I've read that these palms have some serious spikes (thorns). I want them for around my pool in Rochester, NY and then bring them inside to my sunroom during winter. Are they dangerous with kids / pets around? Can they be cut off or controlled?
I there are literally millions of them in California, and I never see any incidents on the evening news of kids, or pets, becoming maimed from them. In fact, not once. But seriously, they only have thorns on the very inner core of the plant and you'd have to do an unintentional face plant to even get near them.
Hi I have a Pygmy date palm that is split into two but connected at the base. I don’t know what happened but half of the palm died. All the palms died off. The other side seems to be fine. Can I cut the dead side off at the base? Or will it kill the other side?
This was Dominican republic so that tree in that tropical climate is probably only 15 years old, the same tree in Southern California would be 25 years old, the same tree in Northern California would be 35 years old
I bought one, I accidentally didn't see it said tree, my gosh what was I thinking, then I found out later they have spikes, I don't want it, hope the store takes it back😳💀💀💀💀
Are there any pygmy date palms with great tasting dates? And where might I buy such a date palm?
How much time does it take to grow ..?? I have 2 of them in my house

You should be able to cut the dead one with no ill affect to the other
What does it mean if the trunk is slightly yellow in areas?
Just out of curiosity, is the palm showing magnesium deficiency? Thanks.
No, Its showing Potassium deficiency.
Can these trees be capped to keep it from getting taller?
Most beautiful little palm!
How far from the house?
