Great explanation of how the knob works. Only thing I’d recommend is showing how to adjust the 3 pt to be able to get the knob to the top position and then recommending that you run the skid plate with it locked in top position. If it’s hanging down at all and you back up in some brush you just made a feed ramp to put sticks right up in the undercarriage and fan.
Should lock up in Top Position and not lower at all. You may have to adjust the linkage at the left rear tire. In my case I could not get mine into the TOP position until I placed a jack under the plate and put pressure on it which then allowed me to lock in the TOP position so it will not drop when lowering a rear implement. The plate was that tight of a fit.
great video and it really explains it perfectly. The one thing that I was interested in was how to you see that stepped part because it seems to let down the mower deck too far. thanks
Hello, I'm glad it helped. It has to let it down far enough that the mower will ride along the ground at various levels depending on the ground's surface so it does need long travel. Let me know if there is anything else I can help with.
@@RossOnTheLand thanks for the reply, when I turn it to 4.0 it seems to go all the way to the bottom. How can i see the adjustment ratchet like you showed. Take tire off and get down and look at what angle. from the rear or left or right side. thanks

@@RossOnTheLand thanks ross, I need to take it off and service it, I had a shop doing it and it was not up to my standards. I saw you video on how to get it off out the front will give it a try.
@@bhall7997 I second this! I to have the B2601 with the mid-mount mower deck, and it has the same height adjustment knob you show in this instructional video. Thanks for showing the knobs mechanics.
Great explanation. I don’t have one of those tractors. But most of my garden tractors have that height adjustment knob. The shield guard underneath, is that a factory piece. Would the dealer put it on normally if it is ? And if you are backing up in the woods or muddy area, does the rear of the guard lift high enough to miss the dirt ? Had my Case 446, with 48” snow thrower, out yesterday to clean up a 20-25 cm wet heavy April snow storm. That’s what I did on my land yesterday. ! Hopefully no more. But. Never know. Can’t wait for Plow days and tractor runs. Have a good one.
Hey Noel, the under armour is an aftermarket order from a company called BXPanded. And yes you can raise it up high enough to never have it catch when going backwards. I usually keep it at Top, and this locks the arms from moving and safe. I'm finally glad our snow is gone, and temperatures are rising! We have some local events here as well and it'll be nice to see them this year as well! Thank you for watching and commenting.
Thanks! I'm very happy with its performance! Thanks. How's the weather up there now? It's been raining non-stop here and we're supposed to rain for 3 more days. Everything is soooo wet, I can't run my tractor.
@@RossOnTheLand we still have lots of snow but the temperature has finally changed the snow just starting to melt and the sun has been shine bright up to 41F today
Thanks. Just installed mower deck to mow and played with deck knob. Now I know how to adjust properly. Have you had any problems with the skid plate snagging on any when backing up?
Excellent! Glad it helped. No I have never had issues snagging stuff when backing up. I always keep the adjustment knob at "TOP" or near the top, so it moves a bit with normal daily use. I don't have a Mid Mount Mower. So I only use it for the under armour :)
Hi, I have the expanded metal plate under my BX25d tractor and use my front mounted snow blower without taking the plate off, it has cut out for mid PTO drive shaft connection.
With the deck on you don't need the skid plate as the mower deck is there to protect the under side of the tractor. Mower installation/removal for me takes maybe 5 minutes, overall 10 minutes due to having to drop the loader bucket, put the pallet forks on, go get the mower off the pallet and bring it around to the carport to install it, then remove whatever 3 point implement/attachment I have on at the time, then remove the skid plate and install the mower deck...the rear lift arms are the hardest part of the whole thing to get lined up and locked in, after that its very quick and easy.
Hello, I do not believe so, but really the point of the armor is to protect the underside of the tractor, and the belly mower would be doing just that. So in my case I do not have a belly mower because I use a separate zero turn mower, I do like having the protection in the summer, and in the winter I don't usually go through the brush and branches while focusing on snow clearing the driveway and trails.
@@RossOnTheLand I have to laugh only because I bought the mid mount mower deck back in Dec when I bought the BX23S, but it still hasn't come in yet. So I had planned on using the raise and lower dial, but maybe they'll come when the snow flys. 😂
I'm sorry but you were correct because I thought you said 30 C but when I rewatched it and turned on the subtitles you did say 13 C which converts to 55.4 F. I still couldn't get my brackets to drop when I wanted to remount my skid plate but was able to put it on while in the up position. I have a rear blade on my BX 1880 and does it have to be in the raised position when you turn the knob to 2 in order to drop it.
Ah cool I learned something today, I figured it was something like that but you explained it very well. Good job 👍 Looks like you're in summer mode.🏝🌴👍🍻
Hello, If you have the BX the height of the Mid Mower Deck is raised and lowered using the same mechanism as the rear 3 point arms. All the knob does is stop the MMM from moving full range when the 3point arms are lowered full range. Because there is only one control lever to raise and lower both... So raise the rear 3 point arms all the way up, and then rotate the knob to the desired number, and lower the 3 point arms and the MM will stop at that point.
I quickly mentioned that but maybe I should have elaborated. I usually keep the under armour at Top. But James from Killing it Country leaves his arms to have some motion so things don't seize. So I'm going to run with a bit of motion and keep stuff lubed up.
It should be locked in the highest position yes. Otherwise it'll hang down and potentially catch on stuff you run over. I keep my skid plate on pretty much all year as I don't use my mid mount mower very often right now. If you follow the lubrication guides you won't have any problems with stuff seizing up. Use a good tacky grease or light oil on all the components and it'll work just fine.
