My favourite and one I always go back to - "Comes A Time" - great songwriting, gorgeous songs - consistently brilliant. I cant find anything to enjoy in Neils music today - its output over quality I'm afraid. I cant remember his last decent album it so long ago lol. Cya
Really appreciate the ranking, Pete. Neil Young is one of my favorites artists. The guy has been so diverse throughout his career and never afraid to tackle our social ills. A wealth of great music and lyrics. When I listen to Neil, it gives me hope that we as a species can become better. Perhaps there is hope for tomorrow?
1. On The Beach 2. Zuma 3. Tonight's The Night 4. After The Gold Rush 5. Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere 6. Comes A Time 7. Rust Never Sleeps 8. Sleeps With Angela 9. Prairie Wind 10. Ragged Glory
Neil Young, my favourite artist of all time, does whatever he feels like (like heading for the ditch). You can go along for the ride, hop on and off when and however the mood takes. Seen him live with The Horse twice. Thanks for the ranking, Pete!
He's got an interesting discography. I know it all, but in every decade from the 60s til now he's got albums which are brilliant and albums I do not care for... I obviously love his early classics and renowned stuff like Rust never sleeps, Freedom or Ragged Glory, but I particularly love his so called "ditch trilogy", Time fades away, On the beach and Tonight's the night. Zuma is also great. So many stuff! Love this guy.
i only saw neil live twice once on the rust never sleeps tour (amazing of course) and then got to see one of the handful of the stills-young band live shows before neil pulled the plug on that tour. both in philly at the spectrum.
@@malco49 I saw Neil and crazy horse at the alamodome with social distortion and Sonic youth opening. When young and crazy horse got into that power circle and started playing off of each other and building, and building and building... Man, I get goosebumps just thinking about it.
My favorite Neil Young album without a doubt is Pete’s number one Everyone knows that is nowhere, Down by the river is my number one Neil Young song. I don’t pay attention to today’s controversially and just listen to his music now.
Thank you so much! Great to listen to someone else's take on a truly massive library of fantastic music. I should not be surprised at all that my list would look very different from Pete's. But whatever - what's important is that his music is celebrated. On The Beach is on the shortlist of my favourite albums ever. As is Greendale. Honestly - probably both top 10 albums ever for me. The fact that those albums are separated by almost 30 years is testament to a remarkable career.
Great list man! 44 yr old Huge Neil Young fan from Montreal Canada! Saw him 3 times live and own so many on cd. I'm surprised you didn't put Rust never Sleeps, and On the Beach on your top 11. Those are killer! Love your channel by the way Peace Man!
I live in Colorado USA, and I've seen some of the Greatest Live Concerts imaginable. Easily more then 300. + Live shows, and to this day my 2nd or 3rd greatest Concert I've ever seen was Mr. Neil Young Trans . He absolutely Shredded it with some amazing Rock Guitar. He had no Band on stage but he was absolutely Phenominal. 🎼🎼🎼
I consider myself a fan but I didn't get into his larger body of work until I was into my late 20s. The exception being "Rust Never Sleeps" and "Live Rust". For whatever reason I really liked those albums since their release (I was a teenager). One of my older brothers brought those discs back from college and I've been listening to them ever since. (Good thing Pete can't see my Phillies t-shirt that I'm wearing 😁)
Great channel Pete. Yes we come here to discuss music nothing else. Leave the bs to other channels especially those reaction video ones yuck, who feel unless there is a video to watch can't discuss properly.
Awesome! I’m a huge fan of Neil but haven’t heard all of his albums either. That said, even a top 10 is difficult to do! Thanks for a great show as always Pete!
Indeed! I opted to group all of the albums into 5 "buckets", works for me since to me many of his albums ae approximately equal to my ears & only a handful really stand out above the rest
Today my ten would be…. 1 Zuma - Danger Bird blew me away when I first heard it. 2 On the beach- “I need a crowd of people……” 3 American Stars and Bars 4 Live at the Fillmore East 1970 - Sparkling., come on baby let’s go downtown 5 Everybody knows this is nowhere- Cinnamon Girl is timeless rock. 6 Tonight’s the Night - melancholic and moving with the wonderful Nils Lofgren 7 After the Gold Rush - earthy Southern man 8 Greendale - Double E - unique almost lolling guitars and drums 9 Broken Arrow - Again thundering guitars of Loose Change. 10 - Rust Never Sleeps - Welfare mothers make better lovers Tomorrow of course these will change. Quite like his Americana album and about 60% of Barn!
