Like most, I'm not a huge fan of most of the "alternative stuff", but I would say when I wanted something other than beef, I opt for making either turkey and/or salmon burgers!
Just a quick translation - You guys did a really good job of saying in other terms: the plant based patty is complete crap, the black bean is ok and the ground beef is the mac daddy! It is what it is guys 😂
I am not a fan of black bean burgers or impossible burgers. But,,, I really enjoy original garden burgers w/bacon. When I think of burgers what I want, it is a whopper!
Ethan Chlebowski published a really nice black bean smash burger recipe a couple of years ago. Very nice alternative take. Not mushy like a lot of black bean burger patties, and decent sear via the smash burger technique.
Abby you're looking really great recently and have a very nice screen presence. And Adam is the last guy I would have expected such a comparison from 😅
I have to wonder how many people who are avoiding processed foods would a processed impossible burger because it’s plant-based. I can only imagine how much processing is required to make soybeans beans resemble real meat.
Yeah, black bean burgers have been getting better over the years and I get them on occasions when I just want a "burger" without the unwanted extras.. The impossible burgers are going to get better as they refine the recipe and people, like yourselves, give them feedback on how it tastes and feels.
Thanks for doing this comparison. I prefer angus burgers but would certainly order a black bean burger if found out and about. Not thrilled about 'Impossible', just for the sake of it being an oddity and particularly due to your combined palate's opinion ;-)
I can’t eat red meat anymore so I eat the impossible patties. Definitely not the same but satisfies the craving and it’s better than a ham sandwich sometimes.
I remember being accidently servered a black bean burger at a chain restaurant once. I had a bite and realized it was not what I ordered. I told the server to just go ahead and adjust the bill. I had never had one before but it was good and I ate the whole thing.
We tried the black bean burgers once from Costco. The first time we cooked them they tasted great. As the days went on and a week had passed we cooked them again, they were mediocre. Another week went by and I tried one for lunch and it was disgusting. We ended up throwing the rest of the box away and never bothered with them again. But what I don't get is why they all have to say they are imitation meat? if they are a viable product, they should be able to stand on their own without the comparison. Maybe I am just weird in my thinking?
This was not what I expected to be honest. I might consider a black bean pattie now and if for no other reason to use for a Mexican wrap/taco. Have you ever shared how you guys met?
I'm with Adam... I'll eat the impossible if it's served at a vegan friend's BBQ. BUT... if given the choice I will chose real hamburger 100% of the time. I will have to look for the black bean option... cuz I do like a good chili burger. What if you mixed the two??
I love a great All American Burger. Meat does get to my stomach and my choice was the black bean burger as well. The impossible burger has so many oils in it, I was better off with a real burger. If i couldn't eat red meat, the black bean would be just fine for me. Entertaining video.
An interesting comparison. I am not a vegetarian but I do not eat red meat. The impossible does not appeal to me but I would love to try the black bean, however I'm not sure it is available here in UK. I will have to search.
Hey adam, what kind of cheese is that? I know it's American cheese but is it Kraft sliced cheese? I use that Kraft sliced cheese and it doesn't look as good as yours👍🏻🇺🇲
Ok. I’ve never had black bean burger. Seriously willing to try them. Real burger is all I’ve ever had until my wife made impossible burger ( and I’ve had it in a restaurant). SO disgusting with the impossible burger. Again I’m going to try the black bean burger and go from there. Thanks for doing this.
Price is a factor with us just as much as the taste. Might be fun to try the 3 types built the way you normally build a burger so the only change is the patty. It's too much of a change to try a dry burger that is rarely eaten that way. There is no way I'd eat that plant burger if the price per pound came to half of the ground chuck. So if its $3 a pound or less, it might have a chance but no way above that which makes me think $2 a pound might be its value.
I have tried all and will stick with the good old plant based beef burgers made from naturally and organically processed grasses by a cow and not in a factory/lab environment. But I do like your comparison and there are different products out there for everyone to find what they like.
I have tried an impossible...while they taste incredibly like real beef, I look at the ingredients to make it and just say no...Just NO. It has nothing to do with it being "vegan" or "vegetarian", it has 100% to do with the fact that there are way too many chemicals and 'chemistry' going on with them. I get ground from beef (or Bison, Venison, Elk) locally. The Beef and Bison are both locally sourced from farms thanks to our location. The elk comes from Colorado I believe. The best is that our butcher will custom grind if you want (as long as your order exceeds, I think, 5 lbs) We have done parties where we go through 25lb+ of ground beef and they actually did the seasoning and patty making for us (I just supplied the amounts of seasoning per pound I wanted). They can supply burger patty sizes of 1/4lb, 1/3lb, or 1/2lb portions. As for black bean? I just don't care for them. I don't hate them, and I've had them a few times, but I just prefer my beef (bison, venison and elk).
I recall seeing a recent report about just how bad for you those plant-based patties were. It's much healthier to eat a real burger and skip the chemicals.
Meat eater here. Not every brand of impossible is going to be identical. The impossible whopper from burger king is pretty legit. You might say its as good or better than the regular whopper. All these good old boys knee jerk reaction to hating on a plant based burger, what you think you're going to take a bite and next thing you're going to be driving a Prius and wearing a pride flag? Grow up
I dated a vegetarian many years ago. One of our favorite things to do for a dinner date was to go to a place that didn't know us. The waitstaff would come over to take our orders and she would go through the whole thing, asking: "Do you keep all the vegetarian plates and utensils separate and wash them separately?" and so on. Then they would turn to me, and I'd say: "Filet, medium, with a loaded baked potato, and don't forget the bacon bits..." That always made them do a double take! We liked to mess with them! Funny thing is she was also Jewish (but didn't keep Kosher)...
50 years in the meat business, I can't even think of putting FAKE what they call meat, in my mouth. But I would eat a Black bean patty, can't call it a burger, LOL.

