement disc caddies, but they are not official. I'm glad I helped you.
Pretty useful, thanks
You'd think UMDs would stay clean inside their cages. I'm glad this could help.
@@WhatsOnMyShelf I'm increasing my collection and some
2nd hand cartridges come with lots of dirt unfortunately
Hi, so I think I got a problem, I got the game DBZ Shin Budokai and no matter what I have done, it’s always the same, being slow…..like as in starting up the game slow, the disc isn’t scratched but it has these weird looking bubbles on the disc, is there a way to get rid of this? Let me know please
Bubbles? Are the bubbles on the UMD itself or the plastic caddy? I never heard that could happen to the UMD or caddy. I have seen bubbles on plastic of SNES and NES carts that were sitting in water for a long time at one point before they dried out. Maybe that warped the plastic.
If bubbles are on the surface of the UMD (as in they cause the surface to be raised in that area, rather than just a flat circular mark on the UMD), then no, the UMD is not fixable. The laser of the UMD drive must hit the disc head-on. A raised bubble would causing the laser to refract in some undesired direction, making it impossible to read the data.
@@WhatsOnMyShelf I can’t really tell, but it looks like it might be on surface of the disc, I could send you a picture of it if you give me like a Gmail or something to use. Like I said I can’t really tell if it is on the disc itself or on some sort of plastic like cover of the disc itself but I think it might be on the disc fully
@@drago2431 You can use a site like post image to upload a pic and then share the link. The site does not require signup
I know exactly what you're talking about, I have the same problem, there's 4 "bubbles" in an almost square like pattern around the center of the plastic case.
@@sameash3153 yeah that was the same for my disc, I don’t have it anymore due to me throwing it away but I am curious on why it was there and how to fix it if there is a way to fix it of course
What type of clean stuff I need?
I'd like to help you, but could you rephrase your request so that I can understand what you are asking?
@@WhatsOnMyShelf He’s asking you what stuff does he need.
Get to the point Jesus

This video is under 5 minutes. Calmdown
Happy little circles, really? Ok, Bob Ross. What an unnecessary, pointless video.
Other viewers have found this technique helpful and commented as much. Some people get their games used, and the previous owners may not have been so careful with their games. You are the most awesome person in the world for not needing to clean your UMDs. Have a fantastic day.
Your video was very helpful. Thx.