Great ranking show very entertaining. I would add an overlooked gem in Neil’s catalog. 1994’s Sleeps with Angels give it a listen you won’t be disappointed.
GREAT list. Neil's catalog is so deep and high-quality it's mind-boggling, and there's an album for everyone whether it's Ragged Glory, Harvest Moon, Trans, and everything in between.
This could be easily the top 20-30 albums from Neil’s vast catalogue, however a short and crisp presentation covering most of the essential albums. The others which imo are also essential listen are (few could still be left out ) 1. On the beach 2. Freedom, 3. Harvest Moon, 4. NY Unplugged 5. Mirror Ball, 6. Silver and Gold, 7 Chrome dreams, 8. Hitchhiker,9. Barn, 10. Psychedelic pill/fork in the road.
Hitchhiker is great. I can imagine, if it came out as an official release in 76, when it was recorded, a lot of people would put it in their top 5 Neil albums.
Try out Sleeps With Angels and I think you'd like Psychedelic Pill Pete ( some very long jam tunes)- right up your alley. Also a few newer releases of some 70's albums that were planned for release but held back at the time: Hitchiker, Homegrown. Freedom, Harvest Moon, Silver and Gold, On The Beach are real good too, if you haven't heard them.
I heard Neil play Revolution Blues for the first time with C,S,N,Y in Seattle on the 1974 tour. It's also included on the 1974 box set of that tour. Great haunting song! On The Beach is one of my favorites too.
Nice list, Pete. Always enjoy watching and listening to your casts! I've been a lifelong fan of Neil for many years and I'll submit my top 10 list: 10. Silver and Gold- A cool latter day release; love the folky and sparse feel this one has. 9. Freedom- Simply an awesome comeback from his scattered decade of the eighties. Perfect way towards reinvention! 8. Broken Arrow- Agree with you that this was a good/solid album with the Horse. Love the opening first half of jams! 7. On the Beach- Love the haunting, yet melodic and emotional starkness this "ditch" era album evokes. Classic Neil. 6. Harvest- As much as I don't listen to this all that much anymore, there's no denying the classic status this possesses. 5. Zuma- Again, with Crazy Horse and the first with Pancho on guitar, some awesome rockers and beautiful acoustic cuts. 4. Tonight's the Night- Haunting, drunken, bleary and astonishing, this record is simply stunning. Not for the faint hearted. 3. Everybody Knows This is Nowhere- The first with Crazy Horse and Danny Whitten. 'Nuff Said! 2. Rust Never Sleeps- Perfect Blend of Acoustic music with a ripping electric bend. Again with the Horse, Prime Record! 1. After the Gold Rush- This is the record that turned me on to the power and wonder of Mr. Young. All time best release!
@Bookhouse Boy That's a fair point, however, had those not have been included on the "Forward" release, I think the record would've lacked some of the strength those songs displayed, the title cut, notwithstanding.
Really shocked literally nobody knows about Harvest Moon? That is one of my favorite albums ever even though I am 99% a metal guy. I grew up with that album all over Oregon my parents would play it on the tape deck so maybe I have nostalgia. You can't beat the easy melodies of the title track, try the wistful Hank and Hendrix. War of Man is Neals best anti war anthem secretly.
'Trans' has a totally different meaning now, but that's easily in my top 5. They changed the mix of my favorite song Sample and Hold when it was released on CD! Also had a great version of Cinnamon Girl. Bunch of crazy vocoder voice box and programming along with some almost Hawaiian songs. Love the craziness of trying to make something different. Read the wiki page about the album. Wild stuff.
Good list, my friend. I'm interested to know what you think of "Silver & Gold" one of my all time favorites. (He's got so many, "Rust Never Sleeps", Comes a Time"?) You can tell I'm one of those country/folk/acoustic Neil fans. Thanks for your time and effort. Also, I discovered your work through the latest Tull album.
