Unfortunately, We’ve always been in pointless wars… However, that’s not why recruitment went down. Truth is the youth of today is not succumbing to the lies that the previous generations did that America is a just and the greatest country in the world. A lot of kids grew up during the great recession, saw their parents lose their homes, struggle financially, lack health care and fail to get decent employment/paycheck even with a college degree, and saw how government screwed them in general, and also plain out lied about Iraq. If given the option most would leave the US for greener pastures, and I personally heard that from a lot of youth. The reason kids are not fighting for this country is because the trust is gone.

"To protect the nation" he says. Sounds good, but it doesn't play out that way most of the time these days. Going off to protect oil asset investments of a small group of American and Western individuals overseas isn't exactly protecting America. More along the lines of protecting the wealthy and their investments.
That isn't the Army's fault, but rather, lawmakers fault. The potential recruits are aware of this reality and frankly are right not to want to put their lives on the line for a tiny group of wealthy men and women that has nothing to do with protecting America.
When lawmakers tell wealthy investors they themselves must protect their own risky foreign investments because our military won't be used to protect their personal risky behavior, then the US Armed Forces will have far better recruitment success.

Now when you look at the demografics in the American society you see a lot of addicts and young people that smoke all kinds of drugs or unhealthy things, it is not surprising that as morality drops so does quality and eventually quantity.