Ya it's not a great design for sure. All I can say is make sure the rear 3pt arms are all the way up, then crawl under and verify the detents aren't binding. Let me know if there is anything I can help with.
Hello! The mower deck and 3point hitch are tied to the same action. The way to stop it is to use the numbered turning knob on the deck floor and put it to TOP. This will hold the MMM up and not let it lower when using the rear 3 point hitch. I have another video on the ammo box toolbox back in my older catalog if vids.
I seem to be having trouble with my BX2380..... we have just purchased it recently, and even when I put the 3 point all the way up, my knob will not spin in either direction. Maybe I am missing something, however I feel like I am doing it how you've explained! Any suggestions? Thanks!
Hello Brendan, if it has not been used in a long time the detents on the backside shaft (under the deck) may be seized. Put the rear 3pt arms all the way up, and get under the tractor and look at the knob's shaft. The shaft runs on a stepped bar (controlling the mid mount mower height) Make sure it's free and not sitting on the shaft. You should then be able to spray some PB Blaster or lubricant on it. Then go up and use channel locks on the plastic knob (protected by a rag or something) and slowly work it loose. I routinely have to wear gloves as the spring to clamp is very stiff. It will rotate in either direction. Let me know if you have any trouble.
Just took delivery of my BX23S and installed my under armor. Issue is I cannot get the knob to go to “TOP” with the under armor in place. Remove the under armor and it’ll go to “TOP” no problem. I thoroughly understand that the “top” position “tab” on the cam is not clearing the part it parks on. Is there an adjustment to rectify this?
Hey Terry, my suggestion is to remove the under armour, put the Knob at Top, turn on the tractor and pull up the 3pt control lever. Then crawl under and verify that it's working as intended. If it is, then replace the armour. When I pull up the 3pt control lever I know the armour pulls snuggly against the bottom of the deck. Let me know if this works, or if you need more help.
Long story short, I turned the “mower link” adjustment 1.25 turns CW and it works like a charm now. I just guessed on the amount of turns, may have turned it more than it needed. In the book, this adjustment was found in mower section, subsection 5. Thanks for the closeups of the mechanism. It helped me to eyeball what was happening under there 😉👍🏼
Mine does the same thing, I crawl down next to the tractor so I can reach under it and slightly press up on the skid plate as I raise the 3 point and it'll then allow me to select TOP on the adjustment knob. The skid plate is a tight fit as its supposed to be to keep it from rattling around, so you'll have to give the skid plate a bit of an assist from under the tractor as you raise the lift arms.
Two of the only few things I dislike on a BX and I own two. I prefer the Bro-Tek plates as you can leave the rear plate on with the MMM, yes a stick got past my MMM and destroyed my HST fan. I HATE not having position control 3PH like on everything else I own including my JD 1025r. Even with all that, I still prefer them; beats me why. FYI Paul and Kathy Short have some really nice improvements for several models of Kubota at Specialty Repair. I have kids, so the tail light and hazard light guards have paid for themselves.
Hello, yes I like the Brotech guard as well. I have to take it off for winter snowblowing so that's a pain. I have watched the Shorts for many years and love all their products. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Hello, it's run from the same hydraulic system, and moving the control lever will move the PTO attachment up and down onto the detent that was set. The knob only controls how far down an attachment will drop, and always has full upward motion available.
Ross...I'm stuck...2013 BX2670....I followed the instructions...3 pt all the way up. The knob position is in the highest setting 4. Cannot get it to rotate...can you help. I have raised and lowered the 3 pt....raised and lowered deck...nothing...any help would be appreciated
Hello Mike, and welcome. With the rear 3pt arms all the way up, (like all the way) Does the Knob wiggle at all? It may have seized. My suggestion is to crawl underneath and spray with liquid wrench or WD40 and see if you can get it to wiggle. And see if the tab of the arms are in contact with the detents on the knob. That's your best chance of seeing if there is still interference. Let me know if that works.
@@RossOnTheLand after a while and much musing .. I thought that there could be tension on the 3 pt ...so I manually pulled the deck up and placed props under the edge of the deck....much to my surprise ...the maneuver works...was able to start the disconnect for the mower...but much to my chagrin the disconnect required more than available videos...in the end...got it off...now it's time for celebration..woo hoo here comes 99!
Hello, my suggestion is to turn on the tractor and run the tractor at about 2.5k rpms, then use the control lever to lift the rear 3pt arms all the way up. This should remove any restrictions on the height adjustment knob. If it is still not moving, turn the tractor off and crawl under the tractor and verify that the bottom side of the height adjustment knob is not in contact with any of the detents. Hopefully that helps.
It's best to crawl under and inspect the detents and see how the tab is hitting. Make sure your rear 3pt arms are absolutely fully up all the way first. Let me know how it goes.
Hello, if you are sure you have lifted your rear 3 point arms to their highest position, do it again, then try using a pair of gloves to get more grip on the adjustment knob, or maybe a pair of channel lock pliers but be gentle not to wreck the plastic knob. If the underside of your deck has some corrosion or dirt build up it may need some lube or persuasion.
I just bought a used BX2380. No idea what knob locks the mower, what knob hydraulic lifts the mower, but I do see the knob that is supposed to turn but doesn't. This video shows the mechanics of the lock (I guess.) Maybe I can push on it with a screw driver and see which knob above moves. Just kidding. Can somebody point out these things in a quick video. Look, if millennials ever inherit a tractor, they'll need all this basic info too. Help us out. The manual is full of locks and hydraulic lifts. Is it safe to just start yanking knobs until one does what you want? Seriously, just a quick video with out the trouble shooting. How to work it, if it's functioning as it's supposed too. Then, I'll figure out if it's broke or not.
Hello, just make sure the rear 3pt is lifted up all the way, then you should be able to rotate the control Knob. Let me know if you need any more help.