....... I also like Neil The rocker Pete!.... Thank you for ranking his albums!...... Long time Neil Young fan throw me a bone 🦴.... Ranking Neil Young's live albums!..... My favorite Neil Young is Neil Young live!
Good rankings Pete, I’ll just do my top five…very big Neil fan for many years. 1. Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere 2. After The Gold Rush 3. Harvest 4. Neil Young (self titled debut) 5. Zuma

Interesting top 10. Never seen Long May You Run in anyone's top 10. LOL. But Pete...Rust Never Sleeps!! That is his best album. And Freedom is also outstanding.
Well now you have...To me EASILY the pick of the litter & I own about 60 Young albums. It's a really special record in my opinion, especially when factoring in Stephen Stills' 4 tracks. One of the great albums ever, to me anyway. We all hear things differently....
my top ten of NY; 1. On The Beach 2. Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere 3. Tonights The Night 4. Harvest 5. After The Goldrush 6. Comes A Time 7. Zuma 8. Neil Young 9. American Stars & Bars 10. Harvest Moon
I love Tonight's the Night for exactly the qualities you described. Pete, you grasp the emotonal feel of that record perfectly! Because of the depth in some of the lyrics, it has always been special for me.
1. Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere 2. Rust Never Sleeps 3. Freedom 4. Long May You Run 5. Harvest 6. Trans 7. After The Gold Rush 8. Zuma 9. On The Beach 10. Time Fades Away Someone lent me Psychedelic Pill a while back. I did some chores and popped out to the local shop. That first track was still going when i got back.
Thanks Pete! Nice video! I've been a big Neil Young fan since the mid 70s. And I will always be a big fan! I have most of Neil Young's albums on CD and a few on vinyl. I also have several of his DVDs. And as far as Spotify goes, I have never been to it and probably never will. I would much rather have the CD or vinyl record.
1 On the beach 2 Tonight's the night 3 Zuma 4 After the Gold Rush 5 EKTIN 6 Harvest 7 Freedom 8 Mirror Ball 9 American Stars n Bars 10 Rust never sleeps
Love Neil!! Another underrated one is on the Beach. Give his box sets a chance. Especially the early years like the unreleased springfield and early daze of Crazy Horse. Cant believe he didn’t release alot of that stuff. 70’s Neil is King for me.
Very pleased to hear your opinion of Ragged Glory. My key listened to Neil over the last decade hand down. Also one of the most appropriately named albums ever. Sleeps With Angels is another goodie. Like his folkier stuff more than you. A weak spot for Hawks and Doves - may be too short to be a top album, but love every track.
1. Tonight's the Night 2. On the Beach 2. Rust Never Sleeps 4. Ragged Glory 5. Sleeps with Angels 6. Harvest 7. Zuma 8. Eveybody Knows this is Nowhere 9. American Stars and Bars 10. Mirrorball
One of my favourites. 1) After The Gold Rush 2) Rust Never Sleeps..... Though recorded live they were all new songs, so I'm including it. 3) Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere 4) Ragged Glory 5) Tonight's The Night 6) On The Beach 7) Zuma 8) Havest 9) Harvest Moon 10) Time Fades Away.... Again recorded live but all unreleased prior to this.
rust never sleeps to this day is considered as one more album in his discography and is usually distanced from live records, since as you say, everything is new material, and in fact, for many it is his best album
Love Neil Young, Zuma is my favorite, when I heard Cortez the Killer my mind was blown. Great ranking. Have to revisit some of these. With recent events with Neil Young I hope the comments don’t dwell on political stuff, it’s about his music and his music is a timeless.
@@MK-gv7qr Exactly. The great thing about Neil is he can play acoustic so emotionally, but if the mood takes him, he can play a real mean, gnarly electric version. He is able to switch back and forth between those for many of his songs.
