Stowell has been a legendary Pacific Northwest jazz guitarists for decades. I first saw him after I moved here in 1984, doing a duo with David Friesen, a great PNW bassist. Stardom has escaped Stowell, because he has always been so unique and probably hasn't sought stardom. However, he's well-respected and admired, locally and internationally.

thanks so much for posting this. I'm a huge fan of John and was super bummed when I found out about this show after the fact. Now I get a chance to hear it! :)
Wow ! Incredible trío..! Impressive bassist, fine drummer...! Phenomenal guitarist : he remember me the way Brad Mehldau play complex dissonances... Congratulations!
oh my fucking aigh! what in the world? these fingers and those stretches are crazy beautiful. Sorry , new to Jazz (2 years only), so every time i see and learn someone new and a new tech. this is just so good! very excited!
I don't think so, doesn't sound a million miles away from those headless steinberg guitars that used to be around years ago,I think Lou Reed used one on the new york album
@@mranon7485 that’s the point. You don’t need to be an expert to recognize the effect, unless if you are a know nothing like you. Thanks for the congrats, but what I have is nothing special. What you don’t have is. Congrats. Really.

That guitar! Anybody know what that is? It looks like a modified travel guitar of the sort I first used to see at guitar center and such around 30 years ago..l
WHAT is this guitar 😂😂 upside down carpeted thing. Looks cozy to play at least. edit: 49:40 now I understand.. he wants to be held by the guitar.. I totally get it.
Aww it's not jazz unless they're playing an impeccably coiffed custom hollow-ish thingy with every stylistic accoutrement in sync, and reflective of the proper historical decade. (just kidding sorry couldn't resist 👍)
Stowell is the consummate professional. He’s always gone his own way in pursuit of his art regardless of the critics (of which there have been very many); forsaking at the outset of his career the grinding urbanism of the Northeast for the more forgiving rhythms of life in the Pacific Northwest. A man who knows who he is and is comfortable in his own skin; a man living the dream! Mad respect for him.
Jazz of great class excellent musicians
Suave inspiração!!!
great music. Thanx

thank youtube for introducing me to this musician!!🙏💞🎸😑
L'eleganza e la modernità del John Stowell Trio ❤
Wonderful! one of the best jazz guitarists of our time 👍
Stowell is a real master of the guitar.
Just phenomenal, original guitar playing. Wow. I'm like, how have I not heard of this guy!
These dissonant chords are extremely beautiful as well as being very personal. A lovely selection of songs.
One of the most aesthetically incomprehensible guitar setups extant, but such a dreamy touch and great ideas. Would love to see him.
I believe they call that a semi-"soft" body jazz box.
@@markphillips1057 Has anyone done a memory foam body yet? Might be time
These guys are smooth like butter 👏👏👏
Spine tingling dissonant mastery.
Hi John,I enjoy your new video very much.Great playing from all of you, beautiful sound from your guitar.Inspiration,as always!!! Thanks for posting!!
Amazing! Jaw dropping jazz performance
Why have I not heard of this man before? Wonderful sound and great backup, outstanding bassist on that old Kay 3/4. Very unique guitar set up!.

incredibly beautiful and delicate playing!

Bravo John Stowell,
I've never heard you in a trio before, but this format suits you well. Best wishes from Germany. Johannes (Speyer :D)
The base is such grateful

Fantastic , John and band.
So tasteful, musical, and swinging!

Fantastic John! Hope to see you when you're here next.
Sounds great John!
Wish I had attended. Only lived half an hour away at the time.
Excellent!
Cool... so musical and dynamic playing
Really enjoyed this concert ...,love the arrangements ,melodic impressions , harmonic renderings and interweave of solos by all players
So intimate, well executed and excellent sound.. Bravissimi all.. Mario
Mature music! John we almost did guitar duo in D.C. I'm in Thailand. MM
Excellent fresh sound
Really beautiful!
Amazing music, cheers from Brazil
Exelente todo!!!
El tono, la forma de abordar los temas, el bajista, el baterista...
Hay que escucharlo....solo eso...
so beautiful
These guys surely know how to play their 3/4s. Love them for that! It's just so refreshing hoe you pay this!
nice! 👏👏👌👌👍👍
I theorize that John has the guitar to his neck in order to feel the vibrations ringing throughout his body. Beautiful performance.
I don't think so, his playing position is more about making those stretchy close voicings easier IMO
Great tone - thick and very clear - sounds better than an archtop here.
I don't think so, doesn't sound a million miles away from those headless steinberg guitars that used to be around years ago,I think Lou Reed used one on the new york album
Clear, but not thick at all. It’s funny you can’t recognize the effects of full body guitar sound. It’s quite significant.
@@tizmon U are smart and music expert - congratulations!

Great playing…unusual playing posture…..
Interesting how he’s nearly holding the guitar in a classical manor. Sick players in this video.
Modern jazz at its best 👍🏻 Bass player reminds me a lot of Steve LaSpina
you guys are wonderful...
I really admire that this venue upholds jazz music as a way to glorify God 🙏🏻 Truly inspiring!
John !
Never saw a jazz guitarist play a potato sack travel stick. Sounds good man.
Fine trio - lucky to have played with this man! Great stuff.
Mastery.
Ed Bickert 2.0👏👏👏👏👏
"And now, your local on the 8's."
Better than this it does not get!
Great bass sound, anyone know the bass make and pickup? I see a mic on the bass...Thanks
Question; Where all this trio from?! Great piece! Greetings from Jazzman KUL.

Nice! Marty Sender You Tube
que isso bicho... parada mais torta que eu já ouvi mas ao mesmo tempo aconchegante, essa galera fala muito com instrumento.
No sé dónde termina el pantalón y empieza la guitarra, me marea ese color crema.

Ah yes a Smokey bar in Harlem and a few lonely drunks listening to this utterly inoffensive musical sandwich
This is actually a little west of Harlem… Arizona 😆
Anyone knows the tunes that they are playing?
The first tune is “Body and Soul” with a longish intro. That’s as far as I’ve gotten so because I’m tripping on that guitar. It looks like one of those electric travel guitars that have been around for almost 30 years!
Covered with the finest tone carpet!
Sounds lovely though
Body and Soul, Inutil Paisagem, Beautiful Love, United… I’m still listening through the set so haven’t heard the rest yet
That guitar! Anybody know what that is? It looks like a modified travel guitar of the sort I first used to see at guitar center and such around 30 years ago..l
It’s a Soloette. That is the brand. John uses one of the electric models but I don’t remember which one.
SongBird Jazz made by Rossco Wright in Eugene Oregon , he stopped making them a few years ago.
@@AzSamad thanks!
can he play SMOKE ON THE WATER
What kind of amp?
The tone is in his hands? N'est pas Not so shabby for a Englushman lol

pillow guitar
WHAT is this guitar 😂😂 upside down carpeted thing. Looks cozy to play at least.

WHERE THE GUITAR A LITTLE HIGHER......
What is that feckin' guitar ??
A Soloette.
guitar covering by the late great H. Lecter
Beautiful set. But when your instrument is poking you in the ear and requires a crotch pillow, I'd probably rethink the ergonomics.
😂
lmao!
That may be true, I still want one though
Looks very ergonomic, actually.
@@prodigaljess It certainly sounds amazing. Who am I to argue with such beauty? Maybe I need a pillow guitar too.

bad guitar sound , thin
Beautiful to listen to, irritating to watch
Something just a little too precious and fragile about it. The remark about how good the salad was fit right in.
