- Following the very humbling success of our previous video featuring the turbo Lexus IS300 also known as @Boosted_Lexi we wanted to make a follow up to address some of the questions and comments we were seeing. As one of the more "sorted" cars in the turbo import scene we wouldn't by any means call ourselves experts here at Lucore Automotive but we DO have some pretty solid experience to share on this platform.
As we've said before, and mention in the video, this car is still powered by the original 2JZ-GE that came in the car, still has the stock head NA head, still has the stock NA cams and is a completely streetable daily driveable 500 horsepower racecar for the street. Could we have gone with a 2JZ-GTE swap to hit our goal? Absolutely! Aristo motors can be found for cheap and the documentation of that kind of swap is pretty easy to find. What we were looking to do is, could we hit our 500whp goal on essentially stock parts plus a well built turbo kit? Stuffed with parts from Eagle, Weisco, Driftmotion, Dezod Motorsports, and CXRacing we think the answer is absolutely yes!
With the rebirth of the 2020 Toyota Supra we feel this kind of build and project is even more exciting, for far less money than you will have in the modern Supra we have built a 4 door Turbo Supra for the streets ... oh and you can use it to take the kids to school or get groceries!

Great video, keep it coming. I’m finally starting my 2jzge rebuild with some gte rods and oem non-interference pistons. I’ll run it na for a while and hit it with a nice turbo system in the future

The IS250 is an interesting car, we've never built one but have had a few people inquire about doing one. Never know, once we get through our CURRENT batch of builds!

45k??? Holy sh*t. With that money, I’d expect to make at least 800whp.
Realistically we could do that, the motor itself would probably get you into the 700-800whp range just changing out a few things.
When we began this build it was with the 500whp goal in mind and totally street driveable mild manners on pump gas. Swapping to a larger throttle body / GTE intake, larger less sneaky intercooler, using a larger slower spooling turbo, and switching to E85 you're there
That number is complete bullshit. You can build a solid af IS for 15k.
Total BS lol. That was just a number to make you think you can't do it yourself so you take it to a shop like them to build for you

Car looks amazing and reliable...we don't have the is300 but the altezza version in trinidad...
For anyone who thinks it really takes 35 grand to get 500 horsepower reliably and running well out of an IS300, get excited because well you can spend 35 grand on it if you want to you can do very very very very very close to the same thing for about five or less
If you can build this same car for for $5,000 or less we are very very very very excited for you and can't wait to see the build video!
im pretty sure hes talking about the horsepower gains & reliability not building the whole car inside and out with body kits and paint jobs ect... lol
@@lushaunm He is certainly entitled to his opinion on how to do that, however factually it's just not possible. If it is, would love to the breakdown.
Roughly speaking let's say he's referring to "just doing a GTE swap", you are looking AT MINIMUM the motor, wiring harness, ECU, fuel system, transmission, shifter adapter, new driveshaft, custom exhaust, and a few other things that are also a few hundred dollars..
And that's not even discussing the labor or tuning costs. We WISH you could build something like this for that much, unfortunately it just isn't.
Thats what im saying, im building one and 45k is insanity. Might aswell buy a Tomei crate engine.

I have a w55 manual swapped is300 NA that I would like to pro-charge one day. But it’s a wide body tucking 275 in the rear and 255 in the front on 18x10 and 18x9, fun car but really looking to learn more about what I can do with stock internals

First tip we can give, make sure your motor is healthy before stepping into the realm of forced induction! Verify compression at the very least :)

Looking to do a more meager 300whp motor build over the winter for next drift season. Good to know at least I won't have to worry about a new diff! Didn't know they were that stout which is great.
Yes sir you should be just fine. We still haven't found the limit of the stock rear diff. Now drifting is going to be a bit more sustained abuse but so far it's stout!

@@ThePudgyPlatypi No Sir stock as well. Custom drive shaft but axle shafts and diff are all bone stock
This is actually the best way to build one. The GE head has better airflow than the GTE. Only other difference is the internals Im guesing you used GTE internals. You can put GTE valve covers and GTE style intake. Also R154 trans best option. You can get 1000hp out of a built one if you want to spend 3k on a clutch
Glad you are on the same page we are, we used upgraded forged internals but yes you are completely correct stuffing GTE internals in the GE block gives you a great base to work from.
It's over built for sure for what we are asking for it, but that also gives us plenty of reliability!

Another question? if you're using the blitz exhaust is that from a supra or custom made. Cause I like that deep rumble its not raspy like others.
Pretty much all custom exhaust, we are definitely happy with how it sounds. Good tone and not terribly loud and abusive.
@@LucoreAuto what about resonators, cats, and muffler and what inch pipping?
I ran my stock GE intake manifold, cams, throttle body to 670whp before I wanted it to look pretty lol. The cams were really limiting me, not so much intake manifold or throttle body.
We certainly have more power on the table with this thing however we hit exactly what our goal was and didn't want to push things into the "stupid to drive on street tires" realm. As it is the Toyos on this thing are battling for their lives when you hit it hard.
With the CXRacing sneaky under bumper intercooler that's where we are seeing most of our air restriction, only rated at 600hp and we can absolutely verify that!
We'll see if later down the road there's another Phase to this build, for now she's had 2 years of essentially zero problems or breakages. Even at 500whp in this thing she hurts plenty of feelings ;)
Lucore Auto and LucoreRacing oh I believe it does. Yeh I have a Supra so I was running 305/40/18 so I didn’t have much of a traction problem.
Yes the CXRacing core is pretty limited on a JZ since they make power with minimal boost.
@@SupraHenry it was almost perfect for the look/fitment/power level we were looking for so overall still very happy with it.
Definitely being able to tuck a sticky 305 in the rear would certainly help!
So which one is more efficent in terms of power? doing a swap or changing out engine internals so it can handle a turbo?
I wish you would've been more transparent on the price of the car because thats obviously mostly labor fees. I mean a nat build with a crappy r154 wouldn't cost more than 10k and thats pretty baller parts.

