Not even for $10 million per guaranteed will anyone join. Why? Because as soon as they sign the contract, the government always finds a way to yank back enlistment bonuses and indebt the soldier to servitude. Of which, another reason why there's no recruits: the country nor the government represents the citizens of the country.
As a fourth and final generation US veteran, I would never let my kids enlist. Don’t want them wasted defending a country in steep decline and basically not worth defending anymore.
@@gavinoreilly1501 Good question. The decline includes; mostly open southern border (a country is defined by borders), the constitution and legal system being abused for political gain, institutional destruction of law and order, first amendment for select groups only and having a corrupt “leader” who barely knows where he is at any point. So no borders, vacated constitution, rampant crime in cities, basic rights ignored and corrupt leaders add up to a country in decline.
So then allowing America to be invaded/having our global interests be violated is worth not joining the military? Sure, there are some problems with America and the need to be improved upon but that doesn’t mean that this country isn’t worth defending anymore. Corruption in the United States is not nearly as rampant as many other countries (Mexico just elected a Female president after 37 other candidates were assassinated). All in all, these are 1st world problems. It is your duty to see through politicians lies (everyone of them lies), and decide for yourself who will run the country.
Recruitment shortages in today’s military do not surprise me what’s so ever! I can’t for the life of me figure out why anyone would serve in today’s military, especially the army! I know most only serve now for the VA benefits, and most of them spend their days trying to figure out how to cheat the system and get 100% disability. A totally different military than what I served in. Yes, we had dirt-bags. But if you had enough negative counseling, you could sometimes get rid of them. In 2003, while on a convoy from Ar Ramadi heading to BIAP, my vehicle was hit by an IED. I watched the explosion come out of the ground and dust and shrapnel and rocks came towards my 5 ton. Something shattered the glass in front of me. My gunner and I both took the energy wave from the explosion. My ears started ringing, then all went silent, and I felt dazed, confused, and sick at the same time. Over the next few weeks after, my gunner lost his ability to maintain his balance and was eventually sent out of the country because his situation became a hazard to himself. As for me, I continued to lead Soldiers during that deployment. But after the blast, I have dealt with memory loss, migraine headaches, blurry vision, mood swings, and loss of many great relationships over many, many years. Recently I decided to get evaluated for the TBI by the VA. They approved it and gave me service connection for it. I did some research and saw where the military has approved service members and veterans for the Purple Heart for this type of injury. I felt I did not deserve this medal. But I continued to do my research. Eventually I felt I may deserve the PH, so I put together my packet, with several documents talking about the IED blast, my medical evaluation from the VA, other evidence, and mailed it to Ft. Knox, Kentucky. I was denied. I honestly felt ashamed that I applied for it. But I also felt ashamed since the army that I supported 110% for over 20 years denied me the PH! Some dirtbag desk jockey REMF that had never deployed to a hostile area, or ever came close to dying in defense of this great country denied my request. In the end, I realized that the military, especially the army, does not give a crap about veterans. Especially veterans that deployed to support OIF/OEF, Desert Shield/Storm, Somalia, Panama, Grenada, Vietnam, and Korea. The VA does, but not the US army. And as stated before, I can’t understand why anyone would join the military in today’s world! My advice to anyone thinking about it would be to check out other options. There are much better options, especially with the blended retirement crap and the wokeness that plagues today's military!. Rangers… Lead the Way! And the US army sucks ass!!!
After those liberal military ads about Emma and her two moms I would not recommend joining at all, whatever happened to don’t ask don’t tell? This isn’t a college dorm room or a political party it’s the military people risk their lives at least let us apolitical folks one institution that’s not politicized to death. My brother joined the navy half the graduation ceremony was in Spanish because most of the recruits are Filipino now nothing wrong with that but maybe make the military appealing to actual citizens if you want more recruits. Here’s how you get more recruits heavily tax states where no recruits are coming out from get recruits from poor states and rich states get you tax revenue it’s a win win.
I can make 20 $ per hour at McDonalds. . . if they can give billions to other countries. . . why not give a pay raise to the military. . . an old veteran
I do want to help the national guard’s domestic infrastructure, but I feel like I might be replaced by a contractor and shipped overseas as an infantry officer. I’m no coward, but we have all seen the signal’s officer in Generation Kill.
Table the impending Military Draft 🤔, instead ATTRACT THE CHILDREN (every School Year by Middle School): It is now time for Grade School "Junior Reserve Training Corps" (JRTC as prerequisite, even in schools that offer JROTC-Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps). JRTC should be similar to JROTC (simply educational, not a recruitment), yet tailored for the General Grade School population (more than JROTC targets Magnet schools and Preparatory academies/schools). It'll give the next generation a headstart at a patriotic uniform approach to life inclusive of military basics and order. (It leaves a "Greater Good" impact on lives more than life with no exposure to Military Order and the threat of unwanted Drafts.)
Why not increase pay and stop treating service members like garbage?

My only advice to any young people is to not join. Don’t go die for a government that hates you!
Explain how the government hates on people.

The people are the government. Your logic is flawed. We don’t live in a dictatorship. You are legally allowed to disobey any order you find immoral.

The US is worth defending. Not the Government. Defend your country not the government. That’s how it’s always been.

There's a pretty good chance "Emma" got pregnant so she would not have to go to NTC...LOL! No way she deployed to OIF/OEF!
