Thanks for the great footage, I grew up in Colorado and spent most of the summers up there. My parents loved Twin Lakes and my brother and l hiked, fished and camped the entire area. When I was growing up it was a gravel over Independence Pass to Aspen. Lots of history and natural beauty, one of my favorite areas on earth. Your videos make me smile.
Exhaust Brake. Great things. I had a GMC 3500 HD Dually, pulled a 43 ft 5th wheel trailer. Went up and down Monarch pass. The exhaust brake was awesome. Loved it. Now have a smaller trailer and smaller gas truck with no exhaust brake. Wish I still had it. Just got home from Colorado. Went to Silverton not pulling trailer. Coming back down wished I still had the Diesel truck with exhaust brake. Certainly spoiled me.
Beautiful! Love the hyperdrive! Reminds me of all the scary, yet somehow thrilling, drives I experienced while living in Colorado! Sweaty palms and all! 😬😲😁❤
Going to Leadville...beautiful little town. Some really nice antique shops there for artifacts. A resident there told us the growing season for gardens was two weeks! We spent the night in a beautiful little Victorian cabin/house in town. The old iron bed broke down about midnight, the foot of the bed hit the floor with the loudest crash you could imagine! The innkeeper came in, lights on, found that a bolt in the frame had been put in without a nut and it finally worked loose! Had to sleep the rest of the night on an inclined bed...not comfortable sliding down all night long. The other room(s) were booked so no room change.
I was glad to hear that you two were going to wait out the snow storm. Adam, I can't wait to see your reaction to a snow storm. I remember your reaction last year the first time you saw deep snow. Safe travels.
That time warp looked like our trip after leaving St' Louis up to the Alaska highway 8 yrs ago for friends we have since 1983 for their fathers passing we've kept in touch since 1983 when my father past at age 33 when he was in the Air Force then. We stayed for 2 weeks. Sad at first then we all went fishing at our fathers favorite fishing spot on Eagle river. Stay safe out there you 2 happy trails.
i love my exhaust brake on my Duramax they do work great with or without a trailer. Abby looked a little cool at independence pass LOL i could tell the wind was really blowing. Thanks for sharing that is one area i have never been to in colorado. Stay Safe. Stay Healthy!
Continental Divide..good movie with John Belushi.. "on the day that John Wayne died ..found myself on the continental divide..tell me where do i go from here..think i'll drive into Leadville and have a few beers" Jimmy Buffet, another good vid guys thanks!
Devils grato is an awesome place on the west side of the pass to jump off the low cliffs into the river it's the pull off with rail ties around the parking area.
A Jake brake keeps the exhaust valves closed. Your truck has a valve down stream of the turbo on the exhaust that closes it off. The name is derived from the manufacturer, Jacobs, and was patented 1962-1965 by Clessie Cummins. The same Cummins that manufactured your engine.
Such a stunning drive! Did you wander around Breckinridge to the troll? Loving your trip through Colorado. Im seeing places I hadn’t realize existed and I’m making a list!I’m so glad we found your exploration channel! Y’all are awesome. ❤️❤️ We wish you safe travels and lots of fun on your adventures!
Very cool choice of soundtrack for the Hyperdrive portion of the video. Other interesting thing about that footage is how the image stabilization on the roof of the truck shifts the hood of the truck in the frame going around curves.
My wife will often get out of my way by standing in front of where I are trying to get to. She will ask if she can help me and I will give her the flashlight to hold and she will walk off with it. Women are from Venus and men are from New Jersey. I am a lucky man to have her.
Adam how does the diesel do in the high altitude I have a duramax and I can see a difference from summer to winter driving. Living in New Jersey we have all four seasons. ...Paul🇺🇸👍
I grew up in Utah, the idea of getting nervous driving on a mountain pass didn't occur to me until I took my wife (from Georgia) for a drive in the mountains for the first time. It made me laugh but she didn't think it was funny.
One more comment after you mentioned the tractor trailer getting jammed up. It's actually illegal for truck drivers to take that route and guarantee he paid at least $2,000 for taking it. 😁 And the "exhaust brake" or "jake brake" is actually called a compression brake or engine brake. 😁 lol
The fines are now posted in the signs. There are several of them warning vehicles over length from entering. If I would have called it an engine brake, I’d have people telling me it’s called an exhaust brake.
If you come too utah give your self a couple days to get used to altitude. Salt lake city is at 4000 ft. Take you to park cit 7000 ft. Go up mountain rd 10000 ft. You wont want to go back to flate land. You need to go up pikes peak
Have done it several times and the last time was August 11th when some moron decided to ignore the length requirements and if you've done it you know there are 2 VERY narrow sections up top with blind corners..... Suffice it to say traffic was stopped for a good 45 minutes while people attempted to back up to make room in 2 places....There was a police car on the Aspen side so I am betting he pulled them over once they made it to that point because the backup was about 2 miles long doing over towards twinlakes from the aspen side ! it's like a $1500 fine which would certainly detour most!
I'm posting this comment only a couple of minutes in to ask a question. :-) Does Abby have invisalign in? It kind of looks like it but I can't tell. :-)
You could have made it a big loop by going on over to Aspen then continue north to Glenwood Spring. Then take I-70 east to Minturn. Go south to Leadville. Then back to Buena vista your starting Point. I took my grandparents on many scenic rides over the years. There is Turquois Lake there west of Leadville. I would always stop by there when up in the area just to see the level of the water. You didn't mention on your way by going west about Twin Lakes. It is a pumped-storage hydroelectric system. When power is cheap and abundant, like night time they pump water uphill to another lake. Then when demand is high they allow water to come back down to the lower lakes thru the turbines and generators.