Is the 45k for the engine, drive train and body kit, paint , suspension? Or is it just engine, drive train and suspension?. Is the 500hp at the wheels or engine?
The 45k is essentially an "all in" price, machining and engine assembly with all new forged internals, new transmission/driveshaft, fuel system and ECU, suspension, wheels & tires, dyno time, paint touch up on the body kit, etc..
There are a lot of very expensive chunks to building this thing, but at the end of the day what 4 door 500whp sedan can you buy for $45,000 that turns heads and makes smiles like this?
And the 500 horsepower is at the tires on 93 octane fuel.

@jinqui zhang it really depends a lot on the condition of the car you are starting with, and what you are looking for as an end product.
In this case we started with a pretty high quality low mileage car which was a bit more pricey than most people will grab to use as a "build".
35-45k ………. Maybe for the price of the car and all the mods ……… maybe!! You can get more reliable hp for way less ….. but it’s a super clean build!

Currently... not great :) Battling getting it to hook and launch, one of the big things we are working on this coming year. There IS a video on here with some of it at the track last year if you want to see a bit of it getting down.
If all you were shooting for was 4 500whp. Gte rods or first gen rods ge rods and pistons and arp head bolts would of done it.
We could have certainly done it the easier cheaper way that's for sure. In our world of Hot Rods and racecars though we tend to over build things so we can run it well below it's potential.

That was certainly an option, and honestly if you look at almost every other turbo 2J IS300 out here that's what is most common. Buy an Aristo off of Ebay or a supplier and toss it in with a JDM wiring harness.
In our case we were wanting to see what the GE was really capable of with upgraded internals and otherwise all stock parts. This way we also know the build quality and condition of every piece and part in the build. Nothing is more annoying than getting a project done then firing it up putting a few miles on it only to discover the "gently used 50000km JMD motor" has some sort of damage or issue...then tearing the car back apart.
The GE has the exact same block and crank as the GTE. All you need to do is upgrade to forged rods and LC forged pistons to handle turbo. Which you would probably do in a GTE swapped motor anyways. The main difference is the heads, the GE and GTE have different heads so it will limit options on intake/exhaust manifold options when you use the GE head. Although the GE head flows more air in stock form.

One of the great things about the IS300 platform is you can make it anything from a VIP sedan to a drift missle or drag racing car.

By the way 35-45k is not the price for the build. Based on the comments that price includes car, engine, turbo, labor.. even paint correction and wheel repair lol.

You are correct, the GE is an NA factory built motor. We took that motor out, had it machined and out new turbo ready parts in it. Bolt on a new turbo header, and a T4 turbo, pipe some air and oil, and bang we have a GE-T(urbo)

Thank you, always fun to show this thing off! It's running thr factory ECU control the body functions (a/c, radio, powered/heated seats, etc) and an AEM V2 from Dezod Motorsports handling the engine controls

No you heard that right, and that's in good ole American Greenbacks. There is a LOT that goes into a build like this, in parts alone you've easily got more than $10,000.
Not to mention even trying to find a non destroyed factory stick shift IS300 for $3,500-$4,500. Maybe up coming video needs to be a cost break down to illustrate just exactly what's in this thing so people can better understand what all it really takes.

@@chriswf Oh completely agree those stock transmissions aren't built for it and won't take it, neither for that matter would the stock 2JZ GE setup. Which is why it's got a built motor and R154 transmission ;) If you watch the other video on our channel of it you'll see more details about it
35k better be included with labor. I'm Toyota tech built it for under 10k did my owne machine work and all head work including shimless buckets conversation valve grind port polish and everything under the sun
Yes that price is "all in" including machine work, forged rotating assembly, head work, and everything else. The motor is definitely over built for what we are asking from it, with power left on the table should the owner ever want it.

For 500hp you didn't really need to upgrade the NA bottom end at all. OEM NA rods/pistons can handle 700hp quite fine reliably.
Do you have anything you can site to show that? Not sure we've ever seen anyone come near 700hp on stock GE bottom end components reliably, especially not on pump gas.

There's far more done to this car than just the engine. Engine, turbo setup, wheels tires, suspension, electronics... we're talking TOTAL PACKAGE as it sits.

Including the price of the car, the engine, fuel system, ECU, etc. No crack was smoked in the making of this car, or this video.
It was deff smoked there’s on with the same shit done in Jacksonville fl done at 17k including the cost of the car 😂 seen this guy at import face off in Ohio when we were traveling to shows and seen it. It’s super clean and nice won’t knock that but 45k is 2 of them fully built
@@moza1956 there's literally no way mathematically that this car or one like it could be built by 17k. In parts alone it's probably close to that. Any details on the car you saw elsewhere?

@@LucoreAuto I can’t say exactly he just said it was 17k built and bought and was selling for 16 with all paperwork and a really reputable shop here. I’m military so I love a lot and travels lot but this shop has build wild cars. Drove thru Ohio and seen this at its own booth right beside the car show they had going on you were on the fence line right before ppl walked into the car show part at ifo I wouldn’t forget it haha
