Fanatic Wrestling, like it’s sister site BJJ Fanatics was founded by a pair of grappling fanatics dedicated to bringing you the best wrestling competitors and coaches in the world to learn from. They both realized they were missing an entire section of the grappling community so the idea for Fanatic Wresting was born.

What's the counter to this - taking the back before the throw?

Don’t let them get that pinch headlock grip, if a good guy gets it with it you’re in for some brutality. If you do get caught in it clear out of that tie up asap, otherwise he can throw you and land in awesome position to the underhook side or absolutely boom you to the traditional headlock side if you circle away from the underhook like in this video.
Cormier used this a lot against Mir, he never really attempted to throw once(Mir’s ground game’s better n he knows it) but the threat of being slammed really caused Mir to freeze up opening up Cormier’s dirty boxing.

I got a problem, I started wrestling since few mounths, but everytime I wrestle Im like frozen et I don't know what to do, I only counter the opponent when he shoot...I watch a lot of video, practice a lot the mouvement with the coach, but in real sparring it's like im forgeting everything that I learned, only brute force work

Pick one or two moves that you like and work for many situations and drill the hell out of them. Learn them inside and out and practice them until every aspect of the movement becomes ingrained in your DNA. I'm not saying that one or two moves alone is all you ever need to be successful long term, BUT if you freeze under stress having one or two moves that you have sharpened into a weapon helps a lot more then kinda knowing 50 things you seen in a video or just tried in practice once or twice.

Eric's advice is excellent. A single leg is one of the best. Would be a great 1 to master. Also work hard on your head position, down blocks and sprawls.. Wrestle as much as you can. Nothing can replace mat time! Good luck on your journey !

Hey, I used to have to same problem. I'm not a great wrestler but I hope the advices I'm about to give you will help. First, don't miss practice and try to have as much fun as you can. This is not about winning, this is about improving. U gotta understand the basics, correct your stance, find out how ties work, how to put pressure, all those little invisible details make a huge difference trust me. Don't be afraid to ask your coach or your teammates. U can have your own game and build on it just like bjj. Let say all you wanna do is attack the single leg. Find out how you can set up your attacks from different ties, off balance your partner, attack the leg and finish from there depending on your opponent reactions. This may take years to master but just be consistent and have fun with it. Or maybe you don't wanna attack u just wanna defend and counter your opponents attacks and score from there, be more a defensive wrestler. Kyle Dake s dvds on defence is awesome, dan vallimont s dvds are great too.