1) Everybody Knows This is Nowhere 2)After The Goldrush 3) Reactor 4) Freedom 5) Rust Never Sleeps 6) Ragged Glory 7) Harvest 8) Tonights The Night 9) Comes A Time 10) Prarie Wind
My TOP 5 1. Joe stole my bike 2. Sensor Ship Sellout 3. Lynyrd said bad things bout me 4. Fight the establishment, the pod casters! 5. Where am I??? oh yeah, Rogan is literally Hitler (In key of B flat minor)
Saw neil on the reactor tour..wemblbley arena..first half was the new album with face mikes..second half really rocked , so loud and heavy..nils on second guitar..ausome.
The great thing about Neil Young is you get a thousand fans and their top ten lists would not be the same because he is so varied. Great Rocker Great Folk Artist Great Country Greater Country Rocker.......
Great episode Pete! And great call on Broken Arrow which on another day would be in my Top 10. Neil has a great catalog and I actually dig his musical detours which speaks for my #1 choice. 1. This Note's for You 2. On the Beach 3. Ragged Glory 4. Tonight's the Night 5. Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere 6. Rust Never Sleeps 7. Harvest 8. Greendale 9. Time Fades Away 10. Sleeps with Angels
@@bizzjoe I think it was matter of filling his obligation to record company, he wasn't happy at the time, he was releasing albums just to complete his contract, probably the worst period of his career.
I saw Neil perform, his Greendale tour 2003, I was vastly impressed. Balleds like, Bandit, spoke to me. He did the tour with Crazy Horse backing him. and for an encore they did some classics;, Hurricane. and Rocking in the Free World. were a few gems. I liked his follow up album after Greenwood, Prairie Wind 2006 has some beautiful numbers on it. , After the Goldrush is my number 1 favorite. followed by Harvest
Nice list, my rank of my top 20 (studio only)... I'm a fan of all eras 1- EveryBody Knows This is Nowhere 2- Ragged Glory 3- Sleeps With Angels 4- On the Beach 5- After the Gold Rush 6- Harvest 7- Zuma 8- Psychedelic Pill 9- First Album 10- Hitchhiker 11- Broken Arrow 12- Freedom 13- Tonight’s The Night 14- HomeGrown 15- Mirror Ball 16- Harvest Moon 17- Le Noise 18- Chrome Dreams II (Chrome Dreams I would knock one off this list when it's released) 19- American Stars n' Bars 20- Trans
Been a long time Neil Young fan & I like the majority of his music & there are definitely some different styles of music he does in his own way. But here's how I would rank them. I'm going 1st to last though. The 1st two a absolutely love & never get tired of. 1. Harvest 2. After the gold rush 3. Everybody knows this is nowhere 4. Rust never sleeps ( Pete did you forget about this album, couldn't believe it didn't make your top 10) 5. On the beach 6. Zuma 7. Neil Young 8. Hitchhiker 9. Harvest moon 10. Tonight's the night
Hitchhiker is unfortunately overlooked because it's an archive release, but it has some of his very best songs like Pocahontas, Powderfinger or Campaigner. Great album.
I most often listen to Harvest but usually the DVD-Audio 5.1 version because the surround mix is so bizarre. The sound is excellent but the instruments are very much directed at certain speakers. I don't know if this is Neil's own unique interpretation of surround sound or if he did it as a joke or even maybe a protest.
1. On the Beach 2. Zuma 3. Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere 4. After the Gold Rush 5. Harvest 6. Sleeps With Angels 7. Harvest Moon 8. Ragged Glory 9. Freedom 10. Silver & Gold I must say Sleeps With Angels is quite underrated (or then I'm biased because that's the first Neil Young album I bought). The highlight there is excellent lengthy guitar-rock song 'Change Your Mind'.
Saw Neil in Vancouver many years ago where he opened with an acoustic set took an intermission then did an electric set. It was an amazing show!. The best part was when Randy Bachman joined him for an encore of Keep on Rocking in the Free World.