@@RossOnTheLand B2601 with MMM has the knob. I believe it ships with the deck. Trust me I have it on my B2601 it was a PITA to figure out at first. 😅
Thanks B!
@@bhall7997 I second this! I to have the B2601 with the mid-mount mower deck, and it has the same height adjustment knob you show in this instructional video. Thanks for showing the knobs mechanics.
Good explanation. Nice to see how it actually works.
Thanks. I have been seeing a big uptick in the number of questions and conflicting information this knob has caused. Glad to help.
1k in a day 👍👍 excellent video Ross, Knob Head 🤣🤣 great thumbnail really caught me
Great job👍 I need to make a skid plate one day. I had to grind my knob so it would go into the top position. Then I found the adjustment rod😂👍🚜💨🍳
Oh ya! Can't wait to see your build vid of that fab. It's odd that such a simple Knob design causes much confusion.
I’ve never touched my knob.
It's very important to be familiar with your knob, spend time getting to know it, even if it's later in life.
Hi, I have the expanded metal plate under my BX25d tractor and use my front mounted snow blower without taking the plate off, it has cut out for mid PTO drive shaft connection.
Hello, mine is the BXpanded Under Armor and doesn't have that cutout. I know the Bro Tek Skid plate does. It would be handy to have that cutout.
Really cool idea. Regular installation is time consuming and you can't put deck on with armor attached.
Thanks for watching and commenting Mike. let me know if there is anything else you have any questions.
I agree. The lift arms are the bane of my existence :) good job. Have a great weekend.
With the body armor I'm guessing cannot use a belly mower. Is there a skid plate that will work with both a belly mower and the front mount blower?
Hello, I do not believe so, but really the point of the armor is to protect the underside of the tractor, and the belly mower would be doing just that. So in my case I do not have a belly mower because I use a separate zero turn mower, I do like having the protection in the summer, and in the winter I don't usually go through the brush and branches while focusing on snow clearing the driveway and trails.
Thanks for the tip
You are welcome! It's an incredibly simple design, but causes much discussion on how it functions.
I've not used that on mine yet, great instruction on how it works.
Thank you Tekker. Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
I only use mine to hold the Under Armour, but it's good practice to move it every so often so it doesn't seize from lack of use.
@@RossOnTheLand I have to laugh only because I bought the mid mount mower deck back in Dec when I bought the BX23S, but it still hasn't come in yet. So I had planned on using the raise and lower dial, but maybe they'll come when the snow flys. 😂
@@tekker8308 well of course that's when it'll arrive 😭
Great video! It is always nice to really understand the mechanics to troubleshoot! 👍👍
Thank you! I agree. Helps people understand and remove some of the unknowns. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Oh excellent :) 👍
Yes you should put the rear blade up all the way to relieve the pressure on the knob's detents. It'll make turning the knob easier.
Priceless…
Glad you found value in the video :). Have a great day.
Ah cool I learned something today, I figured it was something like that but you explained it very well. Good job 👍 Looks like you're in summer mode.🏝🌴👍🍻

