Longtime Fuji shooter here. I feel that this is one of the key mistakes that new Fuji shooters make, especially with cameras with the older smaller batteries, and that is to keep the camera on all the time. Fuji cameras start incredibly fast (compared to say a Sony or Hasselblad), which means that if you flick the camera on when you see something, by the time you have the camera up to your face, the camera is pretty much ready to shoot. I turn the camera on and off all the time and i find that it makes the battery last a lot longer than if I just leave it on all the time (even with the screen off).
Yup, do exactly the same thing. When walking near possible subjects, the camera is on, but soon as I walk past them, it's off until the next opportunity comes along.
Just shows it's more talent than gear. As a long time subscriber, would love to see you resurrect the M50 and see the progression in your photos.... Great work as always bud
I have a couple of X-E1s - one I have owned from new. Basically a lighter build of the X-Pro1, with the same sensor but has an electronic viewfinder. I still use them for street in bright conditions, often with fast, manual focus primes. If you can work around the slow autofocus they are very capable cameras!
I'll be honest, if you want to take good photos grab something like a 6D and a 40mm 2.8 and you've got a super sharp 43mm true normal, and a super low light beast. Use the center focus point and recompose.. it'll deliver results. I use fancier cameras these days but that cheap combo could do 90% of what great photos I take today could do.
I loved my X-Pro1` and eventually had a couple of X-Pro 2 bodies but I kept the 1 as well. All my Fuji stuff was traded 14 months ago when I got the Leica Q3 - which is brilliant - and all I need now.
Man, thanks for this video. I love the X-Pro series so much. I started my street photography journey in 2016 with the X-Pro 2, then went all in on Leica cameras, eventually reaching an M10-R and three Summicron lenses (28mm, 35mm, and 50mm) set up. Earlier this year, I decided to sell everything and get an X-Pro 3 with two primes instead. No regrets (so far ^_^) !
I had one of these when it first came out. Overall a good digital camera, but I had to tape over both the focus mode lever and the exposure compensation dial to prevent accidental selections!
I love my xpro-1 ! She’s in immaculate condition and renders colour aswell as black and white just lovely…even though I have the x100vi I still love getting out with the xpro-1 👌🏼
I used to set the X-Pro 1 to manual focus then use the AE-L/AF-L button for auto focus. This allowed me to zone focus when I couldn't rely on on auto focus. It was also helpful with getting the shot when there were lots of moving parts. It's like using my M10 only with the option of auto focus. :P
The x100v lasts me weeks of shooting street in London, I turn it off and if I want to take a shot click it on and by the time the camera is up to my eye its ready to take a photo, the time that its ready to shoot is under a second.
The era around that camera is so good. X-Pro1, X-E1, M240, GM1, etc. They all had these great sensors, colors, handling, size, etc. Whenever I want to try new kit just for fun, I head straight to 2012 through 2014. X-Pro2 and X-E3 are still like peak Fuji street kit, imo. All the good, none of the missteps from subsequent models. Nice shots as always ✌
So slow though. I owned three of those four camera's you list (not the GM1). Glad I got out of it and figured a modern camera with a Leica M lens can achieve the same amount of fun for me.
@kilianhrkm I always hear that, but I don't get it. I recently shot street in NYC with a Fuji x-e1 using a manual lens. I missed zero shots due to camera speed. My daily driver is the M240. Again, around NYC. Very frantic environment. Zero shots missed to camera "slowness." It's literally instantaneous?
I got its smaller brother the X-E2 and love it. Switched from a Sony A6000 and wanted something where the SOOCs were usable and could edit raws if I wanted to
Would be fun to see your take on the X-Pro 3. It’s one of the most unique cameras from Fuji in a long time.. (Because the screen is hidden away by default.)
had the XPRO1 since 2013 cannot let go of it, yes the screen is rubbish and the viewfinder not much better, but the images when paired with the 18mmF2 and the 35 mm F1.4 which all came in the same bundle are the best I ever take
