    I was in AP Chem this year and we asked our teacher if she’s ever watched it.
    She went “It’s super easy to make it. I can probably make it. I won’t tell you how to make it or this high school would lose the only teacher that’s ever got a shot at raising those Chem AP test scores (true, great teacher).”

    The writers of Breaking Bad really did their homework for a lot of things, and this shows it. I work in the Durable Medical Equipment division of a large hospital chain and one of the most common setups I do is home oxygen. The fact Hector is not wearing an oxygen mask like so many movies and TV shows do, means he's on a liter flow of oxygen that is less than 6lpm. The reason for this is if was using a mask instead of a nasal cannula like he is seen wearing, his character was on a liter flow that was low enough that could allow him to use an oxygen tank outside (as shown in almost all shots in Better Call Saul) that the oxygen coming out of the tank would not displace the carbon dioxide he's exhaling fast enough and would ultimately lead to hypoxia and kill him. An E tank at 2000psi at 6lpm would barely last 90 minutes and that isn't feasible for someone who is running a drug empire from a wheelchair. Speaking of wheelchairs they also use the correct branded wheelchairs that would be issued to a patient that gets a DME request with wheelchairs from Invacare.
    Like seriously, they did their homework

    btw, its soo interesting that you chose this as your topic because I have also wondered about the chemistry behind this as well... why materials like teflon; polyethylene and neoprene are resistant to hydroflouric acid? I remember doing a descriptive writing assignment in one of my introductory chem courses.. so I am glad you're addressing this topic

    • @groovymanlive
      @groovymanlive  Рік тому +21

      Polyethylene is explained in the vid, and as for neoprene, it’s the same as PE, but 1 H atom is instead a Cl atom. Cl is in the same group as F, and only one period below, meaning it’s *almost* as electronegative. So it’s barely different from PE, and then teflon is already a fluoride so it wouldn’t react. This video was really fun to make lol

    What did your teacher say/think about the whole project? I’m curious to hear their comments on it as a fellow chemistry enthusiast.

      Davinci Resolve, it’s free and super powerful. It’s a biiiit resource-heavy, but any decent computer should run it just fine

    and in totally not speaking from experience advice, sodium hydroxide is much better for getting rid of bodies as it's very cheap doesn't react with as many materials
