- Just showing a homemade 12v Generator I built from a Weed Eater and a 12v automotive blower fan motor, it can charge batteries, power most 12v automotive accessories used in your cigarette lighter. I built the unit about 7 years ago it was an easy and fun built and the cost was nothing.

So you have a very good understanding of alternators and power that despite my trying to learn i cant figure allot out.
Ive seen your homemade generator and its goes very well with what ive been trying to do. Ive been trying to rack my brain around how to run multiple alternators but instead of a gas powered engine i was trying to find a way to eother hook up a solar panel to a 12v permanent magnet motor to spin the multiple alternators at once. Hoping to generate more power from the nominal power source of the 12v solar or even a battery that i can use to turn multiple alternators and power a shed im trying to do wood working in.
After watching this video, I made my own, I added a voltage regulator and inverter with a very quiet muffler silencer. It's super compact for camping. Thanks for the idea.👍
But is it quiet enough? I've just got a broke shaft strimmer and was looking into making one of these mini generators from it but 25cc engines are notoriously annoying
@@kristianperryadams with a good muffler and a box , it's slightly quieter than a trimmer.
People, if you can't find an electronics hobby/supply store, order a high current rectifier online, or pull one from an old alternator output and check if its still good.
Or just use an alternator to generate the power.

Are you wearing plaid by chance? Maybe red and green suspenders? Love your generator, but kept expecting you to get set on fire or electrocuted. Reminded me of Red Green Show's invention clips. (That is a compliment by the way)
I had one of those Weedeaters, found it on the side of the road in somebodies trash. Got it running, worked great for about 4 hours then died. Ended up back in the trash.

Output voltage is DC,how do you control voltage when you charge a battery?
I think he turns the "idle speed screw" of the engine. A car battery should be charged at fourteen volts, but I think you could go higher voltage.
That's a good question. The voltage would have to be set by the screw as per the comment above, but in case anything in the engine changes, too high of a voltage will damage the battery and even be hazardous because of hydrogen emission, and too low of a voltage will cause damage by sulfation over time. There would best be a voltage regulator or charge controller after setting the speed higher than in this video.
How many amps can you get out I this little gen charging a 12v battery?
In America you're lucky, everyone there seems to own gas powered tools and equipment. in England the only thing you can find in a bin or dumped is electric mowers and electric weedeaters, which are good for nothing once dead.

I love your videos for the ease of absorption of info and thorough explanations of design and operation any ideas on taking gen head from 800 watt clone/h.f. portable genset and either belt or turbine configurations as stand alone design and the issue I have is motor input shaft has that bearing needed and input stub needed for belt or any type of power transference as well as armatures position at that end now the challenge is no machine fab tools welder ect.i need the macguiver dildo to jackhammer lock pickin tool building wizard that I know you are to help me figure out a simple effective way to salvage my alcohol fuel murdered generators e85 and me smoked 4 less than 50 hrs between all and I'm trying to get some use and scavenge the heads reconfigure input to belt or compound gear set to turbine? and really I respect and am humbly grateful for your shared efforts and opinions and please any and all neg and positive input or methods of this and how could I take two matching heads head to head pully in the center and separate/combine their out puts?polarity switch one to compensate rotation reversal? this in design eliminates need for bearings with just a keyed shaft and pully at the their positions can it be done? what are the variables and methods of safely testing and operating these ive been hit by 480 220 and 110 the 110 grabs on to you the others blew me off so I really don't want to wire it wrong or combine that circuit if its not able to do and I trust your knowledge of electrical design and fab skills and sadly its a mountain man type vanishing art style or method of living you are graced to have the ability to do and its a sad bad loss of creative effort and beautiful minds achievements never to be seen cause the materials/components of which these efforts and achievements where and are made are outlawed condemned and unsaved without the past there isn't a future and you are one of the few who seem to know and create in that modality

I'm not sure. But it looks like the diode is backwards.
What makes you think the diodes are backwards?
Just the one I can see. The silvery line should be on the other end of the diode.
If it was backwards then this wouldn't work, right? Also I did not see a circuit diagram so I am not 100% on exactly how they implemented this. What type of circuit do they use to convert the motor to a generator?
A blocking diode is used when charging batteries. It stops the flow of power only one way. I think what he had done is to put the diode on the negative wire.
I would need to know what circuit their are using and see a diagram of the circuit and know what color wires he was using for what. Again if it is backwards it wouldn't work at all.