Such caper music starting at 1:30. Fun! 3:47 is awesome. 4:59 - aw darn. Switch back to the Porsche after driving the Honda Accord? Interesting that I have my focus on continuous. Now I wonder if I'm doing it wrong. Fun to contemplate the X-Pro1. I've been thinking about that *and* the X-T3, even though I've got an X-T5. What is wrong with me?
Fuji's old devices were amazing. Dont like the quality of the new cameras like x-t5 build. For anyone interested, get an X-E1, cheaper and the same. Use it with a Zeiss 32 mm 1.8 touit, amazing image style.
I use a Canon M6 Mk1 with a pancake lens, but to be honest my iPhone 15 is very good. Photos are all about composition not the kit you use. We are spoilt for good cameras and a lot of poor photography…compliments to you though, some great shots.
I've owned several Fuji cameras, the X-Pro 2 paired with an 18mm being one of my favourite setups. I wanted to know if I'd be happy with that FOV before heading in the direction of a Q2. Needless to say, I was, and now own (it was gifted to me) a Leica Q2. I still miss the X-Pro2 and the 35mm F1.4 partnership - my all time favourite pairing.
Nice to see fujifilm getting some airtime, being a fujifilm user for over 15 years (current line up X10, Xt2, Xt5 for street) please explain to me Mike how does one manage to switch the focus lever from continuous to manual to single etc, when you photograph with your right hand with vlogging camera in the other hand (left i presume) or do you have a loose 3rd hand we dont know about and its got a mind of its own lol ;) love your videos.
1:15 the EVF is pretty bad, the screen is actually among the best ones Fuji produced, 1.23M dots compared to 460k on the X-E1, and then 1.04 M on the X-E2...
I am sorry, out of topic. hello guys, all the commenters here. I came from another side of the earth. I just wonder and very interest on, why you guys (especially people in this video, I dunno where is it, europe perhaps?) always bring cup of coffee on your activity, in your hand. you walk with coffee in your hand in front of your chest/belly. Is coffee that really necessary in your activities? why you bring it in your hand? why not put it on the tumblr or something, and then keep it up in your backpack. because, that coffee can spoil everywhere if you bring with hand, right? or, bring coffee in your hand is some kind of gesture cultural or unwritten rule for your morning activities. thanks for answering my very not important question. lol.
It was old guy on UA-cam (who gives terrible advice) that created this term. And because he speaks in a confident tone, a bunch of naive young photographers believed him. This is your wake up call: Nobody knows what's right for you except you. Stop being a follower.
@@benjamindover4337 As it happens, I do chimp and it affects me negatively. That's why I always get more spiritual fulfilment shooting film. I'm forced to let go in many ways.
It’s not bad at all but it depends on what you’re shooting. Sometimes you can miss the next shot if you’re too worried about checking the last shot you took. I usually just check one shot when I get to a new location/change lots of settings just to make sure exposure is fine and then never check photos until I’m “done” shooting.
I had it and sold it before prizes went crazy. I bought and sold it for £250 ($500 AUD). I didn’t find the colours that magical etc. I preferred the follow up sensor (xtrans II I think). But ultimately I didn’t get on with the stylised looks baked into Fuji cameras.

@@stanislavrico probably more than good enough for every day type photography, image quality is pretty good (16mp is more than enough for me), autofocus is decent enough, screen is also ok and viewfinder isnt great, lenses are very affordable used, the 20mm f1.7 is around 100$ and 14mm f2.5 is also at a similar price. its the camera i mainly use for taking photos of friends and family and taking it to situations that are probably not that camera friendly where I wouldnt want to take my a7iii.

100% no reason to have it on all the time just sucking juice for nothing!

Very nice, thank you. I'm hoping Fuji will eventually produce a pocketable camera the size of a GR III.
The closest was the X70.

Definitely a faster camera. More than 50% more expensive than the XPRO1.
