My grandmother lived in Springhill all her life. When we would visit her we would go to this shop n save. I remember it well from the 80s and 90s. Where the tobacco store is now was once a pizza place called Caprices. They were there for a while and still there in the the mid 90s. I drove by the area a few years ago and its really sad to see what that neighborhood has become. The house that my grandmother lived in from when she was little, that was once immaculate now has busted out windows and a jungle for a yard. Thanks for the videos Wallie!
Looks like Tracy’s Deli has a Facebook page. They were selling their equipment & posted photos on October 1. I love doing research on all your locations!
My nephew and some of my nieces live on the Northside and they are wonderful people so it all can't be bad, maybe just some areas. Thanks for finding this one!
Most of my schooling was on the Northside of Pittsburgh. My sister and I can read and write and do basic math. Went to religious and public schools there and we have the education skills just like everyone else. My skills and morals I learned on the Northside of Pittsburgh have given me life skills for my job and life here in the Midwest:)
SNS' parent, Supervalu, was bought by United Natural Foods and is exiting the retail business. If there are any SNS left in Pittsburgh, they won't be for long. 19 of the 36 stores in SNS' western division in St. Louis and Springfield, IL, were sold to local chain Schnucks in October 2018; the rest were closed. The Farm Fresh stores in Virginia and Hornbacher's in the Dakotas have been sold or closed. UNF is still trying to sell it's Cub Foods stores in the Midwest and Shoppers in and around Washington, DC.
Dairy Queen in West Erie Plaza just closed, if you want to check that out. There is also a trampoline park in East Erie that used to be Quality Fresh Markets and then Value King/goodcents. It's very interesting how they changed a supermarket into a trampoline park.
I have shopped here with a friend who lives in Troy Hill. It was actually a nice family owned store that had good produce, a good deli, everyone was super nice. I had always wondered if this store was still open, because its been a long time since I've been down that way. Just like many of the Foodland locations, Shop n Save are all family owned, and the "next of kin" want nothing to do with continuing the legacy of their families businesses. I'm a longtime friend of the former owner of Foodland on Chartiers Ave in McKees Rocks, whose son ran the Foodland across from Langley High School in Sheraden. Both got out... SuperValu is a pain to work with. Wetterau was a much better distributor, and even more so Charley Bros of Belle Vernon who used to be the supplier. Its sad to see the old days gone. It truly is. Thanks as always, Wallie... love your vids.
That padlock is useless. The four screws holding the latch on are exposed. A cordless screwdriver would have it open in a minute and perhaps twice that with a hand screwdriver. Not what I'd want for a lock in a bad neighborhood.
Alen Dzinic will do if you check out my other channel and sub back to this ua-cam.com/video/vjF6UE2P6Mg/v-deo.html I read books on youtube as an advocate for literacy.
Spagnolo Shop n Save is what it used to be called, I have fond memories of this being a thriving, family friendly grocery store. It was great because if we ever needed stuff for a family party we could just run down Homer St. and pick things up, Dollar General being there makes me sad, not the same
Hey WallieB26 it is me Dave again. I knew this place when it was an active shopping center. Too much for me to tell in a post. Like you uploads. Do you work for Jeff Chechlow towing on Babcock Blvd? Saw your Tshirt!
Something about the atmosphere and vibe of that area makes it feel sketchy, at least in the video. Maybe just because it's the fact that it looked like it was gloomy on that day.
So, during the winter time are you going to be breaking until Spring hits, or are you still going to be doing this if it is dead cold? Just wondering. Hope you're well. Also, those fan blades look really creepy. Have you ever seen pictures of melted fan blades? For some reason, they scare me.
William M. I plan on going out still as long as the weather cooperates. I'll also be doing other random videos and vlogs to bring you guys videos. Plus a friend of mine and I have a few plans for some future videos. ☺
And yeah, I'm doing well. Just busy as all heck getting ready for the holidays. And don't feel bad... old droopy fan blades creep me out too. I don't know why. They just do.
WallieB26 If you ever get a chance to visit St. Louis, MO someday, you should visit a Shop 'n Save store, and you should make a video about it. You don't have to though, due to personal life, money, gas, etc. ❤
They have coupons where if you spend $50 or more you'll get $10 off the total. They also have frequent sales, you just have to keep returning. There's one in a former Kmart about a mile from where I live, so I'm there frequently.
Hi Wallie huge fan of your videos. If you want, there's a really unique Wendy's building in my town with the old logo on it and I could take pictures of it if you want to see them :)
littleboi4chopko littleboy4chopko sure thing. I'll definitely do that once I'm in the area. Which site would you prefer? UA-cam, twitter, instagram maybe?
Ok sweet! I actually have another channel called 3wp explores where I do the same thing as Wallie! Once I'm in town where Wendy's is, I'll be sure to record it and put a video out
Looks like the old neighborhoods better days have passed on.When I see a check cashing and tobacco outlet as the only stores that can survive that plazas days are numbered. No💸No customers~No customers No💸Such is the circle of life in the new economy😕
Hey man i like all your Videos its Sad the People who own these buildings just let them all rot and decay you ever Heard of a K's Merchandise we had one in my state of IL it was a awesome store Kinda like Wards

Linda Goreham I like your comment Linda! I grew up on the Northside of Pittsburgh Pa and my little sister and I turned out good.

You may leave the Northside of Pittsburgh. But it never leaves you!
I kind of remember the shop n save being an A&P grocery market at one time. The deli I remember as Flori Bakery.
Rob
It was a Thorofare Grocery Store

Cameron Harvey ^^They did the same thing with the former K-Mart here in Daytona Beach. (I grew up in Pittsburgh.)

It hasn't been closed for 20 years. Maybe 15 years. I grew up there. It's so heartbreaking to see it look the way it does now

Spring Garden always had problems. Even back in the day! When times were good it was no good.
Wow, love these old relics of old shopping plazas. It's surprising it hasn't seen redevelopment....

wow since you made this video their is now a dollar general in this location, this plaza has made a complete 180

Damn if that closed in 99 or 2000 that's been abandoned for as long as I've been alive. Damn I didnt realize that it was that long ago
There's Shop and Saves all over in the St Louis area. They are big here.
Shop and save - Walmart for the even cheaper people

Yeah, isn't Spring Garden Avenue super sketchy?
K-mart in harborcreek just closed not too long ago, maybe you could check that out.
Yup...
Retail Apocalypse marches on.
When First Opened it was a Thorofare Grocery Store!

It's St Louis based, that's why they're all over Missouri and Illinois. www.shopnsave.com/about.html
That door you tried to open looks like it it's boarded shut from the inside too board hanging cross the door
I’ve always hated shop and save lol
I remember picking up a box of rice and it was covered in dust
Damn. That's not surprising though.
Sad thing is that sometimes you really don't really save that much money at Shop n Save.
Turbid Dragon I respect your opinion.
They have coupons where if you spend $50 or more you'll get $10 off the total. They also have frequent sales, you just have to keep returning. There's one in a former Kmart about a mile from where I live, so I'm there frequently.