@@RossOnTheLand where's the community post?
It should just be on my UA-cam channel but instead of a video, it's a few pictures.
I have a silly newbie question… Assuming this knob is for the mid mower deck only and has no effect on the back three-point hitch?
Hello, If you have the BX the height of the Mid Mower Deck is raised and lowered using the same mechanism as the rear 3 point arms. All the knob does is stop the MMM from moving full range when the 3point arms are lowered full range. Because there is only one control lever to raise and lower both... So raise the rear 3 point arms all the way up, and then rotate the knob to the desired number, and lower the 3 point arms and the MM will stop at that point.
Do you not pin the underarmor in the raised position all summer long?

Sometimes even when I run my deck all the way up that knob gets stuck pain in the rear to unstick it.
Ya it's not a great design for sure. All I can say is make sure the rear 3pt arms are all the way up, then crawl under and verify the detents aren't binding. Let me know if there is anything I can help with.
@@RossOnTheLand ok ty

You are welcome, thanks for watching and commenting.
When I lower my deck mower my 3 point hitch lowers too, how do I stop that?
Also show us your toolbox. Handy!
I almost went into caveman mode and grabbed the big boy pliers then I had a moment of clarity and found this video! Thank you

@@RossOnTheLand ill give that a whirl tomorrow, thanks a lot! I'll let you know
Yes please do

It helped me to eyeball what was happening under there 😉👍🏼
@@tbryson2 excellent Terry! Have a great day.
@@wildbill23c the simple adjustment I made eliminates the need to do that. But thanks for the feedback
30 Celsius is more like 86 F and not 55 F like you had on the screen. Appreciate the video.
Oh! Wow. Thanks for catching that. I guess I mistyped the numbers. Thanks for watching,
Two of the only few things I dislike on a BX and I own two.

Ok great, but how do you raise the PTO attachment??
@@mikeclarke4573 glad you got it off, so now have a look to see how your MMM adjustment knob is interfering with the 3pt arm tab. Happy day.

I still can't turn my knob, no matter what position the deck is in. What am I missing?
Hello, my suggestion is to turn on the tractor and run the tractor at about 2.5k rpms, then use the control lever to lift the rear 3pt arms all the way up. This should remove any restrictions on the height adjustment knob. If it is still not moving, turn the tractor off and crawl under the tractor and verify that the bottom side of the height adjustment knob is not in contact with any of the detents. Hopefully that helps.
I’ve tried every which way and the nob still won’t turn.
It's best to crawl under and inspect the detents and see how the tab is hitting. Make sure your rear 3pt arms are absolutely fully up all the way first. Let me know how it goes.
Mine still won’t turn