I didn't claw my way to the top of the food chain just to eat vegetables
I'm a meat eater, but i have always loved good quality black bean burgers.
Just a quick translation - You guys did a really good job of saying in other terms: the plant based patty is complete crap, the black bean is ok and the ground beef is the mac daddy! It is what it is guys 😂
I tried fake meat once, one bite and the rest went in the trash bin.
Ground beef is derived from plants. Cows eat plants and make meat.... LOL
I am not a fan of black bean burgers or impossible burgers.
But,,, I really enjoy original garden burgers w/bacon. When I think of burgers what I want, it is a whopper!

The animals i eat are vegetarians
Yes me too.
It's not an Abom video at home without the sirens in the background 😂😅
Oh Boy! It’s Gas vs Electric. Just wait when they get engineered meet into production.
Definitely trying the black bean burger ❤
I was dating a vegetarian for a while. She loved my chili made with the Boca burger and sausage. Might be a good second test.
Adam you are a good man that said I could do spicy bean burger in a pinch. Love that Hasty Bake Roughneck
I love the knotty pine in y’all’s kitchen. It reminds me of the house I grew up in… ❤
I agree with you guys. I will try the black bean paddy !!!!
Yeah, black bean burgers have been getting better over the years and I get them on occasions when I just want a "burger" without the unwanted extras.. The impossible burgers are going to get better as they refine the recipe and people, like yourselves, give them feedback on how it tastes and feels.

Love the open-minded comparison.
I can’t eat red meat anymore so I eat the impossible patties. Definitely not the same but satisfies the craving and it’s better than a ham sandwich sometimes.
maybe if you thaw out the impossible before throwing it on the grill, it would be a bit drier on the inside? just thinking
I remember being accidently servered a black bean burger at a chain restaurant once. I had a bite and realized it was not what I ordered. I told the server to just go ahead and adjust the bill. I had never had one before but it was good and I ate the whole thing.

Abby looking good. Looks like Adam has lost some too. Good for you guys! I'll let you guys try before I buy.
This was not what I expected to be honest. I might consider a black bean pattie now and if for no other reason to use for a Mexican wrap/taco. Have you ever shared how you guys met?
The black bean burgers are great for tacos too. Abby’s been using them for that lately. Just chop it up and add your toppings.
I love black bean burgers for breakfast with eggs instead of bacon. Awesome.
The impossible burgers are highly processed and likely unhealthly.
So you eat nothing that is processed? Or do you only get worked up about fakenburgers?
I'm with Adam... I'll eat the impossible if it's served at a vegan friend's BBQ. BUT... if given the choice I will chose real hamburger 100% of the time. I will have to look for the black bean option... cuz I do like a good chili burger. What if you mixed the two??

Beyond burgers are similar to Impossible burgers, you may want to try them, I thought that the Beyond was better than Impossible.
An interesting comparison. I am not a vegetarian but I do not eat red meat. The impossible does not appeal to me but I would love to try the black bean, however I'm not sure it is available here in UK. I will have to search.
I probably misspelled your name too, sorry. But you know it's all good 👍
I dont care for the impossible burger either but I like the beyond burger. The morning star brand is very good also.
Next it will be bug burgers 😂
I did a pork butt on my offset charcoal grill after your last video. turned out beautiful. Been eating pulled pork constantly for 5 days.
I wouldn’t touch the 2 with a ten foot pole. Definitely 100 percent beef for this guy.
Hey adam, what kind of cheese is that? I know it's American cheese but is it Kraft sliced cheese? I use that Kraft sliced cheese and it doesn't look as good as yours👍🏻🇺🇲

I prefer venison
Interesting. its always ground beef for me lol

howdy guys loved the video
Thanks for this burger review, Abby and Adam. I avoid the fake meats due to chemicals and processing but I also like black bean burgers.

If being vegan is so good, why do they always need to make it taste like meat?

Just stay with the regular meat burger,it’s actually better for you , stay away from the plants 👍👍👍👍
Meat has all the nutrients you need and they are bioavailable. You can't say that for plants.
I dated a vegetarian many years ago. One of our favorite things to do for a dinner date was to go to a place that didn't know us. Sorry folks, to each their own but if it doesn't come from a cow it's not a burger and I'm not eating it.
It's all plant based meat technically
Sounds like the upcoming election choice.. beef or processed veggies
FJB
Purple hair vegetarians are my go to for burger advice. Maybe cut back on the carbs guys....
It’s not meat
50 years in the meat business, I can't even think of putting FAKE what they call meat, in my mouth. But I would eat a Black bean patty, can't call it a burger, LOL.
Bill Gates approves. Good enough reason for me to pass.

Use real cheese please, not that plastic stuff. Ruin a good burger
I disagree. I think plastic cheese is part of the burger experience.
We love Craft American Cheese slices and will always use them in our cooking.
