What the randomizer hack did in Whomp's Fortress was corrupt the transformation matrix. In short, it's a special table of numbers in the main program that tells the N64 system how to draw triangles and textures on the screen correctly so they look 3D.

If the transformation matrix was truly corrupted, then we'd see something like a warp-speed effect with bunches of triangles going off to a specific point, and stretched textures. I couldn't tell you exactly what the mod maker did. There's a video talking about a similar concept: ua-cam.com/video/F-FBYTV-1BQ/v-deo.html There's a lot of computer science in that video that I don't understand, but really what we're dealing with is large numbers with extremely small details, the inability of the original console to handle those numbers, and your computer's graphics card cutting corners.