Thank you for sharing your adventures with us!
Hope you guys make it thru the hurricane unscathed.
The only bad thing about going to the mountains is leaving, I would love to move out there somewhere.
I’m adding this place to my bucket list gorgeous! Thank you for sharing 👍🏻😄
Thank you so much for the time lapse of your drive. Perfect!
Glad you liked it. Hate to not use up that footage
It is good that you two are providing such great content. I like the scenery and the droll commentary.
That’s beautiful scenic drive guys👏👏👏👏👏👍🇬🇧🥰

It really is truly beautiful, ..... & it is also so delightful to see You both enjoy it so much together :)

Glad to see a comment from a long time viewer 😁👍🏻
I've seen snow in July on that very same patch.
Have a picture of me standing in it.

Awesome video. Storm is coming close to Pensacola. Hope all is well. Dave

The one lane is down right before Aspen. I can only imagine how Abby felt on the way down towards Twin Lakes.
We have a rv spot on our 10’acres in the mountains near fairplay if you guys want a neat spot with 14er views!
Love the two stroke mode!
Hope you strapped the shaper down before you left...Sally decided to visit the Pensacola area.
what is the condition of your shop?
Hey Adam my wife does the same thing to me your mate Chris Australia

Not sure if you guys are home yet, but I hope you're safe from Hurricane Sally.
Iv ridden my motorcycle over that. You should have dropped down the other side into Aspen. It's a beautiful drive, and Aspen is pretty cool to see.
Did it last year
wow and cool
Adam how does the diesel do in the high altitude I have a duramax and I can see a difference from summer to winter driving. Living in New Jersey we have all four seasons. ...Paul🇺🇸👍
Whatever power loss it has has not effected its performance. Just went over Monarch pass twice pulling the trailer. No problems, only Go.
My ears were popping just thinking about being that high!
Have you two ever been too Telluride or Ourary in Colorado?
Yep. I have many videos to share
@@AbomAdventures I figured with the videos I've seen so far!
Come out to utah . I get your heart pumpin. Some narly roads
I grew up in Utah, the idea of getting nervous driving on a mountain pass didn't occur to me until I took my wife (from Georgia) for a drive in the mountains for the first time. It made me laugh but she didn't think it was funny.
Way to tag it Adam!
Man, an oak tree would sure look out of place up there!
Nice!!
Doesn't your cruise control do the same as a jake brake?
It’s downshifts and uses the exhaust brake when going downhill, depending on the grade.

True, but those people have likely never driven a big truck in their life. They're UA-cam experts. Lol.
THINK I,LL STAY OUT OF COLORDA. TOO HIGH FOR ME. I,M ENJOYING YOUR TRIP THO. HANG ON. I AM.

Jacob's Vehicle Systems (Jake brake) and Jacobs Chuck same company, or at least they were at one time

Snow is so pretty on the trees, hope you get to enjoy a covering!
Please don't pan the camera over the cliff. No guard rails, I'm scared!
I'm posting this comment only a couple of minutes in to ask a question. :-) Does Abby have invisalign in? It kind of looks like it but I can't tell. :-)
lol Ready to get back to the shop Adam?
The shop will be patiently waiting on me when I return 👍🏻
@@AbomAdventures 👌👌 Loved the time lapse up and down BTW with the ambient music. Was perfect.
UA-cam compression doesn't like time warp.
Don’t be pushing the buttons while driving the pass Adam!
Bababa
You need to download a altimeter app for your phone then you will know how high you are!
(9/15) I sure hope nothing bad happens to your shop back home.... 😨

Could have, but didn’t. We did that drive last year.
I didn't like the time warp part. To out of focus thus hard to look at.
Then don’t watch it, why I put it at the end
@@AbomAdventures I didn't. But apparently you don't like constructive criticism. Enjoy your trip.