@@jimmycampbell78 Yeah, it just struck me funny. If you need to think back to the days of cassettes to remember when you last owned a record, you're probably not that big of a fan...LOL
1. Rust Never Sleeps 2. On the Beach 3. Zuma 4. Everybody Knows This is Nowhere 5. Harvest 6. Tonight's the Night 7. After the Gold Rush 8. Time Fades Away 9. Ragged Glory/Harvest Moon (can't decide!) 10. Sleeps With Angels
What a task. What a catalogue. To my ears Neil has had two golden runs - anything from EKTIN up to Tonight's the Night , and then everything from Freedom to Mirrorball. The only 21st century album I really like is Living with War. My top ten ( I think) 1. After the Goldrush 2. On the Beach 3. Sleeps with Angels 4. Harvest 5. Everybody knows... 6. Ragged Glory 7. Mirror Ball 8. Rust Never Sleeps 9. Freedom 10. Living with War.
Pete, would you ever consider a ranking the albums video for Robert Wyatt's solo career? He doesn't have too many albums, maybe 7 or 8 total, and everything he has recorded has been diverse and worthwhile.
1 - After the Gold Rush 2 - Rust never sleep 3 - Harvest 4 Everybody knows this is nowhere 5 - Tonight s the Night 6 - Ragged Glory 7 - On the Beach 8 - Zuma 9 - Unglugged 10 - Harvest Moon
"Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere" is easily Neil Young's best album, but I would cheat and just go with "Decade", I know it's a compilation, but the choices are all tip top. As for albums left off your list, I do like "Freedom" quite a bit and HaHa what no "Trans"? Well I guess I'll forgive you that one. Doing Neil's live albums might be a real fun segment.

His best for me
If you will rank his music currently on Spotify, that would be the shortest SOT show ever!! :))

Yeah, and Joni Mitchell too.No matter I have most of their cds
Good on Neil and Joni for taking a stand against conspiracy theorist meathead Rogan
Most people who are fans of Neil and Joni have physical media anyway.
Listening to “Greendale” over and over again while driving for a very long distance gave me the greatest enjoyment once🎶

Great album front to back!
Blue Oyster Cult does a song called ' Harvest Moon ' Neil Young's album is an obvious attempt to do a big seller.
Harvest Moon is definitely in my Top 10..
He did a few songs from it on the Unplugged CD also.. that is fantastic.
“On The Beach”, “ Zuma”, “After the Gold Rush” and “Tonight’s The Night” would be my favorite.
On the beach is his best imo

Interesting top 10. Never seen Long May You Run in anyone's top 10. LOL. But Pete...Rust Never Sleeps!! That is his best album. And Freedom is also outstanding.
Well now you have...To me EASILY the pick of the litter & I own about 60 Young albums. It's a really special record in my opinion, especially when factoring in Stephen Stills' 4 tracks. One of the great albums ever, to me anyway. We all hear things differently....
The Freedom album from 1989 is my top pick. Lots of really memorable songs on it.

5. After The Goldrush
6. Comes A Time
7. Zuma
8. Neil Young
9. American Stars & Bars
10. Harvest Moon
I love Neil . I've seen him 4 times but not at all in the past 39 years. Guess we're both pretty old now . LOL
Sat down on a garbage bag, in the rain, under a tree, and saw these guys at ACL Fest some years ago. One of my favorite moments.
I love Tonight's the Night for exactly the qualities you described. Pete, you grasp the emotonal feel of that record perfectly! Because of the depth in some of the lyrics, it has always been special for me.

2. Rust Never Sleeps
3. Freedom
4. Long May You Run
5. Harvest
6. Trans
7. After The Gold Rush
8. Zuma
9. On The Beach

Someone lent me Psychedelic Pill a while back. I did some chores and popped out to the local shop. That first track was still going when i got back.
I'd put on the beach higher
@@jimgroff6880 And Zuma much higher….Danger Bird is amazing !!!
@@richardbooth6063 yes
Times fades away is a top 5 to me. Just thought about it again
1. On the beach
2. Sleeps with angels
3. Zuma
4 Prairie Wind
5. Everybody knows
6. Harvest
7. TNT
8. Ragged Glory
9. After the Goldrush
10. Time fades away
1 On the beach
2 Tonight's the night
3 Zuma
4 After the Gold Rush
5 EKTIN
6 Harvest
7 Freedom
8 Mirror Ball
9 American Stars n Bars
10 Rust never sleeps
I've never been a fan of his singing, but I found this informative so thank you
He can't sing. Its obvious on ' Tonight's the Night ' though I like that album.
