We should have solar power today! No internet for awhile though, until we get the house wiring sorted. The squirrels have done a number on the cabin electrical. Work and time. Anyways, we are doing good and hope you are too.
I spent 20 years as a home inspector. I can't tell you the number of times I saw one deal fall through and then the Buyers would find another place they loved even better! Congrats on your new off grid cabin.
I really dig that cabin! I love the tree tunnel driveway. The best tip I can offer after years of being blessed with family cottages, hunt camps, sugar shacks, etc. is to run electrical lines in conduit tubing. Tis really the only way to critter proof them. Keep the conduit size small (3/4"), so mice can't get in. If you need more lines than a single tube will hold, run a second tube parallel to the first. The smaller size is much easier to work with, and a simple hand bender is inexpensive and won't break a sweat on 3/4". It's also great insurance against electrical fires. The cost isn't terrible, as far as retrofits and remodeling goes at all, and you gain the benefit of knowing the run of every circuit of the house, and it's condition. That comes in handy when setting up self sustained power options, and troubleshooting any gremlins. It looks like a fantastic canvas to build your ideal home/base camp/bush bunker!
Thank you, Sean! I was thinking that could be an option, but was unsure of how to make it work. After sitting here and thinking about it some more after reading your comment, I can start to see it laid out. Definitely a lot better than ripping out all the old wiring. Not to mention, running new wires is just going to re-present the critters with new chewables. Thanks again! Will update when we get it together. Its pretty basic. There were only 4 circuits in the board.
Great advice regarding the Conduit. The initial cost will be be more than offset by the long-term benefits. Something I learned when building / fabricating .. 'Do it right the first time .. take the extra trouble .. then you don't have to make U-turns later to fix stuff'.
Your ADK cabin/land is beautiful. Congrats. My wife and I are planning on purchasing a cabin and some decent acreage out in the Adirondacks soon, as well. We live in NJ but I've been going to the ADK since I was a child and in my opinion it's a greatest land on earth. Love your channel man, keep up the awesome work. Plus you are a Sigur Ros fan which is pretty rad. Cheers.
Great Stuff 👍. Yep .. sometimes things happen for a reason. All of the Best for you both going forward .. am looking forward to the updates regarding .. Take care .. Tommy
Congratulations Brother and Sister, wow what a dream come true, I've alway dream of having a place like yours, I'm so happy for you two. Enjoy your adventure and best of luck and keep us posted because I for one really enjoy the Endurance Room and the contents you put out. Beautiful Castle.
I built my own home, it's salt box design. Built several spec. houses also salt box. I think it's a great design. Need to add on--- all you have to do is put a shed pitch off of the high side. Real easy.
Wow, looks like a magic forest in a Winter Wonderland! It seems to be the Jackpot for you! Congrats and all the Best to you and your girl from 🇦🇹 Stay safe!!🤠👍
Hi folks, nice video. I hate to burst your bubble but, the Adirondack is not the largest Wilderness area in the U.S. Alaska is. The adirondack Park is the largest State Park in the U.S. I am originally from Upstate, N.Y. have lived in Upper Jay and Lake Placid and then moved to Alaska. I have been here 25 years and am now moving back to Upstate to be close to family. Thanks for sharing
Thanks. We were referring to the lower 48, but could have articulated it a bit better. Things are getting interesting down here, as I am sure you are aware. Safe travels
Very cool. Clear the trees around the cabin that pose a threat of falling on cabin, or forest fire. Keep a cache of back up gear in separate structure in case the main structure catches fire, ya must be able to survive out there with out the cabin and/or vehicle. Good for you on this grand project.
thank you! I have started on some of the trees. Squirrels have been using them for access into the cabin and have done a number on the wiring. Will clear the larger stuff in spring.
Does the APA consider this a resistance or a seasonal cabin? The towns in the APA usualy have no say in buildings in the APA as the APA is the governing power.
If you guys have cell service where you are, I know of an option that you can use pulling cell data for internet. I live in a somewhat remote part of the Rocky Mountains and I do my job from home using this set up. It’s not cheap (roughly $2k to set up) but once it’s done, you have reliable wifi through cell service. Once you have time I’d be more than happy to chat and tell you what I did to set it up.
It's quite disturbing that southern Americans think that if you're from the north you're from New York City when I try to explain to them that New York City is an island connected by tunnels and bridges they don't want to accept that to them everybody from the north is from New York and New York to them is just New York City , when I tell them that New York is one of the most beautiful states on the Eastern seaboard they don't get it, the majority of Southern Americans don't leave their zip code, New York state is one of the most beautiful states on the Eastern seaboard!
@@bkbroiler8069 don't worry they never leave their zip code, and how would they get by without biscuits and cold tea, Upstate is safe from them anyways🌲🌲🌲
You will learn to hate the APA! With all your surivalviedos you seem to be totally unprepared to live a mile from a paved road. No plowtruck,no snowmobile, no ATV, no generator, ( you need two of all). I've lived a half mile from civilaton my whole life. Then bought a place in the northern AP. Wow that was a wakeup call. It's not easy, and always a challenge. I think in a year you will think beautiful butnot easy.
I think this is a toy for you guys. You're probably from NYC and trying to live off grid as a part-time fun thing to do and not because you need to for financial reasons. Real poor people can't afford to do this. It takes money to do an off grid cabin right. Then when you get bored of it you'll sell it for a ridiculous amount of money.

Residence. It was built and used for that purpose by the original owner for 20 years.

Look into Star Link, they may be testing in your area eventually.
Dial up, well 10 megs, and pray for minimal impedance . Enjoy be a while till it becomes routine.
