Ah, absolutely warms my heart to see Cheeri0s content! As the 2011 Source poster for the deck it truly is a glass cannon that just folds so hard to FoW/FoN. I still have it built but stopped playing it when FoN came out as even with a bit beefier mana count and Veil in it still folds to U. A couple of thoughts if you're ever going to sling it again: 1) I never play more than 2 Scapegoats, and usually just one. 2) Whether it's Beck/Call or Rite for Glimpses 5-X, I usually don't run a full playset as you can flood on them when comboing. Would recommend just running 2-3. 3) Noxious is also very handy, but like Scapegoat, only as a 2-of in the MD. 4) I do love Assault Formation as the other 1-of wincon next to Grapeshot. I've won with it more often than you'd imagine as it makes Shield Sphere a beater. 5) 3 duals is about 1 over the recommended amount. Also fun trivia: The original name of the deck was "Oh-face" but Gerry T made it more PG and stuck with the combo=breakfast cereal theme and named it "Cheerios" during commentary.
What's your opinion on pre-boarding a playset of allisaurus rider to hedge against countermagic, and then maybe adding two endurance to counteract the tempo disadvantage of wasting turn 1 on it? Pitch-cast creatures seem like they'd spice the deck up a little. Against nonblue decks, you swap them out for more 0s and just podrace.
@@rosly_yt I've toyed with a bunch of pitch-cast over the years, with Skyshroud Cutter being the clear winner in the "I don't want to have all 0-CMC costed creatures" contest. I have not tested it with Endurance but that seems like it could work, especially in a build that is running Cutters and Beck/Call to up the G count for the pitch. As a fun variant, I have run a build with a singleton Gaea's Cradle in it to make Assault Formation truly terrifying as a "Plan B". That build also runs a number of Walking Ballista to dump mana into and deal with creature-based things like Thalia that shut the deck down. The deck REALLY cares about critical mass and fizzle %. Little things like "thinning" and land slots all make differences in the fizzle rate. I did have some success splitting the Gas/Find Gas pile into 4x Glimpse, 2x Personal Tutor, 2x Beck/Call to allow for a T1 tutor for Glimpse that couldn't be Thoughtseized but could still get around Chalice on 0. Made moot when FoN got printed, but still...
@@marcagel That's really interesting, I'd love to see someone try a few variations of this deck with these changes. I think the deck is also weirdly good at sideboarding for a combo deck, which is interesting. Thanks for telling me about these variants!

That would actually make for some interesting deck building ideas. Instant speed cantrips would be even more valuable and non drawing cantrips might actually see play in modern.
Assault Formation is a superior alternative to Goblin Bushwacker. Can be deployed before you start building your board, let's you attack over multiple turns instead of only once, pairs really well with Thopters and Walkers, and can be cast with ESG.
@@DocZecon nope, but it sets up a long play scenario...I think the bigger issue is it's not a creature but I don't know if 8 Glimpse effects are needed. I used to run 6 with Beck//Call and didn't have problems (beyond what the deck normally suffers from).

At 24:27 you could have cast rite by sacrificing cantor and pitching guide, then cast the kobolds to draw 2. I think that is significantly better odds than just playing the Kobold and hoping to find enough 0's for grapeshot, or scapegoat.
Oh boy this, is a deck I didn't think I'd see again. I still remember late nights with buddies jamming builds of this trying to find the best build to meme an SCG Open with. In regards to the "worried about my win conditions being the bottom 2 cards of my deck," there is at least some potential counterplay for it. If your life total isn't too low or you've got spare mana and you've kept a Noxious Revival in hand (which you surely have when there's 3 in the deck), you can respond to each lethal draw trigger by using Noxious Revival to put another Noxious Revival back on top. And if your wincons are your bottom 2 cards AND your resources are low, then that's just one more loss for this deck that we chalk up to the Magic Gods saying no
Scapegoat is such a weird, old card. I've had one in my collection ever since I started playing and always wondered what it could really be used for. It's nice to see that it has a weird home for its weird ability!

In G2M2, you did make a mistake in picking up Cantor. You always want to float it in play, because it represents a mana source that you don't get back. You lose out on one draw, but because it was turn 1 with no response from the opponent, you just have it floating. It's not a free card like the others, it's mana neutral, but in a deck that you need mana to pop off and you only have 3 lands, 4 Petal, and 4 ESG, it's better in play.

It seems like Rite of Harmony and Elvish Spirit Guide are both often bricks, what do you think about going down to 2 of each of those and bringing in more 0s? I think 4 ingot chewer in the sideboard is a bit much, since nature's claim does basically the same thing while also giving you some play against red deck wins, so you have plenty of room to slot some Lightning Bolts or Furys or Endurances in the side.