Hi when you ranking the studio albums of Leprous…?.thanks
'On The Beach' is an amazing album
As a Neil superfan my favorite 5 listens (right now)
Sleeps with Angels
On the Beach
Broken Arrow
Le Noise
Psychedelic Pill
I just went to check some of these out on Spotify but couldn't find any so I listened to some Joe Rogan podcasts instead....
Love Neil!! Another underrated one is on the Beach. Give his box sets a chance. Especially the early years like the unreleased springfield and early daze of Crazy Horse. Cant believe he didn’t release alot of that stuff. 70’s Neil is King for me.
1975 Neil might be the best Neil. So much good Neil.
I love from "Sleep With Angels" ( 1994 ) song - " Change your Mind " . Kurt's last words in letter ...sad and glorious .
1. Tonight's the Night
2. On the Beach
2. Rust Never Sleeps
4. Ragged Glory
5. Sleeps with Angels
6. Harvest
7. Zuma
8. Eveybody Knows this is Nowhere
9. American Stars and Bars
10. Mirrorball
One of my favourites.
1) After The Gold Rush
2) Rust Never Sleeps..... Though recorded live they were all new songs, so I'm including it.
3) Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere
4) Ragged Glory
5) Tonight's The Night
6) On The Beach
7) Zuma
8) Havest
9) Harvest Moon
10) Time Fades Away....
Well said.
Cortez is definitely killer.
@@MK-gv7qr My favourite song of Neil's entire catalogue.
@@garyh.238 Mine too. Sometimes I'm in the mood for one of his acoustic versions and other times I like the Zuma version. Both are great.👍
@@MK-gv7qr Exactly.
Politics aside, Young's discography is one I haven't investigated yet so this show is very helpful to begin.
My TOP 5
1. Joe stole my bike
2. Sensor Ship Sellout
3. Lynyrd said bad things bout me
4. Fight the establishment, the pod casters!
5. Where am I??? oh yeah, Rogan is literally Hitler (In key of B flat minor)
Ragged Glory is a great album. I bought it on cassette when it first came out and this was the only time I got to see Neil Young in concert.
Saw neil on the reactor tour..wemblbley arena..first half was the new album with face mikes..second half really rocked , so loud and heavy..nils on second guitar..ausome.
Harvest is #1 on my list of his albums. The opening track, Out on the Weekend, holds a special place for me.
The great thing about Neil Young is you get a thousand fans and their top ten lists would not be the same because he is so varied. Great Rocker Great Folk Artist Great Country Greater Country Rocker.......
Exactly, very versatile artist.
Is Rust Never Sleeps a good one?
Nice episode Pete. Neil has a vast catalogue. Very hard to narrow them down. Great video
NY the rocker, I agree Pete. Your #1 is my favorite studio album too, but "Rust Never Sleeps" ranks higher. I also really like "Le Noise" from 2010.
"I enjoyed listening to you Neil. You will be missed." - Jordan Peterson
I'm not interested in bs or politics, just basic morality.
Thank you Pete. It's a hard to do Neil
Great episode Pete! And great call on Broken Arrow which on another day would be in my Top 10. Neil has a great catalog and I actually dig his musical detours which speaks for my #1 choice.
1. This Note's for You
2. On the Beach
3. Ragged Glory
4. Tonight's the Night
5. Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere
6. Rust Never Sleeps
7. Harvest
8. Greendale
9. Time Fades Away
10. Sleeps with Angels
Thanks for ranking Neil Young. He’s an amazing artist that I love (….and he’s also put out some crap). This is going to be interesting.
His "Trans" album .. what the hell was he thinking?
I'm a fan of all eras
1- EveryBody Knows This is Nowhere
2- Ragged Glory
3- Sleeps With Angels
4- On the Beach
5- After the Gold Rush
6- Harvest
7- Zuma
8- Psychedelic Pill
9- First Album
10- Hitchhiker
11- Broken Arrow
12- Freedom
13- Tonight’s The Night
14- HomeGrown
15- Mirror Ball
16- Harvest Moon
17- Le Noise
18- Chrome Dreams II (Chrome Dreams I would knock one off this list when it's released)
19- American Stars n' Bars
20- Trans
Been a long time Neil Young fan & I like the majority of his music & there are definitely some different styles of music he does in his own way. But here's how I would rank them. I'm going 1st to last though. The 1st two a absolutely love & never get tired of.
1. Harvest
2. After the gold rush
3. Everybody knows this is nowhere
4. Rust never sleeps ( Pete did you forget about this album, couldn't believe it didn't make your top 10)
5. On the beach
6. Zuma
7. Neil Young
8. Hitchhiker
9. Harvest moon
1. On the Beach
2. Zuma
3. Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere
4. After the Gold Rush
5. Harvest
6. Sleeps With Angels
7. Harvest Moon
8. Ragged Glory
9. Freedom
10. Silver & Gold
I must say Sleeps With Angels is quite underrated (or then I'm biased because that's the first Neil Young album I bought). The highlight there is excellent lengthy guitar-rock song 'Change Your Mind'.
I’m primarily a fan of Neil the rocker too, and I love Ragged Glory. My list would include Rust Never Sleeps and Freedom.
Saw Neil in Vancouver many years ago where he opened with an acoustic set took an intermission then did an electric set. It was an amazing show!. The best part was when Randy Bachman joined him for an encore of Keep on Rocking in the Free World.
2 Canadian music icons on the same stage. That would have been a great show to see.
@@garyh.238 Agreed, sounds interesting...
Is Rust Never Sleeps considered a live album?
All live except 2 studio tracks. I also included it on my list though, maybe shouldn't have...
"I thought I had this, I'll have to rectify that...Maybe I had it on cassette at one time? Yeah, I'm not a big Neil Young fan ..." Pete Pardo LOL
I know Pete really dislikes Bob Dylan. Pete did a top 10 songs on Neil Young a while ago so I knew he sort of liked Neil.
@@jimmycampbell78 Yeah, it just struck me funny. If you need to think back to the days of cassettes to remember when you last owned a record, you're probably not that big of a fan...LOL
1. Rust Never Sleeps
2. On the Beach
3. Zuma
4. Everybody Knows This is Nowhere
5. Harvest
6. Tonight's the Night
7. After the Gold Rush
8. Time Fades Away
9. Ragged Glory/Harvest Moon (can't decide!)
10. Sleeps With Angels
What a task. What a catalogue. To my ears Neil has had two golden runs - anything from EKTIN up to Tonight's the Night , and then everything from Freedom to Mirrorball. The only 21st century album I really like is Living with War.
My top ten ( I think)
1. After the Goldrush
2. On the Beach
3. Sleeps with Angels
4. Harvest
5. Everybody knows...
6. Ragged Glory
7. Mirror Ball
8. Rust Never Sleeps
9. Freedom
10. Living with War.
Good list. Freedom to Broken Arrow is my favourite era of Neil.
Very excited to see you put Everybody Knows this is Nowhere on top. Lots of great memories with this one. Cowgirl in the Sand is an incredible song.
1. Rust Never Sleeps
2. Everybody knows this is nowhere
3. After the goldrush
4. Tonight’s the night
5. On the beach
Pete, would you ever consider a ranking the albums video for Robert Wyatt's solo career? He doesn't have too many albums, maybe 7 or 8 total, and everything he has recorded has been diverse and worthwhile.
I like Neil young but I think he should have gone on Rogans show and offered a debate instead of doing what he did
"Well I hope Neil Young will remember, a Rogan fan don't need him around anyhow"
Rogan Josh is a decent curry.
👍🏻
Hey hey, my my. Won't hear my stuff on Spotify.
1 - After the Gold Rush
2 - Rust never sleep
3 - Harvest
4 Everybody knows this is nowhere
5 - Tonight s the Night
6 - Ragged Glory
7 - On the Beach
8 - Zuma
9 - Unglugged
10 - Harvest Moon
"Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere" is easily Neil Young's best album, but I would cheat and just go with "Decade", I know it's a compilation, but the choices are all tip top. As for albums left off your list, I do like "Freedom" quite a bit and HaHa what no "Trans"? Well I guess I'll forgive you that one. Doing Neil's live albums might be a real fun segment.
